Thats the 'Tesla' car

Anywho, the cars with hub motors will have a buttload of unsprung weight, which will make the handling 'interesting'. This could be interesting as an exercise, but I find it hard to be enthusiastic over racing cars that are environmentally unsound.

Quote from jamesrowe :Ahem, erm why was it that Britain once had one of if not the largest car manufacturer in the world? We use to lead the world in cars once! We are more than capable of doing it again!

BMC and the Rootes group never made more cars than GM, or Ford before them

That would run LFS very well, read what I wrote above and compare the specs yourself

I'm not a fan of Dell notebooks, having had to replace the motherboard on a whole batch kinda put me off ... they're usually a good spec for the money though.

If I had a WR I would

No similarity in the bugs to Pitch Black's ones at all! Starship Troopers was /meant/ to be cheesy, thats part of the charm.

I recon it influenced Halo 1, in the human's ships/guns/uniforms etc.

The value of money isn't linear, you need to check what prices are over there - basically you want to have graphics with dedicated memory, even if the rest is entry level that will ensure that LFS is at least playable.

If you can afford it get a Sony - they come with loads of crap installed, but the hardware is good quality. If on a budget, check out Samsungs. Try to steer clear of HPs and Acers, I don't personally like Toshibas but some people do.

If you can afford it get a dual-core processor, graphics with 128Mb or more dedicated memory and 1Gb or more of Ram. Unfortunately laptops are pricey, so if you can live with a full size PC you can get more machine for your money

I went chugging round some of the alternative servers last night - there's some fun to be had if you're feeling too frazzled for racing or whatever Sometimes I like to just go burn some rubber; the same goes with sim driving too ...

Sometimes if joining a full STCC server I miss the message and can't remember if the session was closed or if I just hadn't clicked the button ... thats a case of not paying attention, rather than illiteracy
At risk of liking LFS too much?

Quote from ATC Quicksilver :What Al Gore does so well in the film is ...

... not tell you how much he spends heating his 11,000 square foot mansion, or how much fuel he's burnt up flying accross the Atlantic in his personal jet.

Want to decrease carbon emissions? Seriously? Get Osama Bin Laden to destroy some more aeroplanes; if people were too scared to fly, it would cut human's CO2 creation by a big chunk. Want to save natural resources? Have all car factories destroyed and force everyone to re-use old cars instead of just throwing them away (compared to a car, a PC is environmentally insignificant). Hybrid cars are twice as evil, not only do they use a bunch of resources and energy to make, they're too complex to be serviceable, require regular battery changes and have a limited lifespan.

I figured I'd take it for a laugh, this was one of the questions:

41. I would really like to have more success with women and dating and would be interested to learn about the "secret psychology" of attraction and specific techniques that guys who are successful with women use.

- Yes! I'd love to receive free information that teaches me how to be more successful with women from DoubleYourDating.com

- No thanks, I'm already successful with women and dating

By purposefully answering everything wrong I managed to score 75, this is a 100% bs test

ok, put it this way, a stock auto will have a 1K TC and very low line pressure. A stock auto is a very lossy system thats made for comfort - how many racecars use OEM clutches and stock gearsets? Take a Chrysler 727 Torqueflite auto (as found in the likes of Aston Martins, Bristols, Jensens etc etc), add a performance drum setup, up the line pressure, aftermarket trans cooler, performance 2800rpm stall convertor, and you have something that will come off the line like a screaming banshee, shift positively, and take the Lion's share of 1000hp.

Most cars up to Super Stock use autos, go above that and you're likely to see Lencos (which bare little relation to a regular manual trans - they have a transbrake and everything). A Super Stock car needs to come off the line reliably to hit the bracket ET right - doing that with a regular manual trans is very difficult, especially when you need a Swartznegger sized leg to control a clutch that can take the power they're putting out.

Torque convertor wouldn't be hard to model unless you factored in overheating. Old autos can be fitted with a manual shift body too, so you shift up and down similar to a sequential but its a very different driving experience

Quote from Woz :An auto tranny is far more complex than you think. You have to model the power takeup through the slush box how it eats the power, the delays in response, changing gear when you don't want it to, the down change on kickdown only to change back again with a jolt 2 seconds later.

Auto gearboxes are not good for the track. If the time was taken to do them right it would be a waste. People would drive it once and say "yep, autos are crap" and switch back to manual.

And yet LFS has a drag strip.

Sounds like you really don't like Autos ... I've had a few, did grasstracking with one and it was cracking (Renault 5 Turbo I); not had any issues with slow response, kickdown working then changing back again, or unhealthy power consumption. If those are the problems you've had with a car you owned then the box probably beeded a rebuild or adjusting properly  Of course BMC autos were crap, so if it was an Auto Mini thats understandable!

Quote from thisnameistaken :That's about the only exception though.

Not really, when I was using the old Shelby as a daily driver I hit 120 on the way to work, and 140 on the way back on any day it was dry - quiet straight-ish B roads with nothing either side, no problem I don't like doing that kinda speed on the motorway unless its 3am with no other vehicles in sight!

As for the Veryon - its ugly and not the fastest, most powerful, quickest or most luxurious production car; it's a compromise, a very very expensive compromise. For what it costs you could get cars that beat it in each of it's strengths.

Yeah, in LFS having an auto should enable you to choose the convertor stall speed, and be limited to less gears in total ... perhaps that would make it unfair on the manuals though, 'cause if you fit a 5K convertor most any car would fly off the line (players with clutch pedals notwithstanding ).
