Everyone has the right of their opinion. I see that some of them are rude, but being rude back isn't going to solve the problem.

1. At the start of the year itself, I did the first ever paid project, on myself, without my uncle's company's help. http://buttonbashers.com - The movie list, on the right (It's a bit heavy, because I wasn't that good at flash programming yet. Still not, but I know the ways to do it heaps better now).

2. DONE HIGH-SCHOOL! :bannana_p

3. Started a job at my uncle's company, because I didn't get accepted for the specialty I wanted in the uni.

4. Did my first ever big flash project. (You can see it only when I'm at work, because it works from my lappy. Every Monday to Friday from 09:30(10:00, realistically, because I'm almost always late :razz to 18:00 GMT+2, here: http://studio.lemon.bg:1991/lemon/flashbooks

5. Just finished my first ever big programming(PHP + javascript(consisting of pure js, ajax and jQuery)) project. It's a german website for students, looking for a job(obviously, in germany). The owner of the website connects the two parties, and gets a commission. Live here: http://studijobagent.de ..The administration system is actually 90% of the project. What you see on the front side, is just like 10% of everything.

X. Made some new friends, got closer to others.

Y. Finally fixed my car in a way, that it is now actually safe to be driven.

Z. Made some discoveries about my personality(no, not that  I like taking pictures of just about everything. And that I'm very good at coming up with super idiotic ideas for pictures, that turn out to be... idiotic(and sometimes funny). One of them was to stick out of my car's window and pretend I'm flying it. Looks pretty retarded, taking in mind that you can see the wheels, being on the ground..

B?. Yesterday(17 Dec, 2010) was my first business date. If it's called a date, haha. I met the boss or owner(not sure) of one of the biggest pizzerias in my city(name - Godzila). I loved how I was the youngest one there, and yet as the only programmer in the room, everyone needed my opinion. ^_^

I. got a lappy.

Was an awesome year for me, personally. But I hope, that I will be accepted in the Uni, that I want next year, because this is still my main priority.

And I know that it is on topic, but anyway, sorry for sharing so much personal info.

Quote from PoVo :I never said age = maturity. What I said was that usually (99% of the time), and older person is more mature than a younger one

Nope.

And I could have gotten it wrong, but you should understand my confusion here - first you said WS fell apart, because of immaturity, and then you said that you are happy to be in a team with 2 adults. Those 2 statements, together, make it sound a bit like "how happy I am to be in a team with 2 mature people (30+)". Not trying to be mean, but it sounded like that to me.

Yes, I've been through this procedure. Every time I call I tell them the IP that my lappy usually gets(along with the ports I want, obviously). If the local IP is different, I change it on the laptop. I realize what port forwarding means, and how it works. Thanks for the explanation tho, and for that tool too. I will get it and see how it goes.

I am waiting for a better one to expand their region. But for now, this is the best you can get. It is the most stable ISP for my area at the moment. That's why I am sticking with it for now. The support on the others is even worse too, so no point. All I used to get from the support from my prev ISP was:
Step 1: Turn off your router; wait 20 seconds; start again.
Step 2: If it still doesn't work: Restart your computer.
Step 3: If it still doesn't work: Reinstall windows.
Step 4: If it still doesn't work, your LAN card is broken. Replace it.
Step 5: They will send a technician to stay at your house, doing nothing, because the problem is simply on their side.

The other ISPs you can get on here are either with lower speeds, or not as stable as this one. It's just not worth the installation tax.
Hack your own router?

Sorry if this topic is for Technical Assistance, but this place seems better to me for it. And I'm more comfortable writing here, because it's just maybe one of the places in the forum, where it's relatively calm.

Anyway, let's get straight to the topic. How can you hack your own router? In this case, I am basically asking how can I hack my own router, obviously.
Since I got a lappy, I have always had this annoying problem. All the internet traffic has to pass through the router. Before that, the PC was directly hooked to the cable, and it worked flawlessly. But now, I am facing the ports issue. I believe that I have a good point of wanting to hack it.

Let me tell you why:
For one thing, no ports are forwarded on the router. And this is the main reason why I want to be able to hack it. Or do whatever to it, just to gain access to that specific area.

Why can't I do it, you would ask?
My ISP is not allowing me access to there. The router has some sort of protection.

And why is THAT?
Because, by having this router, I have an agreement with my ISP, that other people would be able to use it too. It basically hosts 2 wireless networks. One personal, and one public, which every client of the same ISP can use. It is made that way, so the clients can have wireless all around the city. I do NOT want to touch that part. I want to let it be. If I wanted, I could have bought another router, or I could have reseted or flashed this one. I want to let other people use it. BUT - my isp doesn't seem to believe me.

OK, why would they not open my ports then?
That, I have no idea. Every time I call them, they say that they have opened them. Nobody ever says that somebody has opened them before. I wrote on their forums; I contacted their staff more than once, and I don't want to do it any more. They have payment plans for Static IPs. It is quite cheap too, but I don't want that. I simply want a few ports forwarded. I want my projects on xampp to be accessible from the outside. I want to host LFS servers every now and then, when I feel like testing. And that's pretty much it. My plan is for 30mbit/s both down and up, how come would I have no rights to host anything? Nothing says that I am not allowed to host servers, or anything like that.

That's why I have reached the final conclusion: The damn thing needs to be hacked, and I need to be able to access it's control panel. It's a NETGEAR WGR614 v8, btw, in case you have any suggestions
I am tired of this, and you have no idea how bad I want to hack it. I have read here and there. Some people say restart it, and while it's booting, extract it's username and password. Good, I don't know how that would happen, but I might dig into it more, if I ever get to a login screen. That thing is protected too.

This is like the weirdest conflict of interests ever. I want to keep their settings, and I want people to still be able to have access through my router. But how on earth would I do that, if they won't tell me any login details? Seriously, if this doesn't work, I might just try flashing it, as that's what an ex employee of the company told me to do. Or just buy a new router. Why do they not understand that there is a rough way, and there is THIS way, that I want. Maybe I should just post a thread like this on their forum, so that more people can see the point in this.

It is just so annoying! :gnasher:

Would it require some low level stuff? I don't demand anyone to do it for me, even tho it would be purely awesome .. I'd be more than happy if I'm pointed to an article.. or.. something. I've never been a "hacker". I am not interested in it either. But in this case, I think, if I want to achieve my goal, I'd need to know this and that.

Sorry for the long read, and thanks for any help in advance.

You can't judge about everyone in the team, by the few people you know from it. Besides, it's not nice to talk like that - talk about immaturity now.

On top of that, age != maturity. Age = age and maturity = maturity. These are completely different things. They shall never be mixed and used as one.

I looked for a thread about this, but couldn't find any.

So.. I wanted your opinion on RockMelt. Do you like it? ..or hate it?

I, for one think it's pretty neat.
Being a web dev means that I have to have an open browser all the time. And with RockMelt this means that I can chat with my friends at any time. I normally can't visit lfsforum either, but with RockMelt, I get updates on it. Plus - it's based on Chromium, and I'm a Chrome fan. That's pretty much why I like it so much. It's like my favorite browser + extras.

To get it, there's the link: http://www.rockmelt.com/
You will have to submit your email. I have received no spam.

Because I like to take every possible failure into consideration. Connection losses are not something that happens often, but also not something that never happens. I don't like the idea of my app crashing, because of it's inability to work offline. And after I'm at it, why not just add 5mins of work more to inform the users about the potential loss, they may experience?

Anyway, I think that I thought of a better approach for my situation. I'm going to save the connections in a list anyway(C# app), so I could just keep the entry until connection to the db is restored. I will still inform the users if I take that approach, because in case of a long down time.. or.. something, I am going to clear some of the app's memory(by clearing some records from the connections list, obviously) ..probably. I'm maybe thinking too huge scale, but I like to waste a few processes more, instead of having a crashed app, or even worse - an overloaded server, in case the app eats too much memory.

Safest db fail protection?

Ok, so I wanted to start a thread, because I was chatting with a friend, and we were discussing what would be the best way to protect user stats in case of a failure, while your(or my) application is trying to connect to the database.

What is the best solution, imo:
Whenever I think about it, I seem to come back to my original solution: Just notify the users that the database can not be accessed and that their stats for their current visit, might not be saved.

What are the other possibilities:
Well, for one thing, as my mate suggested - you could have a flat database file(the ones that I hate most, because the SQL syntax there is just so damn limited), and save all the users there too. Then there's the thing that you will have to compare the 2 databases, and wonder which one has the newer data now.

The second option could be temporary text files. I dislike the whole idea around having files, the encoding of which you can never be sure of. And also there's the human factor here - modifying is easy, and I don't know what they can put in the file - basically, I don't want the whole application crashing, just because of a faulty txt file. And there are far too many things that can happen to them.

The third option we discussed, was to dump the SQL code in a txt file again. But for the same reasons, as the second option I didn't like that option either.

The fourth option was almost the same as the third. But dump the SQL queries in a flat database file this time. Thinking about it now, each query could have it's own row. But on the other hand: There's still the human factor there. Someone could accidentally move or delete the file(and one of the people I'm afraid of is myself). Then, there's one more reason. By the time this query is executed the person, that it corresponds to could have rejoined the server a couple of times, which would make the data incredibly irrelevant(that also goes for the third option too).

So, that's all the solutions and combinations of solutions we could think of.
What do you do when you can't access your database for one or another reason? For all the reasons specified above, I keep it simple: Just notify the users in the server, that the database is not currently accessible, and let them know that the stats they build up might, and most probably will be lost when they leave the server.

After all, I prefer a day of unsaved stats, instead of messing up the accounts of everyone that has joined the server during that day. I could easily give some extra to everyone who's account stats have not been saved today. But how would I make it up to people that have played forever, and their stats have been totally messed up?

But if you have any better solutions than mine, please feel free(no.. I demand you :razz to share them. I'd really like to have a better and user-friendly way to go about this so rare, but also so-annoying-when-it-happens issue.

The insim running in my drift server is using LFS External, and it's going quite well so far, but I was wondering, the people using mouse can't seem to hide their cursor. Have they tried to press Shift+Z?
When the connections list is open (pressing N) it happens too.

Half a second is more than enough for any regular server. And by regular - I mean the usual crap. If it lags without an insim - don't put one on it! If the server can't handle your needs, don't rent it. Simple as that. Unless you got it for free that is.

In the MCI handler, if this is what you're asking. ( If it is what you're asking for, then you can stop reading here.) Because from the way you asked it, it sounds more like "Would you please guide me step by step how to use C#, and then add the locations for me, because my knowledge won't be sufficient enough even then", which basically means "Please code the locations for me, and teach me how to build my source". I suggest looking around in threads in the programming forum too - that should help, because there are many discussions, about how to properly handle MCI packets in LFS_External.

If nothing of the above made sense, please seek help from google, on C# for beginners. Or just start tweaking your project, until you finally get which is where, and what does it actually do. The 2nd way is the funnier, of course(well, imo at least), but it is as well the slower one. Or.. just do whatever you want.

The thing I do not recommend tho, is to start using this forum as your place to ask beginner C# questions in silly ways, thus becoming another annoying personality, that nobody wants to help in the end. <- No offense, just warning you what would (probably) happen if you take that road.
