i was in a race yesterday and i was out in front (i know, amazing isnt it) and i knew 2nd place was a much faster car than I was. it was a 5 lap race and i was on lap 3 and could see 2nd place in my mirror slowly gaining on me, i knew i would have to fight to stay in first place. I dont often defend my position, i will often just let a car by but as i was in first something took over my whole body and didnt want to let him by.

so i took all my corners slightly inside and tried to not leave any blatant gaps for him to get on the inside line, that is about as far as my "defense" goes, if he got up the inside of me that place was going to be his i werent going to give too much of a fight for it because it was obvious who was faster, i tried to defend it the best way i could and it obviously would fail at some time so why risk a crash that could take us both out.

in the end i went wide into a corner and lost my position anyway. i guess i had a bit of a defeatist attitude from the start.

i love the new patch, the pack racing is what im after and its certainly got more of it. i definately found the cars easier to drive, and i think the game is much better for it!

Quote from Becky Rose :This isn't the blue flag debate. We're talking multiple crash per corner drivers some of whome have difficulty navigating a strait

yes but im pretty sure a yellow flag was waving if the guy crashed in the chicane no? if the guy loses it on the straight and you crash into him, you are kind of at fault too you know that right? its not just about gunning it round that city track and hoping everyone parts out of your way, you need to deal with backmarkers like any racing driver has to in a track as tight as that...

well i would like to see the manouvers you guys pulled as you passed these newbies, did you let off of the accelerator? did you slow down and wait for the right moment to pass like any other car on the track or did you just stick to your line and pow! there they are in your way?

im not having a dig but sometimes people dont even give a newbie a chance to do the right thing before they have been hit by someone doing 40 mph more than them round a bend.

i dont think seperating the LFS players any more will help the game, finding servers with people on it can be a real struggle already, newbie or not, i like to see someone on the track at 2pm in the afternoon.

oh yeah and Ash is a safe bloke, he helped me loads in the past too.

look for smoke in ya mirrors to see when youre locking up, the tyre may even give off puffs of smoke after the corner, while going up the straight if its cooked enough.

im not exactly expert .... but...

try to think about the weight of the car shifting when you enter the corner, try not to throw the weight to one side as theres more chance of it going sideways, same with losing speed, try not to back off the accelerator too quickly as the front wheels slow down so fast the car will go unstable, try to match the speed first then hold the same revs through the corner.

now, hopefully you wont hit me when i spin out.

i love to race south city, that track is so good, always makes for a good race. you get damage but carry on, the times are always close.

i love all the cars though, i prefer closed cockpits to single seaters. XFR is my favourite car of all time for reasons already mentioned.

make a roll up and smoke it but i usually try to light it in the corner and trying to steer with elbows is not recommended.

excellent thread

ok well heres my idea for that stuck car thing...

change the reset to put the car at the side of the track. so many times ive reset or someone else has reset and caused a crash. theres nowt wrong with using reset if youre on your roof or the car is disabled, but currently it puts you in a weird place.

Shift S after crash!

Hi Please keep this topic flame free

I have been thinking about this, and still rather undecided, i figure i would bring it up here and see what everyone else thinks.

ok first point is, I know that in oval racing that shift S as soon as you crash is really important due to the speeds and close racing that goes on, people are doing hotlaps non stop and interuptions are a real pain.

ive seen people doing this on regular race tracks though, but personally i dont like to shift S as soon as im on the grass or something? i like to make the most out of the sim and if my car goes off track and into the gravel, i like to stick my hazards on then watch the rest of the race. i dont mean i sit in the track with my hazards on illepall i mean like, if i crash, i like to get off the track and park up like real racing.

also when i see a guy lose control infront of me and im trying to take avoiding action he Shift S and disappears. i think, damn mate you didnt have to Shift S, thats just racing! ... now im pretty sure that theres some guys out there who think "why the hell didnt you shift S" in that same situation.

sometimes you just have to understand that if youre following close behind someone who makes a mistake that no matter what happens an accident is on the cards, there isnt enough stopping distance or time to react, but sometimes its fun to just play out those moments in racing where it goes wrong, i love avoiding things on the track or waiting for that moment when the guy makes a mistake and i can slip by him or get caught up in the mahem! i dont wanna see the guy insta-pit though

discuss? or totally boring ?

well my original topic was trying to find out if we already did get penalised for not using a manual clutch... with LFS at its current stage of development i think its not a good time to give clutch users an advantage, but in the future when the game models engine damage / clutch damage and engine stalls etc then it would add more realism.

also what about autocross or rallycross does manual clutch give you an advantage there?

well that is good to know, i think if i ever get some new pedals in the future i will consider a clutch but for now ill keep it as it is.

thank you for the replies.

can usually tell if i am pushing too hard if the tyres are red before the race is over, big bright red tyres says to me "please take care of me"!

remember its not all about winning. its about having fun. and demo players only race that same combo so they are extraordinarily fast there (i find).

if you got the license you get a wider variety of cars and tracks to choose so you can settle on a combo you feel comfortable with.

car skins add an edge to the whole experience too
