theres been a few races where you have to alter your line to keep it clean im not just talking about a hotlap im talking about while racing you might have to dodge a spinner and end up on the grass. or if someone makes a pass on you, you have to give them space but it might end up that you get on the grass when exiting the corner, i see others getting on the grass there too at times.
on AS nat theres some parts there also when the track dips down and you have some quite fast corners where you get up to the curbs for a smoother line, sometimes you get caught out and end up on the grass at a high speed and i can never recover it if it goes wrong there. i dont know the corner number/name its the section after the 2 hairpins leading up to the final hairpin before the final chicane/gravel traps....
its just one of those things, wondered who everyone else reacts to going on the grass thats all
it happens a lot on this track when racing, sometimes you go a bit wide on the sweeping corners and end up with all 4 wheels on the grass.
sometimes i just back off the accelerator and coast back onto the track, thats how i would do it in a real car. but in LFS theres times when your on the grass but you know that in 500 yards or more, you WILL hit a barrier, and you are usually going so fast that theres only a short time to react to it. as soon as you hit that grass you know you dont have the turning ability to make that corner.
ive been trying several ways to react to this situation but they all seem as bad as each other.
if youre in the lead pack of cars that is on lap 1, and you get on the grass you want to get back on and keep up with them, not just slide wide till you slam into the barrier and damage the car. thats what ive been trying to do.
i guess some are just unavoidable if you are going that fast
so, youre in an XFR bombing it round your favourite long sweeping corner in 6th gear but somehow you drift wide and end up in the grass in 6th gear with a barrier infront of you....
ive tried a few things so far without much sucess
1) tried braking and going down the gears only to hit the barrier still because your on grass.
2) tried handbrake to get the car to drift a bit so you can put the power on and "pull" yourself away from the barrier.
3) pump the brakes going down the gears only to still hit the barrier.
4) slam the brakes full on, drop to first gear and hope it stops in time.
so how do you do it and what should be the best way to avoid that sideswipe with a barrier.
i use the full cockpit view just for a better sense of immersion in the game, i just use the default view, like in a real car a lot of the time you cant see because of that pillar but you forget its there, you begin to just look "through" the pillar. just trust the fact that where the curb is hidden by the pillar by only an inch or two that nothing can fit in that gap Same as anything close to the car around the body that you cant see, you learn to know that there is a chunk of metal around you, become one with the car and it will feel like an extension of your body.
well enough hippy talk,
how can you adjust the cockpit so you can see all of the rear view mirror? (not side mirror) in some cars i can only see a small bit of that mirror, it would be nice if i could see the whole thing
if you dont know every city in the UK then why make such a lame comment. if you want to hijack this thread by digging up a closed one then youll have to do it by yourself, or maybe youll get this guy to wreck on your server when you ban him for bad spelling.
i downloaded the "best of cateram" video at the top and wow, that was really really good to watch.
to see those signalling to bump draft each other up the track was crazy and they really made up a lot of ground on the track. there was one point where he bump drafted him and one guy past 2 other cars down the straight good stuff.
it looks like the cars are sliding at 90 degrees far too long, im not a drifter or experienced in these things but it looks like they are throwing the car 90 degrees at full speed and sliding sideways for too long, then when the wheels grip it accelerates too fast and when they put wheels of the cars on the grass/mud (on the track bit) they dont have trouble with it
the drifting ive seen on tv is never that fast its more controlled at a slower pace i didnt see one drift from a slow speed there, just throwing the car 90 and using sideways motion to brake and then wheel spin away?
they seem heavy and solid but whenver i see those white "advertising" type boards at the side of the track on a race on tv they are made of polystyrene and just disintegrate on contact.
ok ill give you the example that i am thinking of when i said that.
i downloaded the AS nat setup from team inferno which was great cos i was in the lead bunch until i made a mistake or two which would send me to the back
the server i joined was a 7 lapper on AS nat standard, it felt like a long track and with a nice careful race with limited mistakes, by lap 6 or 7 my tyre wear is just creeping in to affect my corners.
the insides of the two front wheels are bright red, and i started noticing that the inside tyre wall was bright red after the first 1 or 2 laps. They hold out for the full race length but i couldnt drive without the tyre monitor on and fear of a puncture (which never actually happened). i think it was affecting my lap times.
i knew that maybe the setup is not for 7 lap races, maybe a 5 lapper would be perfect but its good to know how to adjust it for that extra lap or two.
i have already loosened the suspension a bit, well i think i did! i made the anti roll bars a tiny bit looser and rebound damping a touch softer. it felt like the car did have a tendancy to "hop" about on the road and things like the 3rd gear chicane it felt like the car was bouncing round the corners a bit.
maybe i adjusted the wrong things first, i might redownload it and try again starting at those things first
edit: oh yeah if i adjust the camber of the front wheels does it affect my braking much, AS nat has some long straight parts which go into tight 2nd gear corners so i need to shave tonnes of speed off in places
my favourite car is the XF GTR and the UFR too but i like the XF GTR a little bit more for its hot hatch feeling.
i find myself constantly thinking of tyre wear in every corner, and it makes your heart sink to see the little puffs of smoke from a lock up.
ive got some fast setups that i use, downloaded and received in the game and i usually tweak them about a bit to suit my braking, because i find that really wears those tyres out fast.
Can i take a setup that has S2 tyres on it, and just swap it straight to S3 or S4? will it completely unbalance the setup ive got?
if i find the setup is wearing the tyres down too quick, other than driving style, whats the best tweak that can be adjusted to save tyres without having to completely mess up the setup??
i thought it was 1 for a single player replay (.spr) and if you are online you do 2 for a multiplayer replay (.mpr) ?
sometimes i get the message "replay is not being recorded" i dont think you can do replays from practice mode or qualifying? i dont know i got a bit confused by it but somehow it worked.
you never know, this is a hot kitchen and if you want to stand the heat here you need something more than any human body can bear. LFS doesnt need engines fires, theres plenty to get burned by already. illepall don your racing suit before racing and coming to the forums.
