i know im unhappy at some things but im going to keep playing because i have no money and i just bought it i have no parents actually not since a young age so i am not as spoilt as you think im actually 25 years old and dont have money to throw away. i bought this game and now i cant buy any for a long time so
i guess my "oh man this game is so good" bubble got burst, thats all.
lets stop talking about it because its doing noone any good.
and thats how you answer back to those criticisms?
actually i do feel bad about saying things about the community because of the nice guys who have replied to me.
but you just make their efforts wasted. you are the kind of person im talking about in my posts.
you get it in game too, everywhere in this game is negativity from the community. so here i am, on the negativity wagon with all of you. for a short time though.
thank you for the setup thread, i got help with my gamepad and it greatly improved my car control and handling of rear wheel drive cars. and i started to learn the car setups and i even have my own skinned / setup GTR in the garage for racing now!! my controls are fine since that thread and i find im really tucking into barriers now and aiming for apexs under braking etc
im sorry for being unappreciative of that i guess i shouldnt of wasted your time there, but had i known what it was going to be like i wouldnt of asked, i didnt know i would be so disappointed with other aspects of the game.
i dont want WR, i just want something else other than just load up the game, do like 5x 5 lap races then just leave. i sure as dont want to be part of this forum because i tried and you just get knocked down. you try to talk in a server but just ignored or people are sarcastic or just say "noob!". you come to find people or clubs to race with, you might get flamed (or helped) depending on the mood the person is in. *see 2nd post in this thread
yeah so what if im new. so what if i tried to make something else of this game than just doing the same 5 lap races over and over. i guess i was stupid to think this online racing simulator had something else to offer than the same old first person shooter 5 minute blast online. single player games will rule forever until forums like these are gone or treated differently by the player base.
who cares if i wanted to do some serious racing where flags are obeyed and people actually TALK on the server or have some fun. im stupid for thinking this game was anything other than great physics.
im pretty cheesed off that i didnt come to these forums before i got the license, i should of played the demo a couple of weeks, checked out this forum, realised i didnt like it and then not paid for it.
ive changed my mind, im not even going to bother spending much time other than just driving and doing my own thing, this game isnt worth it. im not even going to bother coming back here unless im going to the skinning forum.
well, today i have decided that i am DEFINATELY (bold and italic) not going to buy a steering wheel for my PC, i am going to cut my losses at paying for LFS. it seems i purchased it when it is past its prime as the feedback i get from replies and reading this forum hint that the best has passed. maybe this game is not the gem i thought it was.
i advise anyone who is about to get this game, dont.
yeah i totally understand that internet games are like that ive played other various games online so i know what happens on servers like that, i been teamkilled on counterstrike many times on public servers its a more relaxed atmosphere in those servers i guess but its nice to hook up for a proper meet with some friends and race like a sim like a clan match is a whole other side to that game.
maybe i will try and start a newbie race team i just made my first skin i think maybe i could spend some time doing some stuff for that, and just hire newbies like me to race properly though and try and learn quick.
who knows i only got this game a coupla weeks ago i still got loads to learn but i got the time will wait and see.
i didnt mean it as a bad thing i just thought i was missing out on a better part of LFS, im not very confident in the car yet i still cant get lap times anywhere near the good people.
im loving the racing that goes on already but most public servers ive been racing on have people who hot lap so you get blue flagged people sitting on your rear end for ages putting you off even if youre in third and they pitted 20 times that race, they got a fresh car out of the pits but your worn out banger is still on lead lap trying to make your way round.
maybe im just on a difficult server and im not good enough but having so many fresh cars pouring out of the pits into your race can be a bit, unsettling or maybe thats just me again.
in leagues do they have limits on how much you can pit in a race? do people pit as often? or are they pretty much the same as the public servers with loads of restarts?
thats how youre taught to drive on the roads but racing is a rewrite of the text books things on braking in corners etc, i learnt that from wiki trail braking shifts the weight of the car onto the front wheels under braking so braking into a corner can actually give more grip, but you dont do it on real roads cos its risky.
its like real racing, if you drive hard you shred your tyres and have more chances or wrecking, but if you drive with carefulness in mind you may find you will be stronger toward the end of a race.
often i let those guys who brake super late or are overtaking me take their line but i make sure my "follow up" or counterstrike manouver is already in place often stealing the place right back if the person over cooks the overtake, do this by knowing their tyres are slipping so break early keep all your grip and guarantee that you can pull out of that corner quicker than him and youll make his efforts pointless
i hear that public servers are not very clean. although it seems its as clean as i am, i feel like sometimes blue flags are ignored or people pull onto the track or dont give position to a car that is making a good move, and i feel like race after race is becoming dull-ish. need a little bit more competition or pressure to make the race exciting, or people to laugh with cos i finished last
so i see some guys who are part of a racing club or something, is there any UK racing clubs that are quite active, as i got lots of time to play LFS and wanna chat with guys about the game and learn to race really well and also so i can have a cool skin like thats the same as my team mates
Leagues sound like a lot of fun, i think by just joining random servers i am missing out on a whole other side of LFS, how can i find a really active uk racing team??
i watched it with force view on and i was monitoring my tyre wear too.
im not sure wether my driving needs fixing or the car needs to be tweaked.
while my car is corning im seeing green/blue arrows on the outside wheels and red arrows on the inside wheels is that meant to happen?
should i be aiming for green on the outside and blue on the inside?
ok something else...
in the sharp turn 2 (the one where u drop to 1st gear) i notice when i pull away from that corner that i sometimes have the steering on more turn that is needed because as im accelerating out of the corner in 1st gear i need more turn to get away from the barrier. it feels like i got understeer as im pulling away from the corner, my wheels are turned like 45 degrees but my car is only turning a small amount. is that because of the setup, or because im putting full power down too early while needing to do a gradual turn? wow i hoped that even made sense.
ok i tried with look left right and rear view on the D pad and thats fine aslong as i use them down a straight and mirrors & sense of awareness in the corners.
i have been practicing with moving the throttle to the other stick it seems like the car is more in control
and im getting as good as my previous pb while still rough around the edges and hitting the wrong gears here and there so i think over time this new way will be better.
it feels like i got more control under braking now, and less tyre squeal in corners, and its easier to adjust my throttle/speed mid corner better. and my hands look more stable on the cockpit wheel.
i think with some more finer adjustments i can get this working nicely.
the top mounted buttons are just two, which is a bit of a let down, those are currently in use as look left / right.
if i put look left / right on to the 6 buttons on the front ill have to stop accelerating to look left or right.
maybe this is a sacrifice i need to make, i could try putting it on the left/right axis of the 2nd stick but i might find that ill be looking left or right while im accelerating or braking which is not good.
or i could try putting it on the D pad somehow, then i can look left or right as im going down the straight if i let go of the steering, oh wait maybe i shouldnt do that either hehe.
is there a way i can set look left / right to an axis but make it only do it once that axis is fully extended so it doesnt make it look left or right when i dont want it to?
In a XF GTR on SO town rev this is my best time in a setup someone sent me. 1:27.84 but they are all lapping at 1:24. i practiced quite a bit and know the line, and i got the right gears in the corners, and can keep up and even make passes in the race or maybe even get 3rd place if i dont hit too many barriers and i am gaining massive time on some people in places. i must of done a good 20 hours on that track now in the same setup but no cigar. I feel like i can control the car, if a little nervous when someone is along side me, but i think maybe the controls are limiting how far i can push that time, or do you think i need to practice or setup my controller differently or setup the car to suit the controller?? im not sure.
i use gamepad because of other games, a wheel is very specific to what games you can play with it but i really love LFS its tempting to buy a wheel just for this illepall
here is a picture of my gamepad
its really cheap one, but it has dual analogue on it but obviously the motion ranges are my issue here i think?? it feels like going down the straight i have to make my in-car virtual wheel turn too much to make fine adjustments, this can lead to a spin out at full speed down a straight.
im trying to set this thing up right with the game and my car but im not sure how i can.
does anyone have any ideas or tips on what buttons to use for what? i have 4 axis to work with and a bunch of buttons.
the left stick is left/right and also it is accel/brake too. this is hard to work with using just 1 thumb. so i try to use accel/brake on the left stick but my thumb is busy with the gears.....and then i have to try and use the clutch?? i heard i need to do gears differently too.
This is a quote from B2B@300 in that thread you linked me:
can any of these settings actually limit my car controls in the game? a lot of these settings confuse me as to what they do and wether my pad is the same
Is there any black market doctors who can install an extra pair of thumbs on my hands?
i think its harder to do the throttle and steer at the same time off one control stick, i learnt what trail braking meant so i been practicing that and i can still do that just about but i feel that it would be easier using my foot + hands to steer like in a real car.
is there any advantages of a gamepad, maybe its easier to recover because of less motion needed to turn the wheels, ie when im spinning in a corner i can whip the car back round facing forwards and still keep some speed, can you do that with a wheel or is it harder work??
hi im new to LFS just this week i purchased my license. my controls setup are dual action gamepad. i use a mini joystick for my accel/brake and left/right which can be twitchy. but its all i have and im not sure i can afford a wheel. its analogue i guess so itll have to do. theres tonnes of buttons too so it beats keyboard or mouse i guess.
i been in some servers racing away in FWD as these are easier and i ask for a setup that some guys send me and i use which usually shaves 1 or 2 seconds off my time but im still often 4 or 5 seconds off their lap times. i find the only way i do well is to be consistent and not make mistakes but i never win and i still make mistakes.
so i thought that maybe its my controls and others are using a wheel. so i studied people from spectator for a while (wow this helps loads) and it seems like im always skidding my wheels more than others. i think i might make a replay and ask you guys to watch to see what is happening but i have no idea how to make my car setup for this kind of controller. its like i am turning my wheels 90 degrees and the car is corning at 3 degrees (its a front wheel drive) this is like understeer i think?
do anyone else have this kind of gamepad that has analogue controls on it? what are the advantages / disadvantages and can you ever win over someone who is using a wheel? would a car setup be any different for this type of controllers???
sorry if i seem like a newbie this is my first racing sim, need for speed scared me away from online racing but this game changed my mind.
