Quote from farcar :To clarify, some people perceive a difference between a newbie and a n00b:

newbie: A newcomer who is lacking in skill but does the right thing online and keeps out of peoples way.
n00b: A player who is lacking in skill and behaves recklessly online not caring about taking out other racers because they don't know where braking points etc are. Often used as an insult

hi i have made a slight edit with an explanation.

its not just a newcomer who is a n00b, it can be anybody, as the term noob is actually a form of insult rather than a statement of fact. like calling a driver you know a rookie, even though he and you both know he isnt, its taken as an insult. ah well i guess im just rambling now i guess u see what i mean even though its kinda unimportant.

but in Live for Speed we can choose what car we drive, eg the fastest one? illepall if you put todays cars in lfs we would all be racing R8's why because thats the fastest. you need balancing.

a competitor doesnt have to be equal, but it does have to be competetive, if it isnt then it isnt a competitor, get it?

i have given the wrong fuel amounts to people before, i was driving a UFR and the guy had an XFR and he needed 12% and i was only using 11%. it was a complete mistake and i felt a bit stupid for it.

the best way to stop people telling you the incorrect amounts is to learn to do it yourself (F12)

nah the easiest way is just doing what the topic starter suggested and thats by doing 1 lap then pressing F12.

i just found hotlapping, have a look its kinda fun to try and beat the benchmark times (well it is for me ) no chance of a WR but i must say its fun specialising your hotlaps in one car, for me its the XFR and you can see the ranks for just that car, its just another area.

www.lfsworld.net is a great place to waste some time.

or skinning cars / helmets, if you have the patience, i find that fun and rewarding to take the car out on track. i swear it makes me race faster. heheh.

ive not stepped into the world of leagues or a proper team yet (just some RL mates team so far).

Quote from Greboth :Helmet skin i made for mg team mate

that looks great i bet he was pleased with that, after just making my first proper helmet skin i can see that all these helmets in this thread have had a lot of time put into it, and now i think i need to do more on mine lol

oh yes ive ridden one of those and after you get over the first 10 minutes of balance issues (i guess you can call it that lol) they are so nice to ride after that. just so smooth you can really link up the slides, but it does feel a bit unsteady at first

great stuff

for pre heated tyres

im new to hotlapping and my car is the XFR, the problem im finding is that the rears just dont heat up doing laps, you really need to get that back end sliding to get them running nicely, i can actually feel the car driving better after i have snaked the car down the road and all 4 tyres are glowing green. but to do that "drifting" is pretty hard and im constantly getting invalid hotlaps because i 1) hit the grass with a wheel 2) hit a barrier while doing 3 point turns or sliding 3) burn up the tyres too much 4) roll the car over 5) bend the suspension.

this is without even starting my hotlap where i also do 1)-5)...

so yeah i find it rather frustrating doing that stuff, but i hope i will get used to it and be able to limit the amount of restarting i got to do.

it takes a while to do all that heating up and then u hit a barrier in south city and you got to do it all again.

oh well it wont stop me carrying on with how it is for now

i was in a race yesterday and i was out in front (i know, amazing isnt it) and i knew 2nd place was a much faster car than I was. it was a 5 lap race and i was on lap 3 and could see 2nd place in my mirror slowly gaining on me, i knew i would have to fight to stay in first place. I dont often defend my position, i will often just let a car by but as i was in first something took over my whole body and didnt want to let him by.

so i took all my corners slightly inside and tried to not leave any blatant gaps for him to get on the inside line, that is about as far as my "defense" goes, if he got up the inside of me that place was going to be his i werent going to give too much of a fight for it because it was obvious who was faster, i tried to defend it the best way i could and it obviously would fail at some time so why risk a crash that could take us both out.

in the end i went wide into a corner and lost my position anyway. i guess i had a bit of a defeatist attitude from the start.

Quote from Becky Rose :This isn't the blue flag debate. We're talking multiple crash per corner drivers some of whome have difficulty navigating a strait

yes but im pretty sure a yellow flag was waving if the guy crashed in the chicane no? if the guy loses it on the straight and you crash into him, you are kind of at fault too you know that right? its not just about gunning it round that city track and hoping everyone parts out of your way, you need to deal with backmarkers like any racing driver has to in a track as tight as that...

well i would like to see the manouvers you guys pulled as you passed these newbies, did you let off of the accelerator? did you slow down and wait for the right moment to pass like any other car on the track or did you just stick to your line and pow! there they are in your way?

im not having a dig but sometimes people dont even give a newbie a chance to do the right thing before they have been hit by someone doing 40 mph more than them round a bend.

i dont think seperating the LFS players any more will help the game, finding servers with people on it can be a real struggle already, newbie or not, i like to see someone on the track at 2pm in the afternoon.

oh yeah and Ash is a safe bloke, he helped me loads in the past too.
