Will We Ever Drive the LX8 GTR??
Rotary

I was kinda hoping it would make a triumphant return to S2 in the new patch.

If LFS can handle a F1 car, surely it can handle the LX8 GTR now?? It's the prick tease of LFS and I want to bloody drive it!!

And where are the grid girls? Must me make more threads requesting them??

Been at work all day and soon I lose my Patch T virginity (didn't get to play with Ms Patch S went to bed 10 mins before it came out. Damn you sleep before work), I'm getting a little nervous and excited, reminds me of that time in my car many moons ago when this girl and I...

for the return of the LX8 GTR

Solution...

yell "BEEEEEEEEEEEP" when you approach a slower car...

Horns are to warn slower people of a car behind them?? So, tell me, WTF is the point of mirrors then - to do one's makeup??

I'm not a F1 fan but I do understand the importance of this car to LFS.. it's one of those make or break moments really.

F1 is without doubt the biggest motorsport event in our world (anything American doesn't count - they need to learn a world series means you actually have to compete against other countrys, not homeland states )... if the BF1 is a success, well, it could mean HUGE things for LFS. Knowing the DEVS past work, the BF1 will make not break LFS and I want to be a part of it even though F1 isn't on my list of top motorsports

(That's fairly bold of me to say, but I'm confident in the DEVS talent.)

Quote from Gunn :Great topic guys.

The white car was at fault and although he was faster, the leading car was really making him work for it, that front guy looked like he was trying hard to keep his position. great stuff.

**This shouldn't really be in the general LFS discussion but will leave it here for a while because it promotes the benefits of clean racing in LFS.

Huh? But it's two LX4's racing... oh... hehe

Those cars look like fun to drive

Further to my above post, this might help explain what I mean…

A live raft designed to handle 20 people is drifting in the ocean with 10 Australians onboard. They come across a group of 10 Irishmen alive but floating in the ocean. As the group of Australians approach the Irish they start to argue about if the boat can handle them:

“10 Irishmen will be too much of a burden to the boat” someone says.

… ??? … what, so another 10 Australians won’t be?? Where’s the logic in that?

10 + 10 = 20. The boat can handle 20 people. How would it matter if they are Australian or Irish? How does it matter if they are S1 or S2 licensed? If something is designed to carry 20 people, whether it be a boat or LFS server, then it doesn’t matter who they are.

I can’t make any logical sense out of your post on how it would be a burden to S2 servers, just like its not logical to think a boat with 10 Australians onboard designed to take 20 people can’t handle a further 10 because they are Irish… it just doesn’t add up. You said so yourself; 12 (S2 people) + 5 (S1 people) = 17 on the server. Well, 12 (S2 people) + 5 (S2 people) = 17 people on the server too. What am I missing? What would it matter? Since when is 17 not 17?

Anywho, this is pointless. I doubt there are even enough S1 people out there to warrant the recoding of LFS to makes this idea possible.

Quote from (SaM) :Of course spectators suck bandwidth from the server.

Take an S2 server with 12 people racing. Now if let's say the S1 players weren't able to spectate, the server has to send and receive data from 12 players.

Now, if our 5 happy S1 players were able to spectate, that same server would now have to send data to 17 people and receive data from 12. -> more bandwidth used, causing a slower server than without spectators.

Simple math.
Just let them play the great demo, look at the quadripple million movies and screenshots of S2 and buy S2.

You obviously didn't read my post very well... I never said spectators don't suck bandwidth I said "... whats the differene between a race that has 15 spectators and 5 racers and the next race that has all 20 people racing?"

At the end of the day its still only 20 people in the one server isn't it?? I also mentioned that spectators *may* use less bandwidth, but I don't know that for fact.

You mentioned simple math, heres some for you.

20 + 0 = 20
15 + 5 = 20

If a server is set up to handle 17 connections then how could what you posted be an issue?? Its not like anyone uses extra bandwidth just because they are S1 and not S2. If the server is set to take 17 then it doesn't matter at all, it can handle it 17 people. period. Simple math again isn't it??

And B2B@300 post is a further explaination of my post.

So to clarify and make it simple... it wouldn't matter what type of license someone has thats in a server, if a server has 12 in it but set up to take 17 people and 5 S1 people join - how is that goning be worse than if it was 5 S2 people joining instead of the S1 people? At the end of the day its still 17 people in a server that is set up to handle 17 people.... think about it using simple math. 12 + 5 = 17...

Quote from (SaM) :People connecting to servers to watch the server would suck bandwidth off from the host. That sucks. And the demo racers arent even paying for it.

Being able to watch replay files from S1 or S2 by anyone is another story and shouldnt be that hard. But what is 24 Pounds to be able to see and drive all?

(Funny fact: while trying to type the POUND sign, I launched LFS because I pressed ALT + L; my LFS shortcut! I forgot about it! Oh happy days!)

So whats the differene between a race that has 15 spectators and 5 racers and the next race that has all 20 people racing? I don't see how that could logically suck bandwidth off the host because at the end of the day the total number of people is still 20.

If anthing, I believe spectators probably use less bandwidth because their car positions don't need to be updated to the other racers, therefore, that to me seems like it would suck less bandwidth

I like the idea of S1 people being able to access S2 servers but limited to what is unlocked. I think the main issue is security though, I think I might have read something about this by a dev before but can't confirm that.

It would give the S1 people a taste of what they are missing...

Quote from Klutch :Is it worth it? Ive been drifting in the demo version for some time now.
And i feel its time to upgrade, is it worth the $56(AUD)

And if me and a friend went halfs in it, could we both play at the same time?

Thanks!

Hey Klutch,

Check out this Aussie forum, has an LFS sub-section (where most Aussie LFS racers/drifters hang out) and at the bottom of the main page is the AustralAsian Drifting forum which might be of some interest to you

I'm fairly sure most people there are S2 licensed

Hmm, dunno, will check when I get home (subject to my memory)... I think my S1 folder was in quite a few Gb's, although I did spend a long time downloading a crap load of high res skins using LFS skin manager.

It wasn't my cat, someone else's... would have taken a fair effort for me to feed a cat on the otherside of the world!

Hey, that would have been interesting...

If it was my cat it wouldn't have been sleeping on the couch, it would have been ripping it up with its claws then running away as I told it off.

My res is 1024x768 32 bit @ 75Hz. I could run it at a higher res, but my monitor hertz my eyes at higher res then that, due to the fact it can only run them at 60Hz. My monitor sucks.

Running a lower res to get better FPS is better than running a higher res just so the game looks pretty.. much better!

I remember some guy spamming a link to his webcam showing his cat sleeping on the couch... He posted the link every couple of minutes. It was pretty boring, all his cat did was sleep, we all thought it was dead

He never once got a warning for that (or so I assume, as he didn't stop posting it and wasn't banned). I posted a link once (whilst watching a "dead" cat) and it was the only link I've ever posted in that channel and got an instant threat of ban... Anywho, that was a year or so ago and I've never been in the channel since because it's as boring as watching a "dead" cat.

Edit: So yo can post links and still not be classed off topic, try this:

"I love LFS, the UF1000 is fun. Here's a link to my Mini."

Or

"Some cars in LFS are so slow, just like this Volvo in this link."

Not only are you on topic, but you comparing LFS to real life stuff which is what LFS is trying to simulate but in a fictional way

Edit 2: And if you want to get real tricky, try this:

"I love the background imagines of the LFS tracks, heres a link to a mountain that looks similar."

or

"Smashed my RB4 up huge the other night on the Blackwood rally track, just like this rally car did in this link."

What I love about the LFS tracks is the consistent FPS I get even with the game at max details and 8xaa/16xaf.

Other sims such as GTL, which I play often, should try and achieve the same sort of thing... if Eric can do it, why can't they

On some tracks in GTL I'll be getting 80fps behind 6 cars, go around another corner and, bang, down to 20fps... ARGH!! I'm to lazy to change the default graphic settings as most tracks range from 50-80fps which is OK by my standards (and the cars look sexy), just not all tracks. I do only use 4xaa/8xaf to help FPS in GTL.

So not only can I run LFS at max detail and never get bad FPS (lowest for me 30fps when behind a full grid, never less than that though) but it also looks damn good. Car models are not as good as GTL, but still look very nice.

Well done Eric, love your work mate!

All welcome, mainly LFS but other race sims and normal Australian pissing about.

hehe, all is good and only 35 days to go and then little one will begin its LFS career... dunno how good a new born will be at LFS though, probably better than the cat...

Top thread XC. Sarsi is still alive, you can see him at the ARSE forum often (maybe hes scared he will die before S3 is out).

This is my baby from earlier this year... I have an awesome mud track less than 5 mins from my house... woohoo! That's out the front of the car wash which is the halfway point between my house and the mud track... lol... it must be fate

Anywho, shes now fitted with some decent rubber (instead of those useless small profile road tyres in the picture), extractors and 2inch exhaust. Now, if only the misses allowed me to buy that lifted Nissan Patrol with 35inch tyres then I could have some serious offroad fun. Oh well, when we can afford two cars I'll get an FJ40 Landcruiser instead

I love the open diff in the UF1000, if the car is setup well it rarely spins the inside wheel during corners anyway.
