Are there any restrictions on what kind of tire you can use?

Quote from bunder9999 :does that include the 6 months he took off for moving? z28 to now is roughly 21 months.

i'm not going to sit here and badmouth scawen completely, he did make some noticeable improvements in that time, but we're still no closer to s3 than we were in december 2008.

Of course it doesn't. Scawen decided in April or whenever to do an interim patch and (as far as we know) worked on that full-time until it was completed.
I think that .6b is representative of what Scawen can do in (about) three months.

I imagine we are much closer to S3 than we were because Scawen has been doing R&D, and Eric has been developing content.

I understand people being impatient, but Scawen did put in a few months on tangible stuff we can play with now.

Quote from Be2K :Scawen wrote on one of his last progress reports that he expected some good releases this year. So well there are only 3 Month left if we dont count this month.

But we only got some bug fixes and an open Config Layout. In my opinion Scawen was hoping for some bigger releases of his development improvments or ?

Clearly your opinion was not well informed.

A lot of people around here seem inclined to discount the most recent patch. To them, I advise you read the release, and take into consideration the fact that it took months to complete. If I recall correctly, Scawen had spent several weeks on it before releasing test patches.

Thank you for taking the time to help me with such a trivial problem

I really enjoy using your library! Thank you for making it so complete and open to the LFS community!

I'll make sure to compare the InSim documentation with my code next time

What am I doing wrong?

I just started writing a new insim, but ran into the strangest thing when I got around to writing an MCI handler.
There were no MCI events!

I made a test script to make absolutely sure I was doing it right:

import pyinsim

n = 0

def mci_handler(insim, mci):
global n
n += 1

insim = pyinsim.insim('127.0.0.1', 29999, Flags = pyinsim.ISF_MCI, Admin='thecorrectpass', IName='insim test')

insim.bind(pyinsim.ISP_MCI, mci_handler)

pyinsim.run()

print n

Then I fired up server .6b, connected to it, and played in the XRT
Killed the server

n == 0

How the what huh?
Thank you

It is important to spectate or pit when you spin in front of someone. When someone is connecting to a the server you're on, this isn't possible.

Also, I have had several instances of LFS refusing to close when someone is connecting.

I imagine this won't be easy to fix, but it would be really nifty.

A couple of other suggestions, since you're reading:
AutoX layout hash - If I already have the layout, I shouldn't have to get it from the server I'm connecting to.

Tire preheating server option - For every mode, not just hot-lapping.

Thank you for your time

I think you can do both, but it does seem a little silly

Quote from Scawen :I will do that incompatible version. But it's possible I may first release a fully compatible one with various compatible fixes, so you have those already when I start to work on any incompatible features and fixes.

That is very considerate! I really appreciate your willingness to consider that option

Anyway, I wanted to say thanks for taking the time to do an interim release.

Thanks
Neat!

This is very cool! I'm enjoying it a great deal.

That said, I wonder if this is the kind of interim release that indicates a serious snag in development.

If so: Thank you Scawen!
If not: Thank you Scawen!

I don't understand cruise servers.

I just slide around because I'm a bum. I hope there is a new car that is better at sliding than the XRT.

I wonder how immersive the graphics are going to be in the next patch :goodvibes:

I am really tired of this compulsion I have to visit this forum. I need to find a new driving sim.

Maybe I'll just start playing a game like Shift 2. The tire physics may be primitive, but everything else about it is years more advanced than LFS.
I'm talking more shaders, more polygons, more dynamic track surfaces, more realistic damage, better sounding sound, professional drivers teaching you techniques, and more, friends.

Food for thought.

I imagine that the benchmark is Scawen's computer.

Something tells me that he isn't running enthusiast hardware.

This is pure speculation.

RE: ping
lotsa busy routers and over-burdened local-loops.

RE: hatred
I don't hate LFS in particular, I hate the hobby.
  • Lots of people think sim racing is equivalent to playing asteroids
  • Lots of sim racers think sim drifting is retarded
  • Racing sim devs are always late
  • Racing simulators are niche products developed with minimal resources
    There is very little content compared to Gran Turismo et al
    The graphics usually suck
    The sound always sucks
  • Incompetent, uninteresting people far out-number competent, interesting people online.
  • Modding is usually discouraged
    Probably because selling content is the only way to make money
    Even if there is no new content
    NeverKeptPunctual 1.2+ and rFailure are notable exceptions
Anyway, NKP 1.3 came out before S3. Buy it now.

That said, I think that this year is going to be a good year for sim racing.

You know what helps me when I start caring about something on a forum too much?

I like to type out my great reply or topic, read it, and close the tab.

If people on this forum did that more often, I'm willing to bet this would be a much less depressing place to be.

On the other hand, if people weren't complaining, what would there be to talk about?

I'm really glad they pushed out an unfinished product.

I've been having huge fun with the vintage on the hillclimb in the rain.

By the way, what does *= mean? (Google gives me Your search - *= - did not match any documents).

Assign product.

a = 2
a *= 2
a == 4

Remember that the most gratifying way to learn something is doing experiments.

There are already so many solutions for OP that this thread doesn't really need to be here.

shall we expect the new one to be featured in the ... "new" upcoming version of LFS?

I <3 drifting

Fortunately for the perverts that actually want to see smoke coming from their tires, Scawen has already mentioned improving the smoke.

I imagine that the next patch will have smoke coming from every burning hot section of tire, whether or not that section is touching the ground.

I don't think that the computing power required to handle smoke collisions is ubiquitous among the LFS userbase.
Once we have smoke collisions, we'll naturally want sophisticated fluid dynamics

If collisions were to get attention, I imagine most LFS users would prefer that car-launcher-barriers were fixed.

As someone that spends most of their time in LFS drifting, I can certainly relate to people that want the smoke improved, but there are a lot of other things that I would like to see first.
