Oh smeg. I just did it. Bye bye 009.

I guess we will find out at the 21 hour mark (in 30 minutes) if there is any substance to that superstition

I think it was Tomas Enge that spun the Aston, getting a flat front left in the process. No real harm done then, but later they where where resting in pits for a while, changing an alternator belt or something.

--- Edit ---
Enge said that he was coming to close to car in front and lost rear downforce into that corner.

Quote from Linsen :Hm, I can't seem to connect to the channel

Easy... Go to SCORE, click the link that says Chat.
A JAVA Program will open where you can enter your preffered chat name. Click connect and you should be in the channel. IRC never was easier.

Quote from deggis :http://www.tvunetworks.com

You need to install the TVU Player, then through it you can watch a channel called "53060 Wheels" that is actually Speed TV. It doesn't show full coverage though, there's F1, Nascar and other crap between...

for Bob: everything on that is not probably 100% legal, it follows DMCA guidelines like Youtube and basicly leaves the choice for users... well remove the link if you think it's too illegal

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
This will be my only chance to see LeMans live this year since it looks like Eurosport doesn't have the rights to it (or didn't bother to broadcast) this year.
IE Crashes when I view "Leagues & Events"

Every time I enter the Leagues & Events section in this forum, IE crashes. In Opera, it works fine, and the rest of the LFS Forum is ok in IE, works like a charm. Even the sub forums to Leagues & Events work fine if I click the direct link. But not the main Leagues & Events section.

Can someone please at least explain why? WinXP Home, Media Center Edition, IE 6.0.2900

Also, a further dig into the sporting code on FIA tells us that each ASN can submit their own "Sporting Code" which in general means that as long as the ASN's sporting code doesn't go against the VERY fuzzu description in the FIA document, it's ok.
And so, if for example WTCC would like to have the "don't close the door" rule, they may very well have so. If V8 Supercar like to have the "go as wide as you like on turn exit" rule, they are free to have it.

Basically, we are back ot what I said before. Read up on the rules on each league, each series and each server, and drive by them

Quote from J.B. :X-Ter: care to show us some examples of such rules in real racing? If there were rules there would be no discussion. But I've yet to see any.

Regarding car being overtaken, chapter IV, section 2:
Quote :
c) curves, as well as the approach and exit zones thereof, may be
negotiated by the drivers in any way they wish, within the limits
of the track. Overtaking, according to the circumstances, may be
done either on the right or on the left.
However, manoeuvres liable to hinder other drivers such as
premature changes of direction, more than one change of
direction, deliberate crowding of cars towards the inside or the
outside of the curve or any other abnormal change of direction,
are strictly prohibited and shall be penalised, according to the
importance and repetition of the offences, by penalties ranging
from a fi ne to the exclusion from the race. The repetition of
dangerous driving, even involuntary, may result in the exclusion
from the race.
d) any obstructive manoeuvre carried out by one or several
drivers, either having common interests or not, is prohibited.
The persistent driving abreast of several vehicles, as well as fanshaped
arrangement, is authorised only if there is not another car
trying to overtake. Otherwise the blue fl ag will be waved.

As always, there is room for interpretation, but I guess it's not allowed to hinder a clean overtake in any other way than the usual "one change of lanes".

Doesn't all this come down to what rules are specified in the league, the series, on the server etc? You can argue this all you like but if a league has it specified in the rules that the inside car (if alongside in the corner) has the right to the corner exit as well, then you play by those rules and like or stay the heck out.

Take a look at DTM. Wonderfull example of high speed, on the edge racing. I have yet to see a penalty given out to anyone on the indside who also claims the right to the corner exit. Even if there's a concrete wall on the outside. In addition to this, there is also a rule that say that if you have opened the door enough for someone to stick their nose on the inside, you can not close that door, cause the inevitable crash that follows will be your fault.

That rule is in effect in F1, DTM, WTCC, well... just about any racing on the planet. And let's face it... If more people followed that rule, almost half the incidents would be eliminated. And if people also follwed the turn exit rule, about 80% of all incidents would be gone. And if people also tried to use the "gentlemens/womens rule of conduct" on track, almost 95% of all crashes would be gone. The last five % would be caused by wreckers who don't belong on a track anyway...

Basically, what I am saying is:
Take a good look at the rules stated before you enter a league, a series or even a pick up race server. Be gentle and use your head. Simple really

This is a great InSim app and I like it a lot. Thankyou very much

Good post and I agree. In the long run, a sim lives trough the third party content. I am not at all against the idea that any third party content pass trough the hands of the developers before it's released though. In fact, I think that would be the best solution ever.
I am not that eager to see cars though, cause if we get proper GTR interiors and a few more types of race cars (look alike V8-Supercar, Grand-Am Prototype, LeMAns Prototype, Stock Car (Nascar) etc.) We would have more than enough to drive. The real bother is the places to drive them at.

Tracks would probably not need to be updated with changes/updates in the physics, which make them ideal as third party addons to this sim. Still... If our beloved developers say no, I will respect that and still drive this sim until my wheel brakes down.

This series features:
1) Two race formats.
2) Reversed grid for second race.
3) Weight penalties.
4) SCORE Rank™ *
5) Substitute Drivers allowed **

* SCORE Rank is the by now well tested ranking system that keep track of your ranking, based on your finishing position in each race. The lower the rank, the better you have finished. The ranking works regardless of sim used and regardless of number of participants or number of races.

** If you can not participate in one of the races you can assign a substitute driver to keep the car competitive in the points standings.

Well... I suppose a band of really boored people could do just that. Team up on a server and start banning people. But don't you think the chance is pretty good they would end up on the wreckers barricade pretty soon? I mean, that sort of behaviour would soon be pretty obvious. I'm not worried, and I like the 8 vote ban.

If you happen to be banned from a server with that ammount of clowns in it, just pick another server. Or, if you really truly believe that you where wrongly banned, talk to the server admin and hame him/her unban you. It's better to have it this way, rather than no possible way at all to get rid of disturbing people

A1 GP - The only formula car racing I find interesting.
ALMS - USA's most "European" championship.
DTM - Probably the worlds best Touringcar series.
FIA-GT - The second best Sportscar series in Europe.
GrandAm - Best racing on American soil.
LMES - The best European Sportscar series.
STCC - One of Europes best Touringcar series.
SuperGT - Beautiful cars and really good racing.
SCCA - Both the GT and Touringcar series are world class.
V8 Supercar - Complete and utter madness in good looking cars.
WTCC - Getting better each year.

I would like real world tracks some time down the road, but only cause I am so in love with the classics. The tracks that have become legends in motorsport. Bathurst, LeMans, Monza, Nürburgring (+Nordschleife?), Spa Francorchamps, Zolder, Interlagos... Well you get the idea. I'm not sure having those tracks would make the racing better. But the feeling... That's an entirely other matter

Couldn't care less about cars though cause there are only a few types/classes missing as it is, and those we have can be painted into looking like almost anything (by a good painter).

I've just skimmed this thread, and I really don't have much to say but... My only chance to watch American Racing is via piranha and I download any roadcourse racing I can get my hands on. Smile

As I understand it, NASCAR owns the Grand-Am sportcar series? Well I don't know if you guys realize this, but that is quality racing right there. Good, competitive cars with good drivers on good tracks. I just wish they wouldn't split up the GT and the DP's as they do on some events.
So... Even if NASCAR are going down the drain with the oval racing, they at least does something right Smile

I also watch SCCA, both GT and TouringCar, and the Touringcar series is what WTCC should be like. Lot's of different makes of cars on the grid at all times, all being more or less competitive. The GT class could use a little more spunk but all in all it's about the same as FIA-GT3 which is a fairly good idea I think.

The sad part this year is that ALMS has been running IMO too many street races. It's not fitting for a four class grid to run on tight, twisty and bumpy tracks where the LMP's can't show off their stuff. And the GT1 class could use a few more cars on the grid.

The really sad part in American racing is the stock cars. These days, it's all about those big super speedways. People watching that doesn't pay attention to the racing ,cause they're all just sitting there waiting for "the big one" and that is not how it should be.
