Quote from Bob Smith ::bump:

Been keeping track of this still, seems word has REALLY started spreading of late, kicking off with patch Z.

Not only has lfs.net now reached one quarter of a million registrations (2 days ago infact), but the rate at which new registrations are appearing is consistently higher than ever before, including day-of-release spikes (S1A and S2Z excluded).

Thought this would be of interest.

Btw: current predictions for the million mark are currently lying somewhere in 2014.

well, demo users were forced to register IIRC, so that may be a factor...

Quote from Blizzardo :I don't want to drag this too far off-topic, but do I understand this 'name and shame' policy correct? It's not ok for anyone to write the name of the offender in the forum (even when proof is posted), even though basically anyone can find out what the persons name is by checking out the replay? I mean, what's the point?

maybe so people can't say "this person did this" while in reality he didn't do exactly as accused. Before mods get to truth, some people have already seen username and auto-think that person is a bad racer.

Quote from Inouva :I dont use to much the GTR when i am cruising , only LX6 - RAC - And Mrt

I ben racing in ConeDodgers for 2200 laps and every race with 30+ drivers , never they used the horn

So just because it's not useful to racers means it should be taken out?

Hasn't everyone been complaining about "bad improvement suggestions" because it'll take precious time out of devs' limited work hours? It's the same thing as "take out the ability to put drivers in"... It's already coded, why take out something that took a while to code? It's going in reverse direction. We have to realize that this ISN'T reality. It's a game. If it was an ultimate simulator we'd all be sweaty and damned tired after every race, and we would have no money in a few weeks from racing. Some things are just better to have than to not have. Horns are not so important, and almost no racer uses it. Does that justify taking the time to take it out of the game? I certainly don't think so. After it's taken out there will be a new group of racers asking for it back! You never know what you had until its taken from you - or something like that. Maybe you're just taking the horn for grantite. It's useful for cruisers and.. drifters i guess? If they're too sideways maybe they beep?

I probably made no sense; i'm incredibly tired.

Quote from Lateralus :Are you actually leaving the pits to check the brightness? When just sitting in the garage you're in the shade and the cockpits are very dim. On my screen they're pretty much black. Pull out into the pitlane and into the sun and everything brightens up.

yes. If you have logitech Profiler (you should, and if you don't, go download it from logitech.com) You can map the paddles to buttons.

1. Open up Profiler
2. Look at bottom left of window, it should say "Left Paddle" and "Right Paddle" with lines connecting it to the actual paddle on the picture when you hover over it.
3. Left-click "Left Paddle"
4. select "select keystroke" -> "new keystroke"
5. Press record button.
6. Press the "7" button, and then press stop.
7. do steps 3-6 for the right paddle, but use 8 instead of 7 in step 6.

notes: 7 is left blinker, 8 is right blinker, 9 is hazards, and 0 is off ingame LFS. You should map a 0 somewhere for ease of use so you dont leave your blinker on like an old lady

hope you get it working

You shouldn't get + points for being a good racer, but you should get - for being a bad one. As reports sometimes do this, i think thats enough.

Quote from ColeusRattus :And what's that supposed to mean, Wraak? I see no demo user abusive behaviour in both posts.

And to start another flame war: why does it seem as if americans are always the first to jump the political correctness bandwagon and act exxagerately shocked when someone doesn't act conformingly? Is it because of the fear to get sued by everyone else and his dog?

Have you even read the announcement? Illusion seemed to understand what i was getting at.

If you knew an anti-american comment would start a flame war, why even say it? "exxageratedly shocked"? please read my last post over again because it seems you are overreacting to that comment.

Quote from Kristjan.J :Cruise in demo fails IMO. Go race, it's better for us, Estonians.

Quote from garph :Well LFS S2 is a racing sim so just make sure you're buying the right game before you do anything, as you could be disappointed if you by it for cruising, only to find you get the same kind of cruising in S2 but this time you've paid money for it.

And as people have said, myself included in other threads, it would be best to discuss cruising related issues on cruising forums as it is an unoffcial add-on, so no offcial support or help can be found here and tends to cause problems.

Quote from Mille Sabords :The idea seems good to me, only problem (as stated above) is the unfairness, the arbitrary application of the penalty.

Ex: If 2 drivers end up in the above described chicane at the same time, and play if fair, they may be forced to take wide lines way off the ideal racin line and thus get undeserved penalties for it.

Ex2: miss your braking point under pressure and you get a bit wide - ok, you slow down and get back on track, position lost. Did you deserve an extra 5 second penalty for it?

Extra obstacles (visible) do a better punishment job in theory but with the current collision detection they might as well send you to the moon... and if your field is tight flying tyres may cause a massive wreck - mass punishment?

I think a few cones well disposed with a collision detection, penalty linked (like training? I'm no programmer but it seems possible), may work, because it might be easier to tweak (penalty after a number of cones, or penalty above a number of cones/ lap or anything the like).

Thanks for digging up this thread, interesting to read knowing how LFS evolved. We are coming closer to a solution it seems

Usually people don't go wide into corners that you can cut (because,well, you can't)

Quote from FastNOC :bah nevermind, I got it. I was shifting into gear ok. but for some reason before everything clicked in i had to clutch. The first time I did that it worked, and it's working great now.

Thanks for the quick response!

How much is 12 in USD? I'm assuming about 20?

if you're thinking of buying s1 - go straight to s2. its worth the extra money for all the extra servers on it

But, with the current controversy, i cannot tell you anything so ignore that comment

Definitions of muscle car on the Web:
Sometimes called “Pony Cars” too. Big giant V8 engines with super chargers and special exhaust created these gas-guzzlers that were really ...
www.buy-and-sell-car-secrets.com/car-model-terms.html

A muscle car is an automobile with a high horse power engine, modest weight, capable of producing high levels of acceleration. ...
www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscle_car

furthermore
Quote :For a definition from the muscle car era, a 2004 book refers the reader to an extract from Road Test magazine’s June 1967 issue: "Just what is a Muscle Car? Exactly what the name implies. It is a product of the American car industry adhering to the hot rodder's philosophy of taking a small car and putting a BIG engine in it [...] The Muscle Car is Charles Atlas kicking sand in the face of the 98 hp (73 kW) weakling." The book’s author adds that the muscle car was designed for straight-line speed, and did not have the "sophisticated chassis", "engineering integrity" or "lithe appearance" of European high-performance cars[10]

So actually, understeer isnt a stereotype. The understeer was the definition of the car itself

If a muscle car would be added, id vote for any of these
Quote :Car and Driver also created a list of the 10 Best muscle cars for its January 1990 issue. The magazine focused on the engines and included:

* 1966–1967 Plymouth/Dodge intermediates with 426 Hemi
* 1968–1969 Plymouth/Dodge intermediates with 426 Hemi
* 1970–1971 Plymouth/Dodge intermediates with 426 Hemi
* 1966–1967 Chevy II SS327
* 1966–1969 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396
* 1968–1969 Chevy II Nova SS396
* 1969 Ford Torino Cobra 428
* 1969 Plymouth Road Runner/Dodge Super Bee 440 Six Pack
* 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS454
* 1969 Pontiac GTO

Quote from loulew :I think that this sounds reasonable for offline use only... because it's a simulation right? So I thought this would be passable to most people, especially since I want to experiment what a car would feel like if there were some wear and tear/problems in the suspension components, however, I cannot specify what parts are damaged and to what extent =/ just an idea ><'

I don't think its necessary so.

Quote from BAMBO :I really don't understand what is with this muscle car stereotype of always understeering. Aren't the Dodge Viper ACR and the Chevrolet C6 ZR1 muscle cars? They are and they can do a lap around the Nurburgring faster then a Ferrari, a Lamborghini or a Porsche. I'm pretty sure if they would have understeered so badly, they wouldn't have beaten their european competitors. Don't speak about something you never tried in person.

Yeah the new zr1 is amazing, but when people say "american muscle" they think before 60's to early 70's muscle cars, which, afaik, is what this thread is about.

Quote from Dac :i actually thought of that. perhaps the track is too thin and doesnt leave as much room to lay down traditional track driving techniques as weve come to like with tracks like Aston.

Relative to LFS, nords is way too thin. But if you look at it from the other side, LFS's tracks are WAY too wide.

p.s. id rather wait for rain and night racing before nords.
