what bugs are really that bad? if its the crash physics, dont crash or get a better imagination, if its the sound get a subwoofer, if its the nose high thing then just be open minded and realise aerodynamics arnt quite the same here but its very similar. and things can only get better.

for an "unfinished" game, which is dont think it really is, its quite bug free.

Quote from thisnameistaken :Yes, but...

The rear look function (as far as I can tell) looks over the shoulder of whichever direction you last looked. So if you look left, then behind, you get left shoulder, right then behind is right shoulder.

With this in mind I set this up:

< = Look left
|_ = Look left
\/ = Look behind
_| = Look right
> = Look right

I set up the diagonals too because my D-pad is a bit wobbly and I don't want to accidentally hit the diagonals and get no response. With this setup I can press left or right, then drag my thumb to down, and get the appropriate rear view.

how did you set that up, in game i cant get diagonals and i cant find any keystrokes that are for diagonal thats why i use the paddle buttons. when i use my d pad for views and use down to look back it doesnt do a left and right rear view version...

ok i decided to put my view left and right on the paddle buttons. why? because if you press Left first then right button it will look backwards. and if i press right first and then the left button it will look backwards. but it will rotate that direction to get full view. on a D pad you cant do this as you cant press both at the same time. Does that make sense? If its clear enough I wish i could tell more people about this...........

anyway, im a little drunk (a lot to some people pfft) but my other button setups are as follows.

indicators on D pad are set like this:
left <
right>
hazardsV
Off^

Start is set to Shift R (via prolifer)

Select is set to Shift S (via profiler)

sec ill come back with any other stuff i set

having so many buttons at your fingertips is like a kid in a candy shop!

going to spend some time getting it setup through the profiler, that cycle idea is really good

ah tristan thats how some people can do "pass left" or "pass right" without spinning out by pressing Ctrl-F1 while at top speed lol

i shall just get used to holding the wheel firmly enough so that oscillating stops. its a bit like if you let go of a road cars steering wheel i suppose, it wouldnt always go straight sometimes it might start doing that, i havent really noticed it today so might just happen sometimes which i dont mind.

the calibration thing is strange it just happens sometimes, but it usually settles after i center the axis once or twice.

loving it though, single seaters are drivable at last, drifting is impossible but the racing is 10x better.

just a bit noisy!
I got a wheel yesterday....

what a lovely welcoming thread topic, i hope you didnt cringe too much.

anyway its a Logitech DFP and i got my friend to buy one at the same time too! Hell be getting LFS asap i suppose.

ive never had a wheel before so its all new to me, and im having a few issues with it. ok here goes.

1) I have the wheel setup as 720 degrees in XP, and in LFS its set at 720 but when I drive the wheel loses its center position and I have to go to options and re-center it by clicking the "C" next to the wheel axis. does everyone have to do this regularly or am I doing something wrong?

2) Ok, I heard of some oscillation too, ive been getting some. in the FO8 at top gear on a straight if i take my hands off the wheel lightly, as if i were lightly holding the wheel of a car in one hand, its starts to oscillate. is that just because im not fighting the feedback (not holding wheel tightly enough) and its oscillating or is that a setup thing too?

3) Can I setup the other buttons on my wheel to perform other actions from in-game. I would like Start to do Shift R, and Select to do Escape key. and L2 and R2 for my indicators, is it possible to do that with LFS without being able to do it from options menu.

Thanks all!!

i got myself a wheel! a DFP

its lovely, and when you put those settings in you start to feel those front tyres more like you would expect, little twitches here and there, a little rumble over the curbs but not too much to make driving hard.

try it you may like it .
does anyone tweak their rallycross setups?

is the default [Rallycross] setups good as they are or do you modify your setups for that too, is there any changes you make to the default rallyx setups that you change on every car, like you would increase your maximum lock for drifting?

i dont mean tuning for the tracks individually, but is there anything about those defaults that make them as bad as [Hard track] setup for example?

nooo where you brake from 6th gear down to 2nd before the split, that grass on that hairpin can be a real pain in the whatsit.

not all sharp turns, some have a little strip of grass before you reach the gravel trap, or like the hairpin in AS Nat theres grass right up to the barrier (oh boy does that sometimes give you an embarassing slow slide into the barrier)

i think as you roll over all the glass should crack then on the last bump as you come to a stop it shakes it all out. anyone for a convertible??!

they do go in the LFS/data/settings folder... not sure why you cant see it, make sure its the right file type and filename, and make sure its for the right car.

check other cars and see if you can see the setup elsewhere

i did say that i wasnt going to give up on LFS i did listen to the help i got. there is tonnes of good guys here. i know your ok funnybear it wasnt just you who made me flip. theres loads of animosity toward new guys starting out, in the servers from players too, it isnt just the forum. i got the heart and the time and effort to put into this driving sim even if i dont quite have the skill.

so far i can only drive the FWD cars im not very good in RWD yet (ive not driven a RWD on the edge in real life either yet) but i spent last night drifting for ages and i was getting the hang of that eventually. the LX4 is fun i can drive that but the really fast RWD cars get me. just one time i got used to one and was managing to do a full race, but by the next day i had forgotten how to keep it smooth and was back at square one.

i decided not to keep switching cars and tracks, and not actually getting used to the feel of anything i was driving. i think you get much better results if you practice the same one over and over. FWD are something that i can relate to from real life driving experiences so i decided if theres a platform i should start out on and practice hard with, its the XFR.

im also trying to force myself to mess about with the setups so i can learn how to make my own race setups, though im not sure if im having much of a result. though i did make my own drift setup and that was the best results i had yet, i changed the rear tyres stiffened the suspension and increased the gearing a bit and maximum lock and i had made a setup that suited me! though how good it actually is i dont know, but it feels nice to drift with and i guess thats what im looking for in a setup there!

and im still debating wether to get a wheel or not...

hi, just a note...

if you decide to tweak a setup you have downloaded, or have been sent in a server from a player, do this so you dont ruin the setup you have been sent.

click the setup you downloaded, then click NEW in the games garage, and make a copy of it, then tweak away to your hearts content. and delete if it goes wrong and make another copy.

ok

so if i had like 2 wheels dirty on one side of the car, the car would skid to one side? or would all 4 wheels lock up?

need to start watching that tyre monitor more

does it affect braking in a straight line at all? would i lock up at a brake point where i would normally be ok?

just take it easy for a while till they are clean then.
scrubbing dirt off the wheels

if you get dirt on your wheels how do you get it off, can you wheel spin and itll go away faster or make gradual turns up the track to clean the tyres? does it come off the tyres at a fixed rate, how do you get your tyres clean? or just leave it and keep in mind they are dirty?

Quote from sgt.flippy :I think paint is easier than paint shop, I would use it just to have it easy making lines, and text. In some ways paint shop is just too difficult for some simple operations. Like pasting a new image into something, I always have a difficulty trying to turn the image.

use the shift key when you rotate and scale to keep its original dimensions, the shift ctrl and alt keys will modify the cursor to allow you to make it a bit easier on some actions...

shift will also make it rotate in 45 degree stages too

dont know if that helps at all?

are you too stupid to look at the time / date that was posted?

edit: oh i realise you are trying to provoke here, like an idiot. i hope everyone here is proud of you and all the other newbie bashers. seeing as its mainly your fault that you caused all this shit to happen with your sarcy comments to make yourself feel bigger than you really are.
