30fps is more than bareable, lol ... anywho, its not quantity but quality that matters, my cheapy Samsung laptop has 128Mb dedicated so I'm surprised a Powerbook would be available so lowly specced.
No, but think of the mentality of the kind of people who would pinch skins - they want to feel big about themselves, big manly hairy men with muscles the size of anvils ... something like Desperate Dan only more rugged. Feining being gay flies in the face of that ...
Are we talking about truck racing, or have a missed a season of Diesel F1 cars somehow?
You can build torque into a petrol engine by using a longer stroke and smaller bore (amongst other things) without too much trouble but its a bitch getting a diesel engine to rev. Plus they smell bad, headgaskets are a PITA, bleeding the fuel system is a ballache, they make the oil go all yukky and they smoke after comparatively few miles.
The cleanest fuel (environmentally) for internal combustion is Propane (aka LPG), with lower toxic emissions accross the board. But its not suitable for use in smaller low-torque engines.
To quote Top Gear, when talking about a fancy Audi, "there's a diesel version too, if you're the sort of person who thinks the Mona Lisa would look good with a beard"
Diesels have their place, and its not in performance cars.
That about sums it up these days, its roots are in good motorsport though. Also, Nascar run more than the Nextel races, there's stuff going down to dirt 1/4 mile bullring racing (like the 'late model' stuff covered in iracing).
Did anyone suggest that? Someone mentioned that they now do extensive wind tunnel testing, but thats about it. At least they can overtake each other, when was the last time an F1 race had cars side-by-side on the last lap, or a photo finish?
As for saying the cars are 2nd rate, you should see what going into making a V8 rev to 9000rpm for 500 miles, it may not involve microchips, but there's sound engineering going into increasing the longevity and charactersitics of the engines.
Vain - If there's no justification for racing besides technology, why bother? War improves technology far better than racing. The less technology in a racecar, the better the racing gets; do you really not want to watch historic race/rally/dragsters? Do you not enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of a piece of machinery that was driven to its limits over 30 or 50 years ago? If not I really feel sorry for you, because thats missing out on the best part of racing there is.
Moving with the times is one thing, but if its the only thing (as seems to be with F1) I have no passion for it.
I'm still using my XBox 1 controller, all default settings in LFS, seperate axis for accellerator/brake (using the triggers), it works well as at the mo I'm just using a laptop on my lap! No problem with dead zones, I adjusted myself to the sensitivity rather than vica versa, which took a little practise
That would be great, in Nascar the cars overtake each other ... on the track, and more than once in a race! Okay, I'm not into the new COT Nascars, but still, its better
Surely the pinacle of motorsport should be pitting men and machines against each other - most technology appears to remove the driver from the act of driving to a greater or lesser degree; put a current F1 driver into a pre-aero F1 car (on crossplies!) and see how much talent they have ...
Seriously though, F1 has been a snorefest for many a year, I don't think a lack of TC will make a huge difference in that ... though I bet when they run in the wet you'll see some funny spins
They weren't disqualified in the past, just not allowed to finish the stage ... sounds right to me, a car can't run without a rollcage, so surely inviting an accident by continuing to drive a seriously broken car should logically be against the rules.
The WRC has been going downhill for a long time though ...
20,000 rpm Karts?! Anywho, the new sounds are good
Lack of feedback is no problem, I've been surprised how much feel there is from FFB in LFS, certainly better than any other sim I've tried. Particulary in the cars above demo level.
Unless you've cracked the game, you wouldn't know about the tracks ... several of the SO courses are tight (more than two accross isn't feasable), and hilly enough for it to be a factor ...

Anyway, the reason I plumped for LFS is that its tightly written (there's no extra crap thats not needed), as well as the other good points listed earlier ... its like a modern version of "Car and Driver" (1992) that came on 2 discs and was 100% sim
