What router do you have? I'm sure we can help set it up for you. You could even turn on remote administration and one of us could set up the correct port forwarding for you.

Sound like we're all agreed. Aston National it is. I'm erring towards normal config as apposed to reversed. Feels wierd going anti-clockwise

Quote from CELTIC100 :Just picked up on this, I'll have to dust the FOX down though and lube her up lol

I don't think any of us need to know what you and your girlfriend get up to in your spare time.

Glad to hear that she's a fox though.

Thanks Nigel.

What does everyone think about Aston National or reversed?

One of the best public servers when I first started playing LFS ran FOX there and it made for some good racing and lots of racers. Not a typical GFC track but I think it'll still work.

What do you think and are there any other suggestions? I don't want to go to any of the Kyoto layouts and Blackwood was one of the last races we did so don't really wanna go back there either.

Nice response guys - great to see so many of you are still about.

I think there's enough interest here to start getting something organised. I'll also PM all the gentlefoot.com forum members and see if anyone else is up for it.

Will update when I have more info.

Hi all,

Was driving to a clients this morning listening to some music and thinking how it would sit with some GFC footage and it got me thinking about a re-union event again.

My business finally seems to be establishing itself and I'm very busy these days which is why I've never organised anything. But then I thought, all I need to do is pick a date and track and make a post here and see who's still about and interested in competing. That's assuming I don't get too competitive and start wanting to spend hours on improving my lap times and set up. But that's my problem

So if you are interested in competing in a GFC style event in the next month or two please make a post here and I'll arrange something.

If you don't know what the GFC is then visit www.gentlefoot.com. If you visit the forum you can see all the history of the event.

I'm gonna have a read of the post race reports later myself and reminisce.

Quote from gezmoor :Buyin S/H computers is dodgy enough. S/H Laptops? I wouldn't go near one unless I knew the person selling personally and knew the history of the Laptop. Doesn't take much in the way of mistreatment to break a Laptop. At the very least you should get your hands on it to check it out, before handing over any money.

If you buy a second hand laptop from us we offer a free 6 month warranty.

Quote from Jakg :No offence but those prices are really really bad - the Compaq 110C you can get for £179.99 in CPW stores (£120 less than you have it for). The CQ61 can be had for £30 less in PCW / Curry's and has a Intel Pentium T4300 rather than the Celeron, and more RAM / bigger HDD...

No offence taken. That's why I said I could do a deal for LFSers.

Obviously I cannot compete on price with the likes of PC World and Curry's and I don't try. People buy from me for the expert advice and post sales services I offer, not because of the prices.

Having said that in a week or two I should be bringing some new suppliers on line which should bring my prices close to that of the big retailers.

You won't need to format the existing hard drive. You will need to install the chipset drivers for the board though.

Quote from JDMKING20 :ok thats all i was worried about because i have important stuff on my hdd that i need and no other pc to use to get the data off because my hdd being Sata and my old dell is only IDE.. Thanks for the feedback

You can get the data off that other HD using a cable you can buy that provides a power supply to the hard drive and data connection to a USB which you can connect to another machine and copy the data over.

Something like this - http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130517 - although you can get better ones that work with SATA too.

Quote from Loose Cannon :My AMD XP2800 cpu based system is struggling to deliver 10-50 fps in lfs and its all too juddery when other cars are around. I could improve the graphics card but I dont think it will help much because of the maxed out cpu. I have been looking at getting a new system and came across the following deal at Overclockers UK for £420.
It seems like a good buy to me but I would appreciate any feedback on whether it is a reasonable spec system for Lfs, GPL etc.
I do not want to spend more than this right now.

CPU AMD Athlon II X2 Dual Core 245 2.90GHz
Cooler AMD Black Edition Approved CPU Cooler
Card ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB GDDR3
Hard Drive Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache
Memory Kingston HyperX 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 6400C4 800MHzD
Dual Channel
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2P nForce 430 PCI-Express DDR2
Motherboard
Optical Drive LG GH22NS30 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter
Power Supply Corsair CX 400W ATX Power Supply
Sound Card High Definition 7.1 OnBoard Sound Car

Sounds like a software related problem. That spec should be able to deliver 50FPS no problem at all.

I have an old PC with 1.2Ghz single core, 512Mb RAM and low end GC and it manages 30 FPS.

Quote from anttt69 :I'm looking for a used lapy with good enuf onboard graphics to run bf2 & LFS of course on low/med settings.

I have heard that ati x1400 mobile chip is capable & also the 7300m & 8200m nvidia mobile offerings where can i find a list of compatible laptops?

Ebuyer are doing the Acer Extensa 5630EZ with Pentium T4300 2.1Ghz dual core and 2Gb RAM. Only 160GB hard disk but that isn't a problem for most people. It was available for only £329.99 but I couldn't see it when I just checked.

Alternatively have a look at this site:

www.laptops-for-sale.co.uk

If you see something you like then maybe we can do a deal for a fellow LFSer.

We also have some new stock coming in from China in the new year which should enable us to offer extremely competitive prices.

I suggest getting down Snetterton and doing some testing mate

How long does it take you to change top gear ratio or final drive?

My reason for only playing LFS one night in 3 months is not to do with the game. It's just that I have achieved what I wanted to achieve in sim racing and I no longer gain the satisfaction from it that I used to.

I think this is down to my experiences in sprint racing in a rather fast mk 2 golf and also some seat time in a 125cc 2-stroke 6-geared kart that has 40hp and weighs only 80kgs - now that really is a buzz!

Another reason is the way graphics have moved on. Even the old favourite GT Legends knocks spots off LFS graphics wise. And the next Gran Turismo is likely to look very impressive.

I really need to see a big jump forward in LFS graphics before I come back to the game more often.

Having said all that, for a racer that is just starting to play LFS there is a hell of a lot that can be learned in terms of racecraft and the process of setup improvement and testing. This knowledge really does transfer into the real world if said individual ever has the chance to compete in real life racing.

So in summary, LFS is still a fantastic learning tool and a great deal of fun for at least a year or two.

Toyota have announced their withdrawal from F1 at end of 09. So that means BMW get their place back which can only be good news seeing as Toyota has had 8 years in F1 with one of the biggest budgets and never even managed a single win.

I can only say I'm disappointed with the way this thread has gone. I can never imagine someone like Sir Ross saying such things.
Does the Queen watch F1?

I wonder if the Queen watches F1. If she does then maybe it'll be Sir Ross next year. He definately deserves it IMO.

Steering feeling light and floppy is usually caused by a lack of front rebound.

Oversteer while braking can be caused by the following things:

Not enough diff coast lock;
too much rear brake bias;
not enough front bump;
not enough front ARB;
not enough rear rebound;

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :GP Manager 2 is great, it deserves a modern version of it with some decent graphics. I would like a game that allowed you to manage a racing team properly, being able to run cars in different championships and develop cars. My favourite part of GP Manager Pro was making the pictures of my cars, people kept using my design as their own at one point. Sadly I can't find them, my account is still active but they have changed the games since I played.

EDIT: Having issues with the wing32.dll, I copied it into my system32 folder and made sure I'm running in 256 colours but it still says it can't find wing32.dll.

EDIT EDIT: I sorted the problem, if you're running 64bit Vista like I am you need to put the wing32.dll file in the SysWOW64 folder rather than the system32 folder. I'm actually more interested in finding a copy of Grand Prix World, I remember playing a demo of it ages ago and it was quite good.

I guess it's just us then - not too many replies to this thread Nice info for 64bit Vista users there.

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :I used to play it under the name Brytech GP and I found it was a bit too easy and got boring very quickly.

Try this:

http://www.abandonia.com/en/ga ... Grand+Prix+Manager+2.html - GP Manager 2

I played this as Jordan (semi-pro) level and it was suitably challenging. Very limited funds and as it's based in 1996 you need to be in the top 6 for any points at all.

You might need to copy wing32.dll into your windows/system32 folder and change your display settings to 256 colours as it's an old DOS game. Use "List All Modes" in the advanced settings if you don't get shown the 256 colours option.

It's a great little game this, very addictive and as I say, it takes a while to suss out how to get results.
