1 - Obvious
2 - Can't happen really
3.1 - Most fps games have maps, where the flag's position is static. I would suggest layouts for this. Also on racing tracks, flags should be in the 2 sides of the map, in equally long distance to reach from both sides once you leave the pits.
3.2 - Indicator arrows would be a little painfull to code, and also kind of useless if you have pre-defined maps.
(3.3) - To that I suggest a cop-like system. If you have stopped and someone from the enemy team is near you, then you get pitlaned.
3.4 - See 3.1.
4 - 5m is too much imo, minding that you could have a cone and/or a chalk-marked spot, where the flag will actually be.
5 - Could be easier than making it on-collision, indeed.
6 - Again, obvious
7 - Home areas would be both flag spawn sites.
8 - To avoid re-coding the insim app every time a layout is added, I'd suggest a database with layout names and spawn coordinates, in case anyone gets to code this.
8.1(note) - If you do it like specified in 8, then note that layouts have to be loaded with /axload in order for the insim to work properly, or else it wouldn't detect the name.
8.2 - I felt like posting something obvious too: Best way to save coordinates would be with commands. Like !spawnRed (optional) [X], [Y] and obviously !spawnBlue with the same parameters. If X and Y aren't set, then obviously, you're supposed to use the car's current position. Then if you need to alter those I suggest !alterRed and !alterBlue with the same (again, optional) parameters.
Hope you didn't mind me changing(and dare I say improving? :shy your version.
You can always code your own.
The MCI packet contains X, Y and Z coordinates, what more do you need? Ok, you do need the dimensions of the cars and that's what the biggest problem really is, but I guess they can be found somewhere .. or .. not.
Would be easy as hell to make both versions once you know how to detect a car collision.
But why am I even bothering... You know that even better than me
That's possible, but kind of hard (at least for me) to detect when 2 cars hit each other. Other thing - to have 2 flags in certain spots and bla bla - easy as pie.
(If only I had the time to develop this ..Maybe I will next month... or the month after that... blah, I don't know I'm full of tasks, and all I'm doing is wondering how I'm gonna complete them, instead of actually trying -.- Why am I such a lazy ass $#%! argh)
You don't wanna know what shirt my mother got me as a gift when she was in Greece. It would definitely fit this thread..
It usually stays under all my other shirts, but sometimes when I feel weirdly funny I wear it(but never when I go out with friends).
No, you don't have to stay there unless you really want it. No one will ever make you stay in the server if you don't want to. And staying there AFK is a bit pointless, but it is a fact that indeed a lot more people will see the server, since it won't be filtered as empty anymore.
It was not "always empty". A lot of racing action happened, but you were hardly ever on. However, I can explain why nobody was connecting the last time I was in with you:
1: The cruise setting was set to "yes". => Hosting list would look like: -OsR- Old skool Racing [cruise]
2: A cruise insim app. was running. => Even if some racer connects(would hardly happen with cruise set to yes) they will instantly leave.
3: -OsR-'s own insim app. was off.
4: Track was set to AS5. And iirc there was a cruise layout on.
Currently I am planning to learn some C++ and try to recode the OsR insim app so that it can run on 42D's dedi, since I believe that they will be more serious about -OsR-.
As for contacting you:
1: You are not very often online on msn
and 2: You should have contacted me, before turning it off, to let me know what your intentions are. Would have been more polite, imo.
And correct me if I'm wrong but SC servers aren't any much busier than -OsR-, and they already have a cruise server.
No, I am not wrong actually.
And another thing: It is not entirely up to me if the server will be busy or not. True - I was busy this month with a lot of stuff, but why was it always needed me, rep or a 42D member to be online for people to start connecting?
You have caused far too many trouble for -OsT- already. Say it this way: You an admin in -OsR-? Or even: You having direct access to the InSim app. with a possibility to download it? No thank you, I will pass.
The very short answer to your question would be: Personal experience.
Thanks. I will think about it. I have 2 other options tho(42D Fortitude offered support, and so did Lightning Servers), so if it will be somewhat hard for you to manage this then you don't have to put more worries on your mind.
Yes, it is. Mick decided that he wants to host SC's cruise server I guess(not sure tho, cause he never mentioned anything). Anyway, it will stay down for a while(not sure how much "a while" is tho.. might be a lot) as I'm too busy to manage it anyway.
Sorry to everyone and just to let you know: The stats of everyone are safe and ready to be transferred wherever needed.
Also there are better servers than -OsR- you can go and have fun on: IHR, FOX Junkies, LR, etc...
I have had the same issue as the OP. The problem in my case was that the application was sending too much button packets at once(morpha helped me figure that out too so he should know :razz. That's why I had to code a function that helps me have a delay between each button or sequence of buttons that are being sent. And that's what you need... Unless the connection is so bad that it is impossible for the server to keep an insim connected along with users in it.
1st of all: My morning was so very unlucky.. But it was actually so funny. You know how they say that there are days that everything just starts going wrong... well only the morning was like that. 1st off: I burnt my finger when I wanted to move an element I was welding with my bare hands. After a few mins of drowning it in water i got some gloves on and returned back to welding... enlightened(if that's the right word) myself a few times (including once when I turned around right after I did that... and the electrode touched the metal wall just when I uncovered my eyes cause they didn't hurt as much anymore)... Then I said to myself that I'm not gonna be welding today. After that I had to move the elements that I never welded anyway back in the pile. My class mate was welding right next to the spot tho... So I was turned to the side and picked the elements with the big clip... If you can imagine that - Holding a few elements(welded together by other people), with a clip, moving without actually having much of a perfect idea of where I'm going, cause the space was too narrow there; Then, all of a sudden I stepped on sth(it was the stool that was blocking my way), pushed my class mate so he almost fell too, and just the moment i thought "there's no way I'm getting out of this without any damage", I felt my foot stepping on the ground. But then another problem came: my back foot was still behind the stool and I was still falling, but I managed to get it over it and finally stepped with my 2 feet on the ground. Well after that when we had to cross the street a taxi driver turned without signalizing(but that wasn't so funny back then). When the bus finally came I almost fell on the floor cause I didn't see that there was a huge step. And all on all: That was it. With a few jokes from class mates and nothing more serious (nothing physical... i was mentally crushed ..ok i lied ).
The 2nd thing that made me smile was when I saw this thread and imagined how I would write all that.
He says he got fed up. Never said he realized it was wrong.
But on the other hand, yes, I did misread the sentence "So my excuse was always: Its not me its the crasher" as "So my excuse is always: Its not me its the crasher". Anyway, I still like my point enough to not give it up.
