Quote from Cue-Ball :Did you pass English class?

My third point was addressing the fact that the tires smoke even when you're driving along in a straight line, with no tire skid and no slip angle. Once the tires get a hot spot, that spot will smoke every time it touches the pavement. If you drive along with one hot section of tire, you'll get a small puff of smoke every time that section touches the ground.

I realize that the smoke can be somewhat of a CPU hog. I also realize that Scawen is a pretty talented guy who might be able to optimize the current code further, or implement some other way of handling the smoke that is less processor intensive. There are plenty of other things that should probably take priority over this, but you never know when he'll be mucking around in that portion of the code and decide to make a change.

I'm typing and editing as I go so I could care less about being grammatically perfect as long as the point gets across. Your post really sounded like you were complaining about how tires smoke when you locked them up going in a straight line. That seems like a bigger issue than minor grammar errors.

Did you upgrade your PSU or just replace it with the same kind? If you have the same one then it might be because your gfx card is taking up too much power (a big problem if the fan runs faster depending on the load).

This was a huge problem for me when I had my 6600gt running and it would shut down my computer (because that's what it's set up to do if there's not enough power) if it was taking up too much power.

System specs would be a HUGE help. =)

Quote from Cue-Ball :
3) The behavior needs changed so that smoke is not produced when it shouldn't be. For instance, if I lock my tire going into a corner, every time that section of tire touches the ground a small puff of smoke comes off. It needs to be coded so that if the tire is turning at the same (or very nearly the same) speed as the pavement is going underneath, no smoke is generated.

It's already been agreed upon, but it's been put off due to the computing power required to do it, IIRC. The best option is to stop asking.

I'd also like to point out that your point #3 is completely wrong. The angle of the tire in relation to the motion of the car has no effect on the amount of smoke that comes off. The amount of smoke created is determined by the force being exerted downwards on the tire during the lock up, the surface area of the tire being dragged across the track, and the speed at which the tire is being dragged across the track.
In short, an increase in friction/resistance means an increase in smoke created by the skidding tire.

Parents? Getting YOU a license?

I don't even think the number of players in the entire U.S. is high enough for a meet.

I'm not sure if a LFS LAN party would be very fun. I can recommend a few cop-free roads for some good "spirited" driving around here

Starting an argument over oval racing is not an intelligent thing to do- it's annoying and pointless. There have been countless arguments about it and there will be arguments until racing ends. They don't make any progress and never will. If anything, this seems more like a rant from you.

Oval racing isn't my thing. I think it's very boring to watch and do. That said, I don't think it takes no skill. I tend to dislike oval racing more on politics and the people who watch it(NASCAR fans, hicks) than the racing itself.

That said, I'll sum up the argument:

Pro-oval: OMFG WE ARE HAVING FUN AND ARE SKILLED
Anti-oval: OMFG NO YOU ARE NOT!
Pro-oval: Are too!
Anti-oval: Are not!
Pro-oval: Are too!
Anti-oval: Are not!
Pro-oval: Are too!
Anti-oval: Are not!
...
Rinse and repeat for a few pages and I think you'll have your "argument."

I'd like this a lot, but I'd prefer an automatic "slider" if you will that changes the fuel based on number of laps, stops, average fuel usage, etc.

Quote from Mykl :We believe it to be a right because our constitution tells us that it *is* a right.

The United States constitution is quite clear. While it mentions a militia, it also states very directly that the right of the people to keep and bear arms is not to be infringed.

Why do we even HAVE the power to amend the constitution? It's always right and has always been right. Slavery, women's suffrage, etc. you name it and it's always been in there!

Quote from XCNuse :boris, this wouldn't have been such a huge deal if stuff like this happened all the time, but it doesnt.. there aren't that many shootings like this really.. ever

Groups of people, most often larger than that of VT, are killed almost daily. That seems like "all the time" to me.

Quote from Nine :Maybe I wasn't specific enough but yeah, their is a clear connection between I and the students at VT but maybe be reasoning with the Iraq civilians wasn't explained enough. Yeah, I wish this war never happened, of course, I don't think anyone wishes death upon another individual for no reason, but when you compare the civilians in Iraq to the students in VT, that's crossing the line. Yeah, both are innocent, and yet, there is a WAR in Iraq...

How is that crossing a line? Neither deserved to die.

Quote from Cue-Ball :The only thing more sad than the loss of life at Virginia Tech is the ignorance of people who are willing to give up their rights for supposed "safety".

I could have sworn that 150 Iraqis were killed in suicide bombings on the same day. That seems more sad to me.

Oddly enough, I don't think it even made the front page on any newspaper. Funny how we don't seem to care about others who have it so much worse.

Quote from shoester :Hey guys, i need some help on my drifting. When im drifting my first lap is good, but then after the 1st lap i start to spinout more cause i figure my tyres are more wore down. Are there any hints or tricks you guys can teach me to control the car better after the 1st lap? All help will be greatly apreciated

I would put my replay file but i dont know how, anyone who can help me on that would be also greatly apreciated

Thanks for your time guys! :smileyrai

After your tires are worn out, you must be more gentle when you initiate drifts and slightly quicker to correct after you've initiated them. Your tires might last a bit longer if you increased their pressures but beyond that there's not a whole lot that can be done to improve your situation.

Quote from pearcy_2k7 :Well i use a setup which was given to me in one of the other threads which was near to the lowest, i asked for a quick lap time setup to get me into the 26's so maybe the setup is designed for 2 maybe 3 laps and ive been using it continuesly.

that is probably the problem.

but i want to be able to do 10 laps but still be able to get into 26's is it possible if i raise the pressures.

thanks,

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Considering Blackwood has a VERY long straight section, you can probably get a similar time with longer tire life by increasing tire pressure.

Quote from house_Fly :Look at trackmania nations you do not need a cd-key or anything to play online for that one and you also do not need to register you can get that one as a demo but to use custom vehicles and things you must purchase it. This is the first time I had heard of this game and thought it sounded cool and it had somewhat decent graphics defiantly nothing cutting edge. So i figured idk why this couldn't be free.

You don't need a CD key to play LFS if you play the demo version. One should assume that a work like LFS would cost quite a bit of time and resources. In other words, it'd take a fool to think it was free. There are some open-source works out there but those aren't too common and few games, let alone 3D ones, are free.
