What router do you have? I'm sure we can help set it up for you. You could even turn on remote administration and one of us could set up the correct port forwarding for you.
What does everyone think about Aston National or reversed?
One of the best public servers when I first started playing LFS ran FOX there and it made for some good racing and lots of racers. Not a typical GFC track but I think it'll still work.
What do you think and are there any other suggestions? I don't want to go to any of the Kyoto layouts and Blackwood was one of the last races we did so don't really wanna go back there either.
Nice response guys - great to see so many of you are still about.
I think there's enough interest here to start getting something organised. I'll also PM all the gentlefoot.com forum members and see if anyone else is up for it.
Was driving to a clients this morning listening to some music and thinking how it would sit with some GFC footage and it got me thinking about a re-union event again.
My business finally seems to be establishing itself and I'm very busy these days which is why I've never organised anything. But then I thought, all I need to do is pick a date and track and make a post here and see who's still about and interested in competing. That's assuming I don't get too competitive and start wanting to spend hours on improving my lap times and set up. But that's my problem
So if you are interested in competing in a GFC style event in the next month or two please make a post here and I'll arrange something.
If you don't know what the GFC is then visit www.gentlefoot.com. If you visit the forum you can see all the history of the event.
I'm gonna have a read of the post race reports later myself and reminisce.
No offence taken. That's why I said I could do a deal for LFSers.
Obviously I cannot compete on price with the likes of PC World and Curry's and I don't try. People buy from me for the expert advice and post sales services I offer, not because of the prices.
Having said that in a week or two I should be bringing some new suppliers on line which should bring my prices close to that of the big retailers.
You can get the data off that other HD using a cable you can buy that provides a power supply to the hard drive and data connection to a USB which you can connect to another machine and copy the data over.
Ebuyer are doing the Acer Extensa 5630EZ with Pentium T4300 2.1Ghz dual core and 2Gb RAM. Only 160GB hard disk but that isn't a problem for most people. It was available for only £329.99 but I couldn't see it when I just checked.
My reason for only playing LFS one night in 3 months is not to do with the game. It's just that I have achieved what I wanted to achieve in sim racing and I no longer gain the satisfaction from it that I used to.
I think this is down to my experiences in sprint racing in a rather fast mk 2 golf and also some seat time in a 125cc 2-stroke 6-geared kart that has 40hp and weighs only 80kgs - now that really is a buzz!
Another reason is the way graphics have moved on. Even the old favourite GT Legends knocks spots off LFS graphics wise. And the next Gran Turismo is likely to look very impressive.
I really need to see a big jump forward in LFS graphics before I come back to the game more often.
Having said all that, for a racer that is just starting to play LFS there is a hell of a lot that can be learned in terms of racecraft and the process of setup improvement and testing. This knowledge really does transfer into the real world if said individual ever has the chance to compete in real life racing.
So in summary, LFS is still a fantastic learning tool and a great deal of fun for at least a year or two.
Toyota have announced their withdrawal from F1 at end of 09. So that means BMW get their place back which can only be good news seeing as Toyota has had 8 years in F1 with one of the biggest budgets and never even managed a single win.
I'm still playing GP Manager Pro and still enjoying it. Thought I might be bored by now but am still enjoying seeing how I got on in the race each day.
I played this as Jordan (semi-pro) level and it was suitably challenging. Very limited funds and as it's based in 1996 you need to be in the top 6 for any points at all.
You might need to copy wing32.dll into your windows/system32 folder and change your display settings to 256 colours as it's an old DOS game. Use "List All Modes" in the advanced settings if you don't get shown the 256 colours option.
It's a great little game this, very addictive and as I say, it takes a while to suss out how to get results.
