Ok i cleared up all my startup processes. still no change as yet.
may update my mobo bios. risky stuff.
im usually the kind to format c: and put a new windows on, but this time i feel the urge to fight it and try to learn to keep my PC free of stuff and running good so...ive gone to the extent of reinstalling LFS though.
running out of things to try. need to tinker with graphics options more I guess. my system should be able to handle AA and nicer graphics im sure, but i cant. i really want it racing nicely like when i first got the PC.
ive updated direct x too. seems im getting slight performance increases but still getting majorly bogged down when theres more than 1 car in view. its a bit risky because if your back end steps out in a corner and the fps is at 5 you cant correct it and can cause an accident if you fishtail badly in the lag...
I need to fine tune my running processes, how can i do that, thats one thing i havent done, is there a program that stops things running...
some more info on my specs:
SATA 190GB (drive 1 127GB free, drive 2 81GB free)
Windows XP pro
USB devices:
self powered hub
logitech DFP
microsoft mouse
ipod dock
ADSL modem
HP printer
ive got the same thing, ive defragged and installed new drivers installed new LFS folder and still get 4 fps when there is cars on the track. my windows is up to date and i have only 50% full hdd. when i updated my gfx drivers i got a good performance increase and smoother play but still major reductions in frame rate when cars are in view. like 90 fps when im alone then if i see 1 or 2 cars i get 5-10 fps major difference.
ive a p4 3.4 and a geforce 6800 graphics 2 gig of ddr memory @ 333mhz (it says in the bios a 500 mhz option but i havent tried that?)
not got any anti aliasing on and all is set to performance mode.
recently installed programs:
a bunch of annoying hp software for a new usb 2 printer that i got
itunes cos of ipod xmas pressie
ive run adaware and cleaned out the files and ive got norton anti virus running, ive tried LFS with av on and off both same results.
ive tried tinkering with some graphics like LOD and shadows but still not luck. ive got it running in 1280x1024 pixels.
well someone has stated that they may get smoke from damage, i have asked a simple question does damage to the suspension cause smoke and this guy is saying read the thread properly. to me, that is hardly missing the point of the thread.
if asking a question, "does damage to the suspension cause smoke" is really missing the point of this topic then really. shoot me.
Please read this, this time, read it with your eyes. I am clearly telling you that the thread is not about hot spots. The thread is about why this guys tyres are smoking going up the road.
Hot spots are the most obvious reason, like I said. That doesnt mean we cant talk about what else may cause it. So stop telling people to re read the thread when they are clearly thinking about the original posters issue.
Please actually quote my text in which youre replying to. Because I havent suggested LFS should ignore drifters. Im just stating pure fact on what the game is sold as. If thats too much for you to bare then I am sorry, I didnt make the LFS homepage. I didnt name the game and I sure as didnt design it or set the values of the lock myself. Did I?
Im just telling you exactly what LFS says on the tin.
but is it the only reasons why the tyre smokes on the straights, that is exactly why we are asking if it could be other reasons such as damage or crashing! Sheesh.
the original thread starter was asking why his wheels would be smoking on straights. its not actually about hot spots, that however is the most obvious reason. maybe you mis understood the issue .
LFS world also lists the type of racer as Drag. Does it means LFS should have all the additions that available to drag on all the cars? no people drag race the Racing vehicles. Because this is a racing simulator. Not a drag simulator. Nor a Drift simulator. Its not advertised as this. However the option is there on LFS world because people do use it for that purpose. It welcomes drifters sure. The game wasnt made for drifters.
does the wheel smoke if the suspension is damaged, like say you hit a wall lightly and got a small orange bar on F10 then would it change the alignment enough to cause smoke?
this is just an observation on my part. its not meant as hate im just bringing something to your attention. more power to you that you can and do use LFS for drifting as it appears to me it wasnt even intended for this purpose in the first place.
actually i thought it was spot on, well until the mini gets over the concrete wall then it goes a bit crazy.
my rear wheel was under load and when it hit the grass my car was severely unbalanced by it losing traction at the back and at speeds i was unable to correct for. i had full throttle too as i never expected it to launch to the left like that. i think having full throttle and the wheel under huge load in that chicane cause the car to lose it.
once im on the big body of grass, all i can do is slide the car sideways to try and reduce speed but if you look closely it gets airborn at a little rut and then flips over.
what does everyone else think, looks realistic to you?
im not really sure about the setups, ive had a little try and tinkered with my own setups but i cant get my head round it. i use others setups who really know about mechanics and physics, im such a noob hehe. i think it allows me to actually have more fun racing and get better hot laps than if i made my own sets, i would be so damn slow otherwise. im not fast now even with other peoples setups, much slower, but i would be worse off if i did setups too. slowly over time i am picking things up, learning more about lines, braking, and techniques to get the best corner exiting speeds you can, which in racing has helped me to really tuck up behind others cars and make passes down the straights instead of risking corner moves that i think would be unsafe i now know how to get the best exit from said corner and make a safer move later on in the race.
learning from a hotlap, then taking it to a race track and adapting it to suit cars around you, on the track etc is definately advantageous. theres no point just following the car ahead of you, he might make mistakes and take different lines. you need to go find the line from hotlapping IMO and then take it to the races.
hi. im not a drifter. and i guess im about to post something that is on the side of the racers. however i am not knowledgable enough about motorsports/ engines to actually have a creditable view here.
but, to add a little something to the brew thats going here.
Live for speed. The title of our lovely game. its not called Live for drift.
Ok, so a big portion of the community is drifters, they have adopted Live for speed the online 'racing' simulator for their drifting. I am pretty sure the game was never described to you as a drift game before you bought it? You purchased a racing simulator. Are using it for something other than what it was designed for yet are asking for changes + additions to the game to suit your drifting. Where as there is a million more important racing additions to be put into this racing simulator.
im sorry guys, until a online drifting simulator is made and is designed for this purpose and sold to you as a drifting simulator, you may have to take a back seat and make do with what youve got!
This sounds really harsh, but to me this is a hard fact which you have overlooked. You cant say I purchased this game for drifting so please keep us drifters happy!
