Allright, I have played it through. My verdict:

The pros:
+ Graphics look gorgeus. Even though the texture resolution is lower than in part 1, the overall image quality is much higher, due to better lighting.
+ The "body feel" is great, you feel a lot less like a camera zipping around at chest height than in other fps.
+ The Nano Suit is better, the modes are more useful and easier to use in combat.
+ The combat can be quite tactical
+ some really awesome script sequences
+ SP campaign is long enough not to feel cheated, but short enough not to overstay it's welcome.
+ Combat feels very visceral.

the cons:
- No quicksave.
- small and restrictive levels.
- while combat can be tactical, too many encounters force you to tackle them directly.
- scripts taking away control for you, and often.
- as with all other crytek games, the combat get's less interesting as soon as the "monsters/aliens" show up, allthough admittedly, to a much lesser extent than in far cry or crysis 1.
- Cutscenes. I haven't seen such ugly FMV cutscenes in a long time.
- Level continuity. I think there isn't a single level which starts where the last one left you. The transitions are made via the afore mentioned cutscenes, which also serve as mission briefings. That really has a retro vibe, especially with the ugly cutscenes. Also, it's quite ridiculous how often Alcatraz is knocked out to awake somewhere else.
- Mute character. Not in a Gordon Freeman like good way, but rather ridiculous. For half of the game you're mistaken for someone else, get asked questions constantly and don't utter a single word, which, in several situations could have prevented the "knocked out, fade out" level end.
He does utter one very cheesy line at the very end though...

All in all, I can say the first 1/4 is a dull "interactive script move", then, the next 1/4 is actually quite enjoyable, as it offers the most freedom, and then, the last half is again more like an interactive movie.
It doesn't really feel like a crysis game, more like Halo/Killzone/CoD, and if you compare it to those franchises, it actually is a good game.
Crysis 1 and warhead are still the better games though.

I say it's a safe buy if you wait for the price to drop below 30€, or if you really dig modern triple-A shooters.

Ok. so I bought Crysis 2, even though I found part 1 only mediocre.

And I have to say I am pleasantly surprised. It does look gorgeus on extreme, and it features almost overly saturated colours, which make it look absolutely beautiful. And it runs better than part 1.

To summarize my yet quite fresh impressions: It's a way better action game than any Call of Honorfront, and the enemies act reasonably intelligently. I do have the fear though, that just like in Far Cry and Crysis 1, once the aliens/monsters appear, the gameplay will be much less tactical, and thus blander.
It strikes a fine balance between railroading you through and giving you oportunities to to use different approaches, especially since switching between the suit's powers is much more fluent, and they are tweaked to be properly useful.
The first person cover system is simply the best cover system of the industry right now, even though i do think RO:HoS will best it in that aspect.

All in all, one of the very few recent games that don't feel like I wasted money by paying full price. Especially since the SP campaign is said to be 10 hours long.

And here are some commented screenshots (1920x1080, extreme):

That's a screen of the intro. One of my main gripes with the early game is that it takes control of you quite often, even limiting where you look. Don't like when games do this. it even teases you occasionally with a "control override" message when it does.

More of the Intro...

The visuals can be stunningly beautiful.

Last time I've been here was in 2052

Stealth kills are awesome. Period.

Some of the graphics are not so good... this is on extreme settings, I swear!

Quote from jibber :Yeah, the cars bouncing all over the track like easter bunnies on crack... that part was really exciting!

Hm, I didn't encounter the "bouncing" cars... unless you mean the screen shake, but that didn't bother me at all.

Quote from miata :Its because about 18 months ago shift 1 had the exact same build up promising to have decent physics and we were all left disappointed.

I wasn't. Not that I like to defend EA in general and NfS in particular, but the marketing blurb always stated it wanted to recreate the feel of driving a car close at the limits, and not to minutely simulate those cars.

And I for one think that Shift did exactly that. It somehow managed to make the driving exciting, while refraining from being an arcadefest. IMHO the best NfS since Porsche unleashed.

Still, I won't buy part two, because I actually have part 1 and I don't see the need to buy a second copy with a slightly altered car roster...

As I get a new contract/phone next month, I think I'll decide between those android models:

Google Nexus S: The newest google phone (made by samsung), with a slightly curved touchscreen. Pro: Pure android with no additional UI layer on top = Android updates come much sooner. con: No Super AMOLED display.

Sony Ericson Xperia Play: The "Playstation phone". Pro: I use my phone to game a lot, and having a proper(ish) controller + legal PS1 games is a huge pro for that. Con: It's more of a toy than a phone and quite bulky from what I heard. Also, no Super AMOLED.

And then there are the usual suspects of the Samsing Galaxy S i9000, the HTC Desire HD or the Desire Z...

Quote from 91mason91 :Nice bump.

We should set up a LFS GT5 league for the sake of killing time untill Japan and PD get themselves sorted out. I also helped by donating £10 to that Japanese appeal thingy in the PS store.

Yeah, would be neat.

in other news, you gotta love how stupid you can actually be in GT5. And yes, that's a pic I made:

Quote from TiJay :
Coleus: What job do you have, some kind of sales/account management? What you described (travelling, meeting clients etc) also seems intriguing but it seems difficult to find a job which involves driving simply because one wouldn't know where to start looking.

I have two jobs actually.
My day job is being the PR guy for an association of organisations for people with disabilities, which involves driving around to meet up members and journalists and attending to meetings in various, changing places.

my other job is taking care of youth, learning and doing spare time activities, which again, takes a lot of driving getting to them and for the various activities.

Quote from Crashgate3 :So he fancied being cooped up in an even smaller room for 16 hours a day instead?

That man speaketh the truth!

While not having a "driving job" per se, I do have to drive about 500 km per week for my job (commuting not included, which is another 300).
And even though I do enjoy driving and especially enjoy driving long trips (like from my place to hamburg in one go, which was 1100 km), driving for a living takes the joy out of it and is just tedious. A nice office chair and a window is much better than any car.

Quote from dawesdust_12 :It's not body repair, it's chassis restrengthening. I haven't noticed a difference, so I haven't done it at all.

Well I did notice it on my countach with more than 100.000 km on it. But the effect is very subtle, the car is just easier to upset.

Also, the 100.000 Credits repair fee (for that car) is a tad overblown for half the second you can go round a track faster

I suspect Homefront will be utter bollocks. I agree with your coworker that it's just a very generic FPS.

I'd rather buy Battlefield 3, or even better, Red Orchestra: Heroes of Stalingrad, once they are out.

Nope. Vegas is shit, it has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. TH both in Sp and MP sucks, the gameplay is shitty.

But to make it more clear: r6 was my favourite game series up to Ravenshield. after that, it got downhill and is a shadow of it's former self.

I always missed out on Assassins creed, and that alone is IMHO worth the 13 Euros.
Call of Juarez and Far Cry are both solid shooters I did enjoy plaing at a friends but never got to buy them.
Only "downside" is R6 Vegas 2. It's the only game in the mix I actually never played, because R6: Vegas was so bad already.

But hey, 13 bucks for 1 great, two good and one bad game? I'm in!

Quote from tristancliffe :I thought, being two Audis, that is was simply a pair of tits.

Rather a pair of cocks. TT drivers in my area recently turned out to be even worse than "regular" audi drivers. And with audi drivers becoming even greater pillocks than bmw drivers in the recent years, that says a lot.

Quote from S14 DRIFT :Haven't played it but I assume you can turn aim assist off, and it would not be any better than a skillful player, similar to what it is in COD..

The problem is that the Aim assist is activated by default. And it shouldn't be an option in a PC game right from the start.

Also, on startup, it prompts you to press "start" to begin.

I say it would be best to globally abolish the obsolete concepts of Nations and Religions.

That would sure solve a hell lot of problems.

But then, knowing humankind, I doubt it'll take long for us to exploit and/or kill each othern over something else.
