Quote from lizardfolk :I've always hated IRL racing tbh. Only 1-3 cars in position for the lead? Boo. Nothing compared to NASCAR/ARCA/USAR's 20+ fighting for one position. Might as well have raced on road courses. At least that would have kept it interesting

but their cars are gay~
have to wait till 2010 for the new car to see if things improve...

Quote from scania :Indy car also have road coruse before, it only got oval race now because there are 2 top class formula race(IRL & CCWS) in U.S., CCWS race in road coruse & street, so IRL race in Oval, it make they can have a different market.

Than, don't try to think that oval race is a silly things, any very simple action will changh to very difficle when you driving faster than 350km/h & there is just 0.5m between you & another car.

get the history straight, it was called CART... then split into Champcar (which later becomes CCWS), and IRL~

IRL also have a couple of road/street courses on its calendar, namely Watkin Glens and St Petersburg~ (does it still race on Infenion~?)

Open wheel oval racing is silly, there've been a few absoblutely dreadful and terrible deaths in recent years, one of which doesn't find its way on TV because it was way too sick to be shown on TV...

Quote from lizardfolk :CCWS was a better series competition wise. IRL's racing was closer but that was only because it was on ovals and as far as oval races goes IRL's competition was pretty weak. But CCWS was close to bankruptcy as I was told so this was probably inevitable.

and IRL has more of the big teams...
such as Gannasi, Andretti Racing, Penske... but the racing was boring and crap... and dangerous...

Quote from 5haz :Bizzare in more ways that one :P

Its a disasterous situation now, this hasnt been a 'merger', CCWS has simply been forced to die! There really needs to be some major changes to IRL before it becomes a half decent attempt at American Open wheel racing, a new chassis needs to be developed, preferrably allowing the teams to quite extensively customise their cars, more roadcourses need to be implemented, such as those over here (Brands Hatch, Assen etc), and also standing starts and racing in the rain (on roadcourses only ofcourse!).

IMO the so called 'merger' couldnt have come at a worse time, if it had happened back in 2003 when Champ car wasnt doing so well, it wouldnt have been sad to se Champ Car go, but CCWS was just becoming a half decent series.

Tony George said in an interview he wants to keep the calendar mostly ovals... which is crap~

this is not good for the fans nor was it good for the sport... CCWS was starting to really become a "world series" in terms of drivers and circuits used, what it needed was more exposure...

at least CCWS was considered by Red Bull to be perfect to dump their extra drivers that ain't young anymore~ now they've no where to go~

Quote from ajp71 :That's precisely my point, the teams have the new car that they're only going to use for one race, they still have to setup and test it, which is inevitably going to run into a 7 figure bill. At the same time they've got to go through the same process with the new IRL car they've ordered.

what new car~? the Champcar teams have been using the new car for an year...

"merger" my bottom...
this is more a case of IRL taking over Champcar... ><

I always liked Champcar way more than IRL, but at the end of the day, the really rich guy is Tony George...

stuff 2008 America open wheel racing, they're going to be using those ugly Panoz and race on ovals 70% of the time... what I do hope is they get rid of some of the ovals, bring back the brilliant Champcar road courses, and use the Champcar chasis/engine/push-to-pass for road/street courses, as well as their standing start~!

and why Surfers Paradise has to be a non-championship event in 2008~? =.="

Quote from tonix :Isn't de la Rosa still a Mclaren test driver? So they're a practically aimed against their driver's team.

or perhaps they probably forgot the existence of Pedro, or are angry that Pedro didn't get promoted to become a race driver~

FIA has given a harsh warnings that they would not accept such behaviour and if it continues, the worst case scenario would be the Spannish GP might be cancelled~

Quote from MR_B :Maybe, but looking at the facts here, 5 people have died in the past decade, in Formula One no one has been killed.

Dale Earnhardt at Daytona, February 18, 2001 (Daytona 500)
Tony Roper at Texas Motor Speedway, October 13,2000
Kenny Irwin at Louden, New Hampshire, July 7, 2000
Adam Petty at Louden, New Hampshire May 12, 2000
John Nemechek at Homestead, Florida in 1997

If a formula one chassis was to have a crash on these American oval circuits, how would the vehicle fair? Is it fair to say they would have a higher survival rate than nascar?

I would have thought so, especially considering a NASCAR chassis is merely a tubular space frame :-\

and how many years has it been since 2001~?

Quote from samjh :I've so far managed to shave off a consistent 1-0.5s off the lap time, just by tweaking the diff settings. There is still more room to tweak it, so I'm expecting under 1:38s once the diffs are right.

Then I'll work on suspension and drive ratios.

You're right, setup makes quite a difference, unlike some other racing games.

don't forget to play around with the wings too, there're instant seconds to be have there...

I forgot what're the wings setting on race_s, but I think it's pretty high~?

Quote from Woz :+1

NZ is also full of cupid stunts that believe its fine to drift on the public highway.

We have some hill roads with no barrier protection and when another *unt goes off most just think natural selection at work

I like the ones where they can fall straight off into the Pacific Ocean / Tasman Sea~

Have you watch thsi spr? Please shut up before you whatch it, & I'll wellcome to back after you have watch it (very weak English.....)
ya, He also use Hand Brake, just like FR Drift, but I don't think he is use hand brake to drag the arse. he just using the speed, inertia & brake to make the car slide(or drift) on the true line. The HB is just use for make the drift longer, just like RWD Drift.

why don't u shut up and get the physic side of things sorted out first...

the main difference, in a FF all you can do is to set up a car to have it sliding around like hell and most of the time use the handbrake to drag the ass out... the car is pretty much continuously losing momentum, which is ok if u've got a tightening corner or a short corner or whatever... but no matter what in a FF "drift" all u do is to lose momentum...

but if the corner is long and is straightening at the exit u'd need a FR to drift PROPERLY... for basic reasons which I hope u should've known...

ooh, and can you please define your defintion of what is a "slide" and what is a "drift"~?

Quote from Jakg :He recently admitted he did it for Tax Reasons and NOT because of the media.

I thought it was a bit of both~?
surely he didn't move all the way to Switzeland just because of tax... it can be a major contributing factor through~

PS. on this topic, I'm sick of the media, especially British one, for going crazy about LH... it's hardly his fault...

Spain were all crazy about Alonso too, just that what they wrote were in Spannish and most of us won't have a clue about what's being written and thus chose to ignore it...
but surely Alonso would've made the news in Spain just as often as Lewis did in GB...

Quote from dawesdust_12 :That's the silly bits, left foot braking on my actual road test = death, so it's atleast in my interest to sorta kill my mind long enough to get my full licence, then I can come up with a ton of poor habits/creative methods for driving.

sue them for discriminating your left foot~!

at least someone made that offer, genuine or not I'm not sure~ lol

obviously FIA and McLaren has some sort of discussions going on, probably something along the line of:
We're totally stuffed by everyone on earth after the penalty, or rather the lack of it, for the Renault spying case. So we would like to close all the spying cases down if you can offer to the world some sort of apologies, then we can move on and enjoy a nice Christmas and New Year with nothing to worry about...

Quote from MAGGOT :I think that refers mostly to most corners being sharper and the track being narrower. It makes it much more interesting to drive, especially for slower cars.

I thought he was also refering that most cars can take that chicane at nearly full throtle (if not at full throtle) before, but now since they're entering it at a higher speed and a tighter radius, some lifting and braking might be needed~?

I just had a thought, do those Porsche Supercups cars run on H-shifters or sequential~?

I thought the FZR was "trying" to be in a way similar to these, so perhaps that explains why~

same old torrents site, I hope u know where these are~
or hopfully V8 Supercars official website will have some sort of very brief highlights, for free... or you can watch the full race on there by paying I don't know how much...

and on that topic, Dale Earnhardt Jnr was at Phillips Island, and he made some interesting comments afterwards, something along the line of:
How technologically advanced these teams are operating at is beyond believe, their computer systems can do so many different things and the data acquisition system were truly mind blowing, and we never get to mess around with the fuel injection system in NASCAR, but they can~!

anyhow I will try locate the interview now~ XD

the two possible solutions I was hoping for didn't happened... =(

1). sideline Alonso for a year. But McLaren probably can't afford that with their 100million penalty...

2). sell Alonso off to another team. At least McLaren would earn a few millions, but apparantly Alonso is free to go...

Quote from evilgeek :well i'm a bit late joining the party, but that was TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!! it couldn't have gone better if i'd scripted it myself. the ferrari's completely destroy the field, and hamilton chokes. if he'd been taken out by someone else we never would have heard the end of it, but he choked, choked, choked, two races in a row, and he can't blame anyone but himself for losing the championship.

my only regret is that massa had to give up the win at his home race. he didn't look terribly pleased about it, but on the other hand, he's not whining like a baby about it either. can't wait for next year!

on the Massa part
1). he's not a crying baby like Alonso is~
2). it would've been stated in his contract somewhere not to whine about things like these, we know Ferrari...

I'm sure LH must be thinking again what he done wrong in China... that was just idiotic really, and now that cost him the championship..

Also, I've always been a Tracy fan; the two of them are mortal enemies :P

or perhaps only cos I still remembered what happened at one of the Canadian round last year...
