Quote from The Moose :Well, it's ok if you can stomach that complete cock James Allen talking shite for two hours. and the obscene amount of advert breaks (3 in the first 20 laps yesterday)

The BBC loosing the coverage to ITV was a sad day for F1.

Yeah I know. James Allen is a fool. So is Steve Rider. Mark Blundell is a moron but the way he speaks is hilarious, there are some real gem lines of his. Martin Brundle's good though, he alone makes the coverage worth watching.

But it's still way better than Speed, much less FOX which Canada was on along with the next three races (Silverstone and Mangy-Cours won't even have live race coverage at all here). They only scheduled two hours for Canada so there was no build-up at all and they cut to golf just after the cars crossed the line. No interviews, nothing. It seems like FOX tries to **** with F1 and make it look as bad as possible - incomplete coverage, tape delay etc. In some ways it's competing with NASCAR so they're trying to kill it off, it seems.

EDIT: This forum censors language? That is lame.

Quote from _rod_ : Im still getting this in a few servers

So am I. Still.

I'd rather go back to W than deal with half the servers being inaccessible.

Fix soon?

Go to torrentspy.com and search for 'F1'. The user Darmeth there uploads the complete torrents of qualifying and the grands prix within several hours of broadcast. From ITV as well, which is nice since Speed sucks so much.

Here's qualifying from Montreal:
http://torrentspy.com/torrent/ ... V_UK_Eng_XviD_DaRmEtH_avi

And the grand prix:

If you don't have torrent software then get µTorrent.

Damn this error. It's preventing me from racing a 32-car grid of FO8s and FOXs, and I only have another hour to drive.

Quote from DeadWolfBones :Also getting it on the [DSR] server, which is nowhere near full, and NOT on the ConeDodgers servers, which are.

Yup exact same for me too. I guess it isn't to do with being nearly full.

Strange error.

I'm getting this too. Only on nearly-full servers though it seems.

I'm trying to connect to Gentlefoots Formula Racing right now but failing.

It was happening on another nearly-full server last night as well, but I could connect to other servers just fine.

Quote from wheel4hummer : He slammed on the brakes, which decelerated us fast enough that the kid flew all the way into the dashboard!

Someone should have told his fool ass to belt the kid in so such a thing would have been prevented.

Quote from MAGGOT :I'll probably buy a low-mileage Cavalier since it will be cheap, reliable enough, and cheap to repair compared to a german or japanese import.

How do you figure? In my experience late 90s-early 2000s Japanese cars like Honda and Toyota are built solid as hell and parts are as cheap as they come. I can't imagine parts for a Cavalier would be much cheaper than a late 90s Civic, of which there seem to be droves on the road these days.

This thread is now thoroughly off-topic.

Just installed W40 and got a 'could not connect to master server' error. Is this just unfortunate timing (i.e. the server is actually down) or did something mess up with the install?
MOMO Black Pedals Started Spiking Yesterday
Lateralus
S3 licensed
But work fine today.

How's that for strange?

Yesterday was the first time I've ever noticed any spiking in the pedals of my MOMO Black. The brake started staying on a little bit even when I was fully off of it. The throttle input was erratic. This is obviously unacceptable in a racing environment, which led me to believe the pedals were shot and I couldn't drive LFS until I got new ones.

I gave it another try this afternoon and both pedal inputs are nice and smooth. Any reason why this might have occured? Is it a sign they might be on their way out? Is there anything I can do to prevent it? Or anything I can do to fix them permanently if (once) they do eventually fail?

Quote from IceMan31x :I'm not sure if this has been started before. I just wanted to say thanks to the dev's for all the hard work and dedication. Lfs for me has turned into a lifestyle, which im sure it has for others as well. Lfs has to be the leading sim by far, but without the hard work from the dev's lfs would be just another sim... Thanks guys and looking forward to the future.

I don't think you put enough unneces'sary apostrophe's in your pos't. Put s'ome more in th'ere.

Thank's dev's.

So how do starts work when you're on a sloped grid? Will the car start rolling as soon as you drop in?

Quote from ajp71 :
IMO the very notion of racing at night on a floodlit track is a complete waste of time.

I disagree. It can't really harm the spectacle; at the very least it should make the cars look even cooler, especially the Mclaren.

Quote from chanoman315 :
so what will happen if a sudden, massive, blackout occurs?,

Backup generators. They'll plan for this; this isn't some fool backyard go-karting. There would not be total floodlight failure at an F1 race.

Try harder.

Quote from duke_toaster :
It would be afternoon in Europe.

:dunce: You're right, I meant to say towards primetime. As in, afternoon compared to 3 or 4 AM.

Quote from duke_toaster :
imagine that they would have to have their marker lights on, and maybe put headlights on the cars. If they have headlights, maybe they wouldn't need floodlights (LM24 isn't floodlit!). With the rear marker lights, I guess they could probably just use modified normal street lamps.

They won't put headlights on F1 cars. I'd put money on it.

The lighting will be specialized floodlights which will be custom-designed and installed for the specific needs of F1. Normal street lamps wouldn't cut it in a racing environment (at least the ones I'm used to seeing in the US).

Sports car races run at night are an entirely different animal than F1. I'd even hazard a guess that the main reason that races like Le Mans still run without full floodlighting is money. There's a lot less money in sports car racing, so it is thus harder to justify the expense of floodlighting a long circuit, and the teams have a lot less money to use toward satisfying complex regs passed to increase safety during night racing. Specifically, how would a Le Mans driver react to a situation like a deer running into the circuit in front of him? Headlights illuminate the road ahead but do a poor job illuminating stuff to the side. Traveling at 200+ mph doesn't leave much time for a driver to react. Floodlighting the entire circuit seems much much safer and thus something the FIA could justify doing.

Quote from ajp71 :Hadn't heard about this but it sounds like Max and Bernie's latest trivialisation of F1 plan

Jesus, could you please not turn this into another "OMG THEY'RE RUINING F1!!!!1" threads? Every F1 topic into forum seems to degenerate into that circle-jerkery. If you must shit all over a thread do it to one of the old ones.

Regarding the OP, it seems more likely that they would hold practice and qualifying sessions at a similar time to the GP itself. The teams would probably want it that way so the track conditions (air temperature especially) would be roughly similar to race conditions, and thus the data they gather would be more applicable to race situations.

The major reason Bernie wants night races in the east is so that they're live in primetime in Europe, so it would be logical to assume that he'd want all the GP sessions to be in primetime as well, assuming that were possible.

Then again, there might be significant logistical issues which would make an all-night weekend difficult. It's too early to say really. Once at least one GP is officially announced to be run at night we can start making some more concrete conclusions.

Quote from word. :The MRT has to be the most twitchy car in existance.

That's due to the setup you're using, not the car itself. The setupfield ones are especially bad. The one I use pretty much all the time has the suspension as soft as possible both front and rear. I can throw the car around hard and still keep it pointing in the right direction. Four-wheel slides through corners, countersteering oversteer, all that stuff I can handle no problem with this soft setup.

I used to spin the damn thing all the time because it was so oversensitive to steering input. Or the car would get unbalanced hitting a tiny bump which should not have affected it so much. Not anymore.

Quote from ajp71 :Well if you always have one box set what happens if someone else is in your box?

Pretty unlikely, considering how long most pit stops take. In the rare event such should happen, nothing would be preventing one from taking an alternate box.

Quote from ajp71 : no harder than stopping a car in a parking space, which surely anybody who has a driving license should be able to do?

I don't know about you, but I normally don't approach parking spaces at 80kph.

I'd just like something to aim at. Even just the lollipop man would suffice.

Quote from jschneider :Hi,

I have some troubles racing against the AI. I have bought LFS three days ago and did some races online on Aston Club.
But of course the others are too fast (about 3 seconds per lap). So I tried to race offline. But even with the AI set to Ace they are very, very slow (don't know the exact time - but several seconds a lap).
What did I do wrong? Any suggestions?

Or do you guys know some servers for noobs with short tracks, easy cars and great racing?

I learned much of my racecraft on Redline Racing 2, which runs the FOX on AS Club. Overall driver quality varies considerably throughout the day, but most of the time there are enough competents around to enable some good racing. The FOX is very forgiving, has loads of grip, and isn't very fast in a straight line so it's a good beginner car.

IMO the AI just isn't very useful for learning because they're so stupid. I would recommend doing a combo on your own until you know the apexes, braking points, shift points etc. and then go straight online to that combo.

Online racing is intimidating at first, but don't worry - you don't have to be quick to be a good online racer. Just keep it on the road, be predictable, and be clean. Don't worry about keeping up with the fastest guys just yet.
Virtual Pit Crew
Lateralus
S3 licensed
Would it be possible/feasible to add a virtual pit crew which appears to the driver (and no one else) when he enters the pitlane? I sometimes have a hard time picking a pit box because I don't have any way of differentiating them from one another. Since I can only see a mess of yellow lines over there, I just pick a random point to turn in and hope for the best. On a few occasions I've come in right between two pit boxes, so I have a choice: try to brake harder and grab the earlier box, or let off the brakes and coast into the later one. So I either miss the pit box entirely or waste time coasting to another one.

Perhaps give the player the ability to choose which box number 'his' pit crew appears in. Knowing I'm always box #8, for example, would be nice.

If I had something to 'aim' it would definitely help. Plus there should be an advantage to coming into one's pit box smoothly and accurately rather than sliding wildly in, barely making it inside the lines.

So of LFS's current carset, which should realistically require the use of a throttle cut to prevent engine damage? Surely at least the three formula cars normally flatshift?

I'd do a lot of public racing before seriously considering entering a league/championship. There's a lot you have to be familiar with to do well in a championship, some of which can only be gained with experience. Hell, I've had LFS for 9-10 months and I still don't consider myself ready for such a thing, even in the FOX which I'm most comfortable with.

The FOX is popular for public racing though so it usually isn't difficult to find a good server.

I haven't driven on this server enough but I should more because this combo is fantastic, thanks for hosting.

The FO8 was a handful when I started LFS but now I've got the hang of it OK and it's an amazing drive. Hanging it out around the corners all sideways like a big FOX and still going pretty fast is a great time.

and what was with the commentary (on Speed TV)? they sounded like they were drunk or something. totally disorganized. at one point somebody made engine/gear change sounds into the microphone, overtop the real car sounds, and at another they broke out into complete non-sensical bumbling. disgraceful.

They're like that all the time. Especially David Hobbs, that guy is a complete moron. Steve Matchett knows a good bit about the technical side but he can't commentate for the life of him. When he does his "C'MON PUSH IT!" grunting into the mike I want to strangle him.

All three SpeedTV commentators should be fired. They make that fool James Allen seem intelligent and dignified in comparison.
