I would rather have barriers that don't reduce my frame rate by sixty percent whenever I open a layout than ones that don't throw my car flying.

While this is neat, it strikes me that the allowed angle is 47-57...
The most I know of is from that GP Sports Super Knuckle, and a pair of those will set you back around 1000USD. They'll get you to about 50 degrees out of a 240sx...
If I recall correctly, most of the cars in D1 run around 41-48 (I don't remember how old the Drift Tengoku that I saw that in is though).

I guess what I'm saying is, if you're going mess with the realism, or change the car with a bunch of lock, why not give it a sixth gear and a couple hundred more bhp? Maybe a standard D1 car for the LFS drifting community?

I'm inclined to agree with Morpha et al regarding modding dedis being a slippery slope, but I figure there should be some consistency in the way the car(s) is/are modified.

What do you guys think of that?

I've been messing with using multiple monitors, which is neat.

I noticed though, that when using mouse-steer, the input goes dead when the (invisible) cursor goes to the right or left of the center screen.

It'd be nice if, at least when the cursor wouldn't usually be shown, it couldn't go past the edges of the center screen.

Quote from Ales_M :As the tittle says. I made a pack of layouts I created for server 42D Driftwars in year 2009. I picked the most used ones, pack includes 80 layouts. Have fun.

Great stuff

Gran Turismo Team / Scavier = 50
Number of cars in LFS * 50 = Number of cars in Gran Turismo 5

But then again, LFS did have a two year head start...

Assuming the development time was the same, which it clearly wasn't, you could say that Scavier probably operates around at 1/50 the pace that Polyphony Digital does.

If we compare the GT2 and GT5, then divide the difference into fifty parts, we can say that LFS might improve by one of those 50 little parts in the next ten years. :clapclap:

j/k I know what is wrong with this post, and it pleases me.

Can anyone tell me if I have a copyright to it as its been taken without permission and used on 2 servers that I know of up to now.

If you owned rights to the layout in question, what action would you pursue?
Would you pay a lawyer to draft you up a cease and desist?
Would you press charges against the infringing party?

What is the real benefit of controlling the distribution and use of an arrangement of virtual objects in a niche software application?

I'd like to know, because other people in this community seem to think that their work should only benefit them.

Quote from SamH :It is against the EULA to modify the cars' shapes, as it quite clearly states. The moderators will not allow such content to be linked from this forum. Those we believe are already aware of this, but who post VOB hacked content regardless, may indeed be banned and their content removed.

Could you point me in the direction of the EULA?
I read the one on lfs.net, and read the readme that comes with LFS, and neither one make any mention of modifications to the game.

Is it just that anything not explicitly permitted is forbidden?

While interpreting the forum rules is at your guys' discretion, it seems to me that showing a modded car in a vid or autox preview is a little different from linking/posting(releasing) mods.

Thanks

Quote from Jacko1 :Umm Guys i think your missing something. In the preview of the track his fz5 has a spoiler so this must mean he has used a vob mod to get it isnt that against the rules? Your arnt meant to edit vob files so he must be in alot of trouble

It isn't against the forum rules, and is not forbidden in the LFS EULA.

You should be familiar with both.

We're missing cars specialized for rally, dragstrip and oval duties.

I think that rally could be covered by adding trims to cars already available, but the other two have been completely neglected.

In light of the announced track, a Stock car would make a lot of sense.

We should start a betting pool

I think it is a good idea to look at all the major sims four years ago and this year.

Who has made the most progress? Who has addressed the desires of their respective communities most effectively?

Where are we headed? FM3 is not the be all and end all, but it sure will keep people busy until FM4 ;P

I looked into it a bit more, and found that all I'd be missing is software if I decided to build a wheel.

I think I'm going Fanatec or DFGT.

Thanks for the links

I got a G25 a while back. It was great for me until it broke.
One of the motors started shorting out shortly after the warranty expired, and it fried itself.

I'm trying to decide where to go from here.
I was thinking about building a wheel, but I don't have the know-how to build a controller. I thought I'd get a solution like Leo Bodnar's FFB board, but as far as I know, there isn't anything like that on the market.

Right now, I am thinking that I what I'm going to do is buy a Driving Force GT, and a usb adaptor for my G25 pedals.

Is the GT a good buy? Are the feel and speed comparable with the G25?
Is there a good FFB controller out there?
Are there other wheels I should be thinking about?

Quote from morpha :There's a difference between interest in the software and interest in copying it, which......is exactly what he wants to do. :thumbsdow

See, I assumed that the aforementioned software is not available to the public. It sounded like, from the OP, that it is simply a modification of LFSLapper, in which case it is kinda hypocritical to keep it private anyway. If it is in fact unavailable, it stands to reason that someone that wanted duplicate functionality would rather just copy what has already been done instead of reinventing the wheel.

what if LFS had a slightly different license model.

i think that allowing users to buy smaller chunks of content could work really well, if it was balanced right.

just allow them to buy stuff with points. maybe the community could put on a race series with points prizes for new racers.

i'm just saying, i think that there are people out there that would buy a track here and there until they owned all the content they wanted, or at the very least, would buy a couple of things (more than nothing!).

my thinking is that if someone has so much interest in playing that they want more content, they should be able to get a little five or ten dollar taste, you know?
