Also, with CTRA being report flooded anyway, I'd rather advise people to lean back, breath deeply and relax before reporting something that's most likely a race incident and will only waste the admins time to review.

I do it like that and I never ever raised a report...

Quote from james12s :good point 5haz

you say fwd is bad, i have a therory

fwd: bad
rwd: ruddy awful
4wd: perfect :P

and yes i am using the situation to promote the use of 4x4's, why bloody not

Ah, those things can only come from people not used to drive in snow.

I for one think that fwd cars are the best cars to drive in snow, because most of the weight is on the driven wheels, which gives you the most traction.

4wd car's only benefit is that they don't get stuck as easily, but when you're going, they are no more safe to drive than fwd cars. 4wd doesn't magically give you grip if you need to brake or turn.

rwd are absolutely rubbish. You don't get one going unless you put lot's of extra weight in the trunk. Still, you're very prone to spin out, especially when going uphill.

Also, in very slippery conditions, low powered vehicles are easier to drive than the HP monsters most rwd and 4wd are. Additionally, the thinner the tyres, the better you grip in snow, which makes life for SUVs and sporty RWD beemers and mercs even more hard.

Now would anyone explain to me what the point would be in blowing your rear tyres while standing still?

LfS Tweak doesn't work with the demo version IIRC.

And what's a burnout setup?

The RPG guerilla is especially funny if you have played Saints Row 2... you can drag some minions along who take better weapons if they encounter one, which is good. Until they find a rocket launcher...

I don't want to blow your bubble, but I highly doubt it's only 22% of the people who are stupid.

In fact I think that approxiamtely 80 to 90% of the total population of any nation on this earth, are blithering idiots, no matter what they believe in, or what they refuse to believe.

And to add to the other part of this discussion: Religion is a concept that should have been ditched in the Renaissance, as all it did from then on was slowing the human developement down.

Of course, most of the times before the Renaissance, most of the cleric activities revcolved around oppressing and torturing people, but back then, at least convents where places where actual practical research was done.

If it's any comfort: most people who live in countries where it does snow regularly (allthough much rarer nowadays than 15 years ago) still can't drive in it.

Quote from Becky Rose : So you can add 'inspiration' to your list of achievements with LFS, albiet only to the most mentally unstable person on these forums.

I rather think you rank second at best, if I might point to a certain spanish forum member... :P

On Topic: Glad that you're okay, Scawen! I was in sorrow that something more dramatic than your moving and ISP problems held you away from work. Thank god that was not the case and everything will be going back to normal in the coming days or weeks.

And please don't listen to the moaners and complainers.

Quote from bbman :It too is race-specced, the F has no venting above the front wheel...

No, it's not. While it may not be 100% true to the original (never sat in one, so I can't tell), I know for sure it's no race specced cockpit. No rollbars, all the useless bling still in it, etc.

Othe than that, I for one wouldn't mind if it wasn't a true simulator, but simply an arcadish racer that is fun to drive, like the old NfSes or the GT series.

To be really funny, it takes more than some spasmodically moving HL models with techno music.
Of course, there's always the fun of tossing ragdolls around, still, the entertainemt value of that video minus the random unfun elements divided through the length of it equal "Don't click on it" if you could do something with more sense in the next 13 odd minutes.

Moderators read and comment.

They do not develop LfS though.

And I do hope that scawen, simply to remain mentally sane, keeps well away from this subforum.

That's just a distorted view you have there, McDee.

Back in 03, LfS was quite simple. So new features were easy to add, quick to test and art, due to the low polycount was quickly done.
Over the years though, LfS grew very complex. New features, even if they are minor, interact with the existing code, thus it needs more time implementing, testing and fixing things. Additionally, graphics took a big step forward, which also take much longer to produce to the desired level of detail.

So it is really a no-brainer that the "added stuff per month" ratio sinks. That doesn't mean that the developement became slower. For all we know, Scawen could hack in more lines of code per hour than ever before.

Quote from Furiously-Fast :.... sigh.... I just hope this game will be promising. This game will suck if EVERY car is a racing car like in GTR. Needs to have a range of cars like PGR4 (customisable too!)[/COLOR]

No customisation in Shift, thank god. I for one think that the over the top stupid chavy mods from Underground onwards killed the franchise. Also, there will be a free NfS which allows "tuning".

To the screenshot: I too find it somewhat strange to have at least optically race specced corvettes while the cockpit of the Zonda looks to be stock. Still, I guess that some things will change, even though they plan to release it this year.
The Need for Speed may actually become playable again!

Read here:

Me likes very much, with NfS: Shift (still, crappy Codemaster like title) goes back to it's classic values being a decent racing game, while those stupid ricers can buy car mods for real money in NfS World Online.

YAY, it seems that Undercover did at least one thing good: it made the right people see what the franchise has become after Porsche, meaning crap.

I liked Life Aquatic. Still, Darjeeling Limited is better, so you might enjoy it if you like Andersons former films.
Also, I really like his taste in music.

Quote from NightShift : I definitely recommend his excellent Stranger than fiction

I agree

Quote from xaotik :And just about anything else from Wes Anderson really.

I agree, Wes Anderson is great. If you're not into his kind of melancholical comedies, The Royal Tenenbaums (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0265666/) is a good start, as it's his "mainstreamyiest" flick. Still good though.

Having said that, I too enjoy pretty much every silly movie featuring Ben Stiller and/or Owen Wilson (Zoolander, Starsky & Hutch, Dodgeball, Mystery Men)

Quote from TFalke55 :When I drive over some bigger much used roads with 70kph or over the motorways with 80-140kph I feel much more bumps within a few seconds then in south city in a whole lap.

Well, most bumps you feel IRL are not really feelable in FFB, because they don't apply rotational forces to the steering. They are noticable visually though, which is as good as we get until FFB seats will become standard

Quote from el pibe :or rather when i loose my virginity ( in not so long tho... )

but wait... there is a thing that came to my head like 5mins ago..... will the 'rocco be limited to 155mph ? ( u kno... those laws made by the german green party..... )

On a sideonte, IIRC it's not because of the green party (155 mph / 250 kph is far from "green"), but rather a gentlemen's agreement that Porsche as the only true sportscar manufacturer is allowed to make cars quicker than that. From factory, that is.

And S14, your hands don't count neither.

I can recommend two flicks I saw recently, yet again on DVD:

Stay (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0371257/) Quite psychedelic, has it's lengths but still left me impressed.

Big Nothing (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0488085/) Most likely the best film David Schwimmer took part in (except Madagascar), Simon Pegg helps too.

I doubt they will come in the next two patches though.

IIRC, a portion of the price of CD and DVD writables is also meant to compensate for a possible "illegal" use of them.

I for one find it very alarming that nowadays everyone is considered a "pirate". It seems we're all guilty until proven innocent.

I think many people in here forget that what we feel in LfS is huegly dependant on your setup, and can range from being light and almost not noticable to very strong simply by editing some values (and I don't meed force feedback strength). Concerning fidelity of the FFB, I don't think it's behind iRacing, it's rather a problem of too smooth tracks.
I for one still feel more connected to the car and the road in LfS than in iRacing (which I stopped playing after my 1 month subscription ran out... and I haven't had the urge to nplay it ever since)

And I too think that there isn't much to borrow from iRacing that isn't utopian (laser scanned tracks) or mere eye candy (realtime shadows with self shadowing, modern pixel shaders).

Quote from NoYPiDRiFTER : It will affect it when S3 comes out, meaning you will have to buy the S3 "update"

Wrong, that's the beauty of LfS's system.
Even when S3 comes out (which is still a few years away), you won't have to purchase it, you can still play with your S2 (or even S1) account, as those stages don't restrict LfS itself, but the available content. So you'd just miss out the new cars and tracks that would require the S3 License, but you'd still benefit from all the rest of added features and bugfixes.

Quote from BoneCrusher :The cause of that isn't me, but the bumpy way the image is moving.

Wrong, must be you. I never ever got seasick from playing LfS, or any other game for that matter.

Also, IIRC you can reduce the bumpyness somewhere in the options, but it just escapes my mind how exactly to do so.

Still, I for one wouldn't mind if there were mirrors in the 3rd person view.
