With the Intel Racing Tour using LFS and the BMW Pit Lane Park using rFactor, we have two dev teams simulating the same car using performance data from the same source. Has anyone attended or is planning to attend both events and tell us the differences?

Quote from fragile_dog :Hmmm, a small solution I feel. What if s1 servers showed up in the s2 server listings? Im assuming s2 players can play on s1 servers. This would make s1 servers more popular, allowing s1 players to have a decent race .

I think that's a great solution. I do know quite a few S2 drivers who love to drive cars that just happen to BE S1 content, and would be REALLY happy to see the extra S1 drivers filling up the S1-content, S2 servers.

I agree, it does sound like a good solution. Easier and less risky to security than trying to allow S1ers to access limited S2 servers. It would also be handy to let the S2 server list include demo servers as well as S1. LFSWorld can already to a combined S1/S2/0.3 list. Even though it might not make as much difference now that they've stopped selling S1 licenses, the problem will only pop up again with S3, and to a greater degree because of the sheer increase in the total number of accounts.

Quote from bbman :Nope, "Just racing" is the one you'd want to advertise Lfs...

Seconded, with the BF1 slomo running close second. All Just Racing needs is an update to patch physics and some shots of the BF1.

Tonight I was able to find populated servers for RAC on Westhill rev
and LX4 on Fern Bay green. They're so much more predictable now.

It's not that they're all that much easier to drive, especially
the RAC. Trying to take the last corner of WE rev flat out and not
losing the rear end on the bumps at the exit is exhilarating. same with
the LX4, now I can use a little throttle during the chicanes and
hairpin without instantly spinning.

I think it would help a lot if people viewing the server list in LFS would get automatically logged on to that lounge chatroom at the top of the screen instead of having to press a button. By being able to talk to all the people coming and going it would make it a much easier to organize quick pickup races in servers with less popular car/track combos rather than simply sitting alone on a server and hoping a kind soul shows up.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've been able to find an Apollo 6800 card, but the reviews are mixed on reliability. The only others available are more expensive 6800 GS or lower end 6200 cards. Could I still expect a significant improvement with a 6200?

The first event was yesterday on the 22nd, if I'm not mistaken. Have there been any press releases or reports in the german lfs sites?

With the difference in performance with and without the cockpit, is it safe to say the limiter isn't the CPU?

In the BF1 with wheels only view and the default setup, there's visible deformation on high speed corners like after the long straight on AS Nat. Is the amount about right or should the pressures be higher?

I made a replay of a near full grid race at BL GP. Watching the replay netted me about a 2-3 fps gain compared to when I was driving. I topped out at about 50-55 when alone and 10 at the slowest point. This was right after turn 1, where I spun backwards. However, I found that switching from cockpit to wheels only view netted about 20 more fps, meaning I was hoviering around 70 on the back straight. When close to another car or two, my fps would stay at 25-35 but in wheels only at 45-50. Even at the slowest point it was about 22, a full 12 more fps. Is this conclusive enough evidence of the limiting factor?

I don't want to reduce the visuals any further, and I can't race without cockpit & steering wheel in view. I can spend about $100-150 on an upgrade, preferably as little as possible. I'll be happy with 30-40 fps at the slowest points.

When racing alone, I can get 40-80 fps. When on a full grid in multiplayer, 10-20 in the start and down to 6-7 in some first corners like Blackwood GP. Once I get some clear track it's 30-50 even with all the others still racing elsewhere on the track. Right now I have an XP 1700 and Geforce 3 Ti200. All LODs are minimum, LOD dynamic reduction is max, trees&flags off, low res shadows, 1024x768x32, no AA/AF, cockpit view with mirrors. I want to at least get the lowest possible fps into a playable range without spending a lot.

Changing to wheels view gets me an extra 10 fps on race starts but first corner at BL GP is still 6-7. Lowering resolution to 800x600 doesn't help. I'm thinking maybe there's too many polys for my current graphics card to cope but I'm not sure. Does LFS do more physics work when there are more cars nearby or is it the same wherever they are on the track?

I know it's almost certainly LFS, but I didn't want to jump the gun without an official announcement. Still it would be cool to see photos of the event if some of us go.

Quote from Vykos69 :Yesterday evening on GIGA the projectmanager announced the Intel Racing Tour. This tour will have events throughout whole germany until Feb. 07.

Main price is a BMW M6. On those events you can play the BF1 in some cockpits and qualify for the final event. The online game on the site is a flash-based game and has nothing to do with the Tour-game, which is LFS.

The projectmanager also said, that there wont be a free copy with the BF1, but it will be in the game and everyone can buy the game and practice at home.

So the bottom line: intel has a game that needs skill for their Racing Tour, and LFS has the BF1. As incognito said, that's a win/win situation.

Has the track to be used for the event been announced? :3

BF1 on Aston North or BLGP for crazy fun and a sound check, then RAC to compare new and old tyre physics. I just hope they did something for the BF1's sound. Has anyone tried to make a current V8 F1 engine in LFSTweak?

I read in a thread somewhere that on ovals trains of cars can be faster than single cars because when drafting there's an effect where the car in front can get a small boost in speed or reduction in drag without bumping because of an effect from the car behind being in its draft. Is this true, and is it possible with the patch?

My hope is that the "interesting new feature" is some improvement to the sound. Because if they're going to put a proper F1 car in the game, it's got to have that signature scream.

Comparing the current Blackwood
http://www.lfsforum.net/attach ... tid=8148&d=1145215118

to the fogged Blackwood,
http://www.liveforspeed.net/guru.html

there's a couple of things that stand out.

The Castrol sign over the pit exit is gone.
The trees inside of T1 cast less shadow, or cast it directly downwards.
Same for the trees on the left of the backstraight and the ones between the pits and the tents.
The sign over the highway on the left, off the track has changed.
A shadow without a source just under the tents on the right has been removed. Same for several shadows on the barriers along the front and back straights.
