Quote from MandulAA :Wow, sunset has a great feeling attached to it, well done. Love these 13-sec long snippets Smile One thing I noticed (as did lfsrm before me): the Sun seems to be in front of the clouds, but I guess this is on the to-do list already. Serious progress!

Transparency isn't much of a problem, but as I said making clouds following sun position in term of lightning is not as simple as it sound.

But I guess for Scawen those graphical improvement isn't much of a challenge compared to tyres physics. Tilt

Very promising, I heard some games now use normal map on clouds to simulate sun light volumetric diffuse on them, maybe it's worth investigate in the future.

Quote from Scawen :I do hope the new tyre physics can be released with the new graphics, otherwise I'll have to move a copy of the old physics into the new version. We are long past the point where the new graphical changes could be merged into the old version. Too much has changed.

Copying old physics into the new version is possible but it's not what I want to do.

At the moment I am trying to get the lighting to a reasonable state where it can be left for a while so i can sort out the tyre physics.

We do understand that Physics take time to refine, and I am sure that you will not be 100% satisfied about the new tyre physics stats when you release it, but there is patches after that and you will for sure improve it over time and just remember that we, as a player base for your game, will be still there to enjoy what you're doing for us. Indeed, demo server gave me some of the best races I've ever had in LFS.

IMO it was and still the best selling point for LFS.

I think the best thing to do after finishing the graphics and physics updates is to add some esport and social shit, like adding external spectating mode and some integrated streaming api, improved chat with emots or gif... at least those network gimmicks will be a piece of cake for scawen.
Tbh I am not into those heavy social trends, but if it can bring some life into our favorite sim, I say why not !

Quote from RC-Maus :Fortnite isn't on steam and look how many play fortnite Wave

I wish we had the same marketing budget...

IMO any solution that can boost LFS popularity is welcome, and steam happen to be one of them, there is GOG too the DRM free platform.

Quote from hereticlohani :Hello Friends,

I'm thinking about buying AC Ultimate Edition, which is available for sale on steam atm. Please advise if people are still very active on AC multiplayer, because I wouldn't want to find myself alone with no one to drive with. Will I be disadvantaged for only having the Ultimate Edition (which, I believe has DLC's up to the Ferrari Anniversary release, including the 2004 F1 Ferrari) and the Porsche dream pack?

I usually have some lag on LFS with a ping of about 180 ms, but it's stable at 5mbps. I wouldn't want to be kicked for lagging on AC or to not have fun because of too much lag. I won't be buying anything else beyond the Ultimate Edition. So, I'd like to know if it's worth getting the Ultimate Edition. It will cost me Rupees 2,500+, which isn't that much, but certainly not low enough to spare.

My system spec are as follows:
Lenovo Y510P
Core i7 4702 MQ @ 2.20Ghz - 3.2Ghz
nVidia GT755 SLI
8 GB Ram
Available HD space: 170 GB
Fibernet cable 5mbps with 80GB/month volume

I'll be driving with mouse and keyboard, by the way. If there were no multiplayer, I wouldn't buy it. So, go, or no go?

- You will have the ping problem as the majority of the servers are hosted in Europe.
- Yes the multiplayer is still active.
- Your system spec should do ok, between low-mid settings you will get 50-60 fps.

So the work with the shaders isn't done yet ? the result in the pictures isn't final ?

Quote from Eclipsed :best and easiest

It's very relative, and that's your personal opinion not a general rule, league hosters are doing just fine with other sim even if they don't offer the simplicity of LFS but price need to be payed for actual gameplay feature, I guess the more feature you have the more complexe is the server setup.

Every sim out there has something to offer, people are aware of that and that's why LFS is not their sim of choice anymore, maybe it will change in the far future with some big updates.

As for me LFS will never leave my hard driver until it dies, as for every worth simracing title worth my time.

Quote from Big Daddy :- games are actually for children -

Some games out there are really for adult audience, it's basically an interactive movie with story, much more interesting compared to the majority of last decade Hollywood trash and marvel bs movies etc, you should know that so you won't buy games with mature content for your childrens or grand childrens Wink.

Open your mind and don't let yourself caught in simplistic stereotype.

Superb work devs, clean and sharp looking graphics is how to make a sim look realistic.

Hopefully we'll get our hand on it by the end of this year.

Wow you went that far, for a first project it's really well done, bravo. Thumbs up

Do you think working for weak (like the switch) is platform less/more enjoyable than pc/psx/xbox exclusive projects ? or graphics fidelity make working on those platform more demanding ?

Nice to see some news about the graphical overhaul, I bet on Eric being motivated again and working harder on LFS when he see how good his work is rendred now ingame.

So now we have diffuse and glossy material, specular map and real time shadows ? is there any plan introducing normal maps into the game or some sorte of layering through RGB mask or similar technique for more varied textures ?

And one last stupid question : is developing/improving graphic engine more rewarding than physics coding ?

I deleted them long time ago sadly, they are useless now since most tracks are being or are updated, plus they don't look right from my point of view right now.

I will dig into my external HDD, maybe I have some lost copy there.

@Scawen now that's a nice technique, glad to see that you kept the indirect lightning into the new updated engine, it will save time for Eric, because he doesn't need to back (apply shadow into the final texture) every track objects texture with ambiant shadow Smile.

But it's still a little bit problematic in case of night/day transition, as you cant use the indirect lightning in real time conditon ?

Also is the new dynamic shadow also can be rendred inside the car interior ?

Whatever, I can't wait to see the final result onto the updated tracks.
