Core2Duo processors don't have hyper-threading on them. Hyper-threading was dropped after the Pentium4, and only since November 2008 where they introduced the (re-badged) Core i7 processor (Quad core), did they use it again.
Don't suppose that many people are using Core i7 processors yet. And if you're talking about that kind of speed to be running LFS, then who cares if you have multi-threaded applications anyway? It'll walk anything, pretty much, on a single core.
As I see it, the developers input on these forums is reactive, not proactive. That means that they only tend to provide information when there is enough whine about lack of information.
I have nowt against the devs, the game (which is the best sim by far), or anything as such, but just saying that it would be nice to see proactive responses instead of reactive.
Perhaps suitability for entry to the server could be decided by answering a number of questions, for example:
- Name five items that Swizzle Matlow made in the 80s.
- How many REAL LIFE CARS have you owned?
- Do you know what a Mk.1 Escort smells like?
- Where is your CB, and when did you last use it?
Maybe some of you might see where I was going with this
If my business was put in the same positions as these teams, that is; those who didn't initially get invited to the 2010 season, but were asked to sit in a reserve list; I think at this point, I would feel like I was just being used as an FIA pawn, to try and threaten the other teams into signing a contract.
I fully understand why these teams might pull out in this sense, because why would I want my business to compete in a championship where I was always second best, before I even put a car on the road?
I for one, am quite happy about the breakaway reality. No doubt, it would be tough to form a new series in six months or so, but these teams have people that have been in the sport for so many years, collectively there is just as much - if not more - knowledge about the sport than those running the FIA.
In other slightly related news, I loved Ecclestone's interview this morning with the BBC:
"I haven't seen a press release from FOTA"
"I know nothing"
"There is no issue"
"I don't understand why there are issues"
"Speak to the FIA and Max Mosley, I know nothing"
Amusing, but also alarming. Is this guy really doing business like this? For real? What is he playing at? How is he even allowed to walk around in the F1 paddock without a load of pre-managed answers in his head? I think he's starting to show his senility, big time.
watching the northampton weather, looks like so far saturday could be a bit wet. but it appears to be changing all the time. i'd love a dry race at silverstone this year, but wet is so much more entertaining!
So what you're saying is that you want Ferrari to be fastest again, just like they were for years and years and years. Yeah, because that's interesting. Pfffffffffff.
Also, why are the Brawn cars awful, exactly? Everything points to the fact that they are quite obviously not awful.
Maybe you should engage your brain before using a keyboard.
Did anyone else see what Valentino Rossi managed to do in a rally car last season in the Wales Rally GB? Sure, it was for charity, but he managed an 11th place or something, and seeing as he's obviously most talented at riding fast bikes, it just goes to show that if you have a talent, it can translate to many things.
Speculating that because x or y hasn't proven themselves in open wheelers and therefore isn't capable of doing well in F1 is mighty blinkered. I don't doubt that there are some awesome WTCC / BTCC / Superbikes / Moto GP / WRC drivers / riders out there that could post respectable times in an F1 car, given the opportunity.
I'm confused. On the BBC news ticker, it says "Williams suspended from FOTA", yet I can't find an article related to it. Anyone else got any news on that?
As stated in an interview with Mr. Newey on the BBC the other day, and after Eddie Jordan was basically licking his arse out (goddamn, I hate EJ with passion), Newey is just one of a team of what he said are the best dynamicists and designers in the business. Everybody says "Newey this" and "Brawn that", but they didn't craft the cars by themselves.
No doubt, they know how to work in a team, but two men working alone do not make the world's best Formula One cars.
Not too easily done in Switzerland, is it? I thought the cops chops your fingers off if you get caught speeding once? I was going to to go to Interlaken later this year in my MG, and was reading advice about driving in Schweiz. It's not a place for a pedal heavy racer
Re, the S2000 - you say it's not that quick, but sure as hell it's quicker than the Mx5. Does the Mx5 handle better on corners? I think it does. That for me, would be the decider.
In 2005 BAR had a two race ban imposed on them for having a hidden fuel tank. Compare that pre-meditated cheating and lying to McLaren's reactionary lying, it's quite different.
This is the right outcome, but I still feel that comparatively the decision was still too harsh. The only reason their ban was suspended was because people got sacked and someone wrote a letter of apology. I'd like to know what BAR did to only get a two race ban, because sure as hell the whole team knew about the hidden fuel tank.
Of course, they all weigh exactly the same! Of course!!!
See the thing is, nobody apart from the teams know how much the cars really weigh with no fuel at all. We can make a good calculation, based on weight at the start of the race offset against the point they have their first pit stop, but even then they could pit with 6 laps in the tank.
I wonder how much race pace lap difference all the KERS crap makes. I'd wager that it's very close to the cusp of being useless.
Well, Bernie said there will be three new teams in 2010. If the recent rumblings are anything to go by, that would be Lola, Aston Martin ... and who else?
Too many early mornings! Be so glad when the season moves to Europe!
Hamilton did very well, but going off his last race, I fear that his tires aren't going to last. I suspect that he'll be quick in the first half of the race, and lose pace in the second half due to tire conservation. What this means in race conditions, your guess is as good as mine.
I'm not sure that I understand the Renault tactics for free practice. They seemingly run an awful car until quali, at which point they return to their tried and tested setup and do really well. Well, Alsonso does at least.
What is going on with Piquet? Not sure that he's got long left in F1. Same goes for Bourdais.
