Quote from Specht77 :What I understand of what they did, is that they didn't prohibited anyone from modding, they just removed the "showroom" of mods from the forum, so they don't have any legal problem with ripped content on mods

You can still make mods and post them anywhere but the official forum

The modding subforum will still have "how to" topics

That's exactly what I read into the announcement... I rather have them focus on developing AC further than deal with the legal issues that will inevitably arise from some unlicensed rip. I don't see why this is such a big deal, and this
Quote from ACCAkut :I've gotten 3 PMs already from guys I've been doing beta testing with telling me they are taking a step back from AC altogether.

is just throwing a tantrum. Is is really so hard to move over to racedepartment, where most mods end up anyway?

Allegedly there won't be steering wheel support for it. If this turns out to be true then they might as well saved themselves the trouble...

Ah, six figures - I knew there was a reason why you're unable to enter a search query in this very forum... Do tell your servants to try that next time before you explode...

Look what my certainly not six figures found me in 10 seconds flat: https://www.lfs.net/forum/thread/61582 Magnificent, is it not?

I always thought the tracks looked a bit too clean, it made them feel lifeless... I'll welcome any change that might remedy this.

Also, I can't wait for the laserscanned Red Bull Ring they announced for 2016... I know the modded one is really good, but still has some flaws... It'll also be interesting since it's the only track in AC's lineup that I have actual experience with, so it's the first chance for me to really judge how close its physics are to real life...

Madden 2016 review

For someone always requesting everyone else to read more, your own reading skills seem to be sorely lacking...

Outside manager games and fictional Handegg-style games, there hasn't been a PC release of an American Football game since Madden '08...

Alright, saw the film yesterday, so here is my opinion: for me, it was just an OK film... Yes, the action and the effects were great, the characters are intriguing (Team Fin!) - but the plot holes and overbearing fan service ruined it for me.

[rant]
mrbogeyman mirrored my feelings about this being more "A New Hope" II rather than Ep. VII, so I won't make them again here...

This film is supposed to be 20 years after Ep. VI, which makes it about 40 - 50 years from the first episodes? So 50 years is enough to make a long standing war between Jedi and Sith-led armies myth? Or the (probably) centuries of culling force-sensitive children by a Paladin Order preaching "the Force" attached to the Senate most worlds belonged to has become legend in just a few decades?

That in turn makes Rey the single most OP character in the whole franchise! Even the former King of OP Vader needed years of training to have such a cakewalk as she did:
- Captured by the bad guys? No problem, just a quick mindtrick and off she goes.
- Sneaking through evil base crawling with minions? Spider-sense - excuse me, Force-foresight engaged!
- Battling a (somewhat) trained Sith apprentice with will and lightsaber who just moments ago tore through his enemies? EZ...
That is quite the feat for an untrained girl who days before thought such things just stories...

The end was a bit contrived as well, with R2D2 miraculously turning on just when it was time to begin the next arc, but that could be explained (by a vision of Luke maybe) in the next episode (I doubt it will be)...
[/rant]

I hope the fan service is done now and Abrams can bring something new to the Star Wars Universe, the characters would definitely deserve that...

There is a reply in a linked thread by a Valve Dev:

Quote :We accepted some bases that had high vibration (due to shape or alignment issues with the rotors) in order to get as many out to developers as possible. For some, the vibration does not really cause any noise directly, but causes other things (cables touching the base, or whatever the base is mounted to) to make a lot of noise. The first thing to check is to lightly touch things near the base and see if the noise goes away. If it does, you can try to address that.

Quote from e2mustang :[...] as long as it would not overrev if i downshifted.

I'd say you're doing just that... Granted, I'm definitively not fast and I haven't tried H-gate cars to tell if they forced it on cars which wouldn't have such protection, but in the 2 hours I drove various GTs yesterday, I had exactly one incident where it didn't shift down on the first try - and I'm guessing that was an edge case which I admit may have been just a bit too soon...

Blancpain Endurance Series 2015 - Silverstone

45 mins left. Too bad #23 Nissan had a crash so it's relatively far back right now Frown

With so little time left, I rather wait for the upload of the broadcast on GTWorld - it's SRO's official channel... Not only do they stream every part of every Blancpain Series event (practices, qualifyings and races of both Sprint and Endurance Series) via youtube, you can go there and watch practically right after the stream ends in case you missed one or want to catch up. I wish more series would do that...

Apart from going away from the original question for a one-liner, I don't see the point or I'm missing something big here... I see only two reasons for "kicking the clutch" in hard acceleration (apart from shifting, of course):
1. not enough throttle, engine bogs down, kick the clutch to bring the revs up - you did it wrong...
2. too much throttle, tires wildly spinning, kick the clutch to give them time to regain traction - you're doing it wrong (probably also better to use the throttle for that)...

If you're kicking the clutch at any point during a start (or "launch"), you're doing it wrong...

Quote from jnr89 :I need to check this, in the telemetry, is there a way to see the maximum grip available just before losing grip??

Even better, you can look at the traction levels while you're watching a replay or even while racing (if you really want to): just toggle forces view (default key is "F")! The bigger the vector arrows, the more force is exerted, and the color tells you how near to the limit you are (red = sliding).

Quote from jnr89 :this is tricky for me because, in real life i have to drive a pick-up truck, is an automatic, but you have to trust me when i have to take a downhill and i need to use engine braking to help the brakes, the rear tyres locks, i managed to practice to reduce the tyres locking (with a somehow heel and toe) because this behavior is typical, at least in my case:

a) braking on downhills, using the brake pedal and engine braking

b) braking with the pedal and engine braking on wet roads (downhill or flat roads), basically the same if there is sand on the road, or gravel or any kind of conditions that make the road slippery

It is probably a quite similar situation, as a pick-up truck's brake bias is usually set with a loaded flatbed in mind. As such, I can see how the added load shift on a decline or the generally lower grip levels on a wet road could lock the rear wheels. So you probably have a good basis already, now you just have to incorporate the clutch into your motion... Smile

Quote from jnr89 :i just saw this video about the "perfect score" for a drift (drift muscle series), and this guy just did a crazy pedals work, i can see him clutching without shifting (and i just ask myself why did he do that?, i guess he pulled the e-brak) and even heel and toe without downshift, it blew my mind, [...]

As Ryoso said, the "clutch-kicking" technique is used by drifters to purposely breaking the rear loose and initiate a drift by adding the jolt I spoke about to the tires that are already at their limit (think the "traction circle", you can't accelerate/decelerate as much when you're cornering). I don't really see that in the video though, it seems to me the driver tries to keep the turbo spooling with the clutch while he controls the angle with the handbrake and the throttle. All his rather abrupt inputs are focused on keeping the rear tires spinning for as long as possible. I'd say the footwork in the video is singular to drifting or even just this car/track combination. If your focus is speed, on a track especially, you'll need to be much less busy and much smoother with your inputs.

Some examples of great footwork, in order from less to more grip, by masters of speed:
Walter Röhrl in his prime, rallying in the 80ies (rally car on dirt, on the channel of our resident clipmaster deggis)
Ayrton Senna driving the Honda NSX around Suzuka (road car on track)
James Courtney in Hamilton 2011 (race car on wet road track)
James Courtney (again) in Queensland 2009 (race car on dry track)

Hi there, always good to hear people recovering from illness, good on ya! Thumbs up

Not noticing a difference can have one of two reasons: either you're doing it really well out of the box, or the driven tires are not on the limit of traction while you're braking.

Changing down a gear adds a sudden jolt of braking force on the driven tires through the driveline due to the engine revving way slower than it would at that speed in the lower gear. This jolt can be alleviated either through slipping the clutch (which obviously puts much strain on it, something you may not want), or revving the engine up so the difference between engine revs and driveline revs is less.

The most important time to get heel toe-shifting right is in a RWD car with enough braking force on the rear tires that the jolt would lock the rears, sending you into a spin. Otherwise, the tires will soak up the force or, in the case of a FWD, the car will just understeer (not advisable either for making the corner or flatspotting, but not as bad).

There is now an archive for 2015, albeit without any entries currently: http://www.v8supercars.com.au/view/v8superview/archive/year/2015

I'm hoping these delays are due to the usual initial problems using a new partner... Otherwise, I'll be cancelling too - and since I can't get MotorsTV, idiotic company policies forced a willing customer to piracy (yet again)... Ironic, I remember watching the (delayed) full broadcasts on the official V8SC youtube channel...

Quote from robt :Anyone able to get todays qualifying races off Superview yet? Don't really fancy waiting much longer, it'll be on motors TV (Albeit with adverts every 5 seconds!) in about an hour.

EDIT: Managed to watch the qualfying AND first races on motors TV before its even on superview. think ill be asking for a refund........seems to have gone downhill this year.

There still is nothing but 2 minute highlight videos... I somehow get the suspicion that they won't HAVE archived broadcasts... Which would be a huge step back, because a) I certainly can't and won't be watching live at about 3 am in the morning, and b) the full broadcasts from 2014 are still available (if you have last year's pass)!

Quote from Gutholz :But: If you are thinking about to buy this wheel, you might want to know that it has no force feedback. Like many other cheap wheels it only has vibration. Some things are "matter of taste" but FFB is very basic requirement I think.

That's what I meant with upgrade... FFB is a necessity in my opinion - if you're buying a wheel with only vibration, you might as well use any (half-)modern gamepad...

Hello there!

If your PC recognizes the wheel as a controller, you should be able to use the wheel for LfS without problems.

Do you own that wheel already? It might be fine in the beginning, but if you want to get into racing sims more seriously, you might want to upgrade to a better one soon...

Or just having some semblance of awareness of his surroundings... Now I know that Perez' move was optimistic at best and probably unnecessary in the first lap of the race, but I saw lots of overtakes in the broadcast in those two corners, some from as much behind as Perez. Yet he remained the only one blind enough to turn into the car on the inside...

How does the bar in the axis-options react when you turn it to the left?

Quote from R3DMAN :had a race today which was pretty good.

2 WR drivers, 1 who won (z4), and the other in the silver SLS.

Nice race, although the Beemer did quite some aggressive defending, to say the least...

Is that standard tyre squeal? This is almost Hollywood-level of tyre noise - the only time I ever heard slicks squealing in real life was when somebody was getting way out of shape or was already in the process of crashing...
