While that sounds like an easy solution not everyone can meet the requirements for entering a league appart from shift work, which means I'm never online at any particular time consistently it cahnges from week to week, I also currently have no option other than 28.8kb/s and if I'm lucky 33.6kb/s modem speed.. I've read on all league sites I've seen so far the minimum requirement is 128kb/s ISDN or ADSL which is understandable as for me racing with more than about 10 others online is lag city even if it is an aussie server.. I still have alot of fun and very good close racing with 10 or less racers often on LFS but I have to rearrange my sleeping patterns to get on at a time when there is sufficient activity online to find a race Having said that I do from time to time bump into the guys from the AAL scene and have a blast racing with them just this sunday was able to do some laps with a few guys running the GTi arround SO2R I think on an MPR server too IIRC I came second in a hoe down I think they were calling it LOL
Yes I think you should try typing it in italian and ask someone to translate I'm having a very hard time trying to understand what it is you have a problem with
My guess is that you have a hard time controlling the cars with a joypad as the steering is very sensitive this is true.. For example at BLGP in the XF GTi I can set the Maximuim Steering Lock to 9deg and still race with great sucess using an Xbox controller so the actual steering lock needed to get around most tracks is normally much less than the max available... and using a joypad where you are controlling the steering with your thumb and only small movements it can be hard to drive with precision
I overcome this problem by reducing the Maximum Steering Lock to the minimum needed to race around the track comfortably and with enough to turn the car around if involved in a spin so normally set it about 24deg in the Steering section of the car setup options. (might need to be higher for some rally circiuts and tracks like SO tracks)
Also I set the Wheel Turn or Rotation to 180deg and the Steering Comensation to 1.0 in the Options - Controller section and set Analog Steer Smooth to about 0.20 in the Options - Msic section
Hopefully I got the terms right I'm at work and can't fire up LFS to check hope this is what your after
I've always wanted the ability to display the virtual digital speedo in a more visible location.. even though its not all that realistic - for me I find it important in the game because of the lack of other feedback that you would get from a real car..
[Edit] Heh I've even thought this probably can be done with an insim app and overlay like Kegety's ghost car app.. but I don't have the time or skills for such a project [/Edit]
Yeah drifting and the GTT are popular downunder but if you want to do some grip racing in the GTi its a bit harder to find a server in Aus but thats demo heh
Yeh I do that too.. as well as the empty ones then there normally about 9-17 left with only about 3 with more than 1 racer in heh but that's what you get downunder
[Opinion] I have bought and play LFS almost every other day for a year and a half because of two things 1. Online functionality of LFS (i.e. Net code and Online User Interactivity) 2. Physics (even though they are incomplete) Not because of fancy graphics or multitudes of cars/tracks or immersive game play... Lower graphics actually opens LFS up to a wider community than otherwise would be possible (although it may turn off some hard core gamers with high end machines) I couldn't count how many interesting people I've met and have raced with that are stuck on low end machines that would not be able to run most of the other current titles on their machines (even at lowest settings).. Also if CPU power has too be allocated for things (as it does) I'd prefer the bulk of it to be for realistic physics well before graphics.. but having said that I always was under the impression that S3 was going to be where all the finishing touches were going to be applied in the audio visual department, as well as ironing out any other remaining bugs in game play… More car/ tracks I didn't like at first (spread everyone that is online too thin), but that’s improving as time goes by… Immersive game play.. well that’s up to us as teams and event organiser’s in the LFS community to create we've got the tools as in RL (i.e. event location and cars) plenty of real atmosphere can be created without the need for artificial atmosphere.. also the developers have been listening to the community in regards to making it easier and more interesting to have online events… [/Opinion]
Yep Im in the same boat as you m8, casual user because of shift work and added irritation of being stuck on an analog modem (gotta love farm life lol)..
Well in aussie time particularly in afternoon till early evening it is indeed slim pickings in the s2 licensed area.. still a fair bit of activity on demo but normally its near impossible to find a good race
But if you do shift work maybe on some shifts you can get on in the mornings to catch the end of the european peak times.. I personally never race in private servers even though Im on a team, I normally try to get online between 8am -12noon WA time and catch some of the USA, and south American racers (Normally go for any type of road car or rally racing as its always good value) the only other time when there's abit of activity for me is after 10pm
And thats one way of looking at it, but what Cueball is trying to point out is that the GPU see's it as x4 as much work.. this is because its not looking at the dimensions of the texture but rather the total pixel count
512x512 texture has a total of 262,144 pixels
1024x1024 texture has a total pixel count of 1,048,576
so the graphis card will infact be handling 4x the amount of data, I thought he was resonably clear myself LOL but hey
BTW 2x width and 2x hieght, is 2 times twice so equals 4x simple math
It may or ,may not be useful.. but it sure would have been more useful several weeks ago poor old Scawen has been working under false assumptions since P5.. and that must be frustrating..
Lets all just take a lesson from this though and when we see a bug in a test patch report it ASAP (not just use the last working one and say nothing ) so that Scawen has acurate information to work from, he is relying on us that choose to "try" the test patches to report problems in a timely manner (I'm guilty here to, so I'm not blaming.. I often think ah someone else will report it or they probably know ) if we don't do this he will be programming under false assumptions which will just make the process more dificult..
I hope you can find a solution Highbridge, did you try the program Honey made it sounds promising..
As soon as you go online you can see there's a new patch, because on the left hand side of the servers list you will see several servers running Q but yes maybe its a good idea for when incompatible patches are released
To implememnt chinese characters would have taken much longer (like 10x as long) I'm sure he will do it though if you really want but then you'll have to wait awhile for your beloved physics updates
Thx Scawen your efforts are much appreciated
Damn! it's like LFS is a living organism it just keeps growing and growing :hyper:
Forgive my exubrence.. its early morning here :dopey:
I for one am very pleased to see multi-language support added to LFS (even though I'll never need it personally ) Many friends I have made in LFS don't speak english as their first language, so I'm pleased for them... also you must realise that a great number of people don't speak english at all - so it can only be a good thing for the future of LFS (just look at how many RL racers struggle with english in tv interviews) LFS shouldn't just be exposed to english speaking people if it is to be a true racing SIM, so grats to the LFS Dev team for running with multi-langauge support It is LFS online features that is one of its stand out features so its great to see it being developed even more in this area..
and i would like to see it cost credits to get your car repaired then only consistent racers could drive the higher end cars Oh and before anyone says it, even if a wrecker keeps hitting me and i loose all my credits.. no problem i'd get them back soon enough in the gti
I voted Rally but touring cars comes a close second
Not just WRC for me either love all forms of rally, including one event called the Targa Rally here in Aus. its basically an open class rally on tarmac oh and I love any event held at Bathurst
I've used an XBOX controller for one and a half years now.. As Iron_Maiden does I just reduce the max steering lock to give me more precision in the central steering area while retaining full linear motion.. You actually only need a small steering lock to get around the race track (i.e. BLGP in the GTI I used 9.0 for awhile sucesfully), athough it can be a bit of a problem getting out of the pits or turning around if you spin so I tend to use a steering lock which is 50-60% of the maximum steering lock for that car, on some tracks it might need to be slightly higher.. for example some of the South City tracks. All other settings are no different to a wheel setup.. it just takes practise to be smooth and precise
As for controller settings I retain a pure linear motion i.e. ensure there is NO dead spot/zone in center of stick movement, that analog steer smooth function is close to 0, steer center reduction is off, and the wheel turn compensation setting is 180.
If I'm not 100% sure of someones brake points (i.e. I don't know them) I will assume they are much earlier than mine and as a consequence will normally pull out of their line so I will take them on the inside if they brake too early or am able to pull back in behind them if I see they are a similar speed to me I think most of the frustration that people have on public servers is that most races are very short (average 5 laps) so being held up costs alot of time in a race where there isn't much time that is why I tend to hunt for servers with 7-20 laps races.. and would join longer ones frequently if they were available when I was online
Also as a side note some people are fast on their ideal line but once they're off that line.. they're like a fish out of water, successfully navigating slower traffic is not just about being faster
[Edit] Mm sry bit off topic Jezz I have a bad habit of doing that lately my brain must be fried lol [/Edit]
Aw same problem as hyperactive second link also.. im getting 4-10kbs where normally i'd get 50-60, but will continue anyway cause it sounds soo good i'll just go have dinner while I wait oh oh it's gone upto 20kb/s id better eat fast
[Edit] Very nice movie m8.. well worth the wait to download [/Edit]
