I want a TVR Griffith 500...

I have a solution, lets all agree to disagree! We can't make everyone think like ourselves, so why bother pushing the point further?

I have to agree a lot with that review (except the sound part not all sounds are samples in LFS ) although for me netcode is far more important than polished sounds and physics and I would have scored LFS a little higher (6.5 or a 7)... that's just my opinion however.

LFS S2 Alpha was not the revolutionary version of S1 I was expecting. I guess it was over hyped. The reason why I play LFS is because it provides what I want, close racing on a solid netcode. Since I mostly only play online in any game I want the netcode to be solid. I own GTR but it does nothing but waste HD space ATM, only because its netcode left a bitter $80AUD taste in my mouth.

I think its unrealistic for anyone to think 5/10 is unfair... its completely fair, its just a reflection of the reviewers opinion of this title. He doesn't have to like/love everything he reviews, if he did then I'd be questioning his creditability (can you say endorsement cheque? ).

And at least Richard didn't have a go at the community like that other review... now that guy is someone without creditability, what kind of nut insults the entire LFS community when he only tried the demo anyway??

I might try your settings tweak... looks good.

My black momo, after a good 2 years of use, finally broke something... the black brake spring which makes it feel like a brake pedal. I don't have a sqaush ball an haven't had the chance to buy one, so I cut a tennis ball in half and shoved that in the hole... somewhat dodgy, but at least the brake doesn't feel as soft as the throttle now!!

It felt like the master cyclinder had gone.... one minute the car was braking fine and the next the pedal was on the floor - the only difference was the brakes still worked (unlike when the master cyclinder goes - not a fun feeling).

Ironically, I'M the moderator designated to verify the validity of add-ons on these forums.
Now you MUST find that part funny a bit

That is funny

Shame on the offenders. Kudos to Funnybone, his mods help keep the life in LFS for some while we wait for the next big patch

Quote from Tweaker :I like this idea actually. But to have a specific car that is non-editable, well... why not just have a Hotlap mode that takes every car in LFS, and LFSW could have a 'Factory' or 'Stock' hotlap rank, where all the cars would use the stock setup supplied. This would be pretty fun in my opinion, considering it brings in a WHOLE nother aspect of hotlapping, rather than being beat by someone who uses some stupid bogus setup to beat your best time :zombie:. This would rely on skill, but it would be fun for everyone, because overall it just might determine your overall skill and rank for a fast time in the LFS racing community.

Of course, LFS would need perfected default/stock setups, but that isn't so hard. To me, setups only account for about 50% of how your driving preference is, the other half, or even more than half, is your skill level to actually drive fast. I could take any average setup that doesn't fit 'my style' and after about 20 or more laps, it flows with me, and I can get fast times. Of course the setup has to be correctly made for it to be done, but there are loads of fast sets for one car/track combo, and they all feel different in some way. But that does not mean you cannot get a fast time in it just because it doesn't suit you. If you test drive real cars before buying, you aren't going to go and change steering, caster, suspension etc. right away, cars have limitations and you have to deal with it when making a decision before buying. Unlike LFS (where changing loads of settings on a seemingly stock car is possible), this kind of limitation of having a 'stock' car feel is lacking in LFS.

Because of that, some of you guys here are way to picky about using your own setups to fit your needs/preference, it almost leaves no breathing room for people to even make a suggestion like this. LFS needs an alternative from full customization, so it won't single out people just wanting to drive and see how the cars feel. A horrible oversteery car is so true in reallife, it can be fun, or it could be terrible. So what!

How hard could it be to drive a stock LFS car and shoot for a fast time? And comparing it to reallife, this idea relates to how most sprint races are done (like on Best Motoring, and other car test shows). LFS needs a realistic default setup for each car ---good ones--- , because right now the stock sets need improvements and/or the physics do.

That said, I actually think this idea has a purpose to be honest... would show skills overpower setup knowledge to be fast. I'd give a shot at that specific rank anyday, and since hotlapping is not my thing, it surprises even myself that I approve of hotlapping .

:iagree: 111.245%

Just think of it as driving a car fresh from the showroom floor.. how many new cars fresh from the showroom allow you to adjust half the things LFS does and by 0.001 too??

The only adjustable parts for this idea should be tyre pressures, tyre type (road_super, road_normal etc) and fuel load.

Quote from Scirocco :Air for what? If you mean for the radiators, the mid/rear engined vehicles that I'm familiar with have the radiators up front.

Err, what about the air intake?? You know that bit that sucks air into the engine to mix with and burn the fuel, right? It would be stupid to have that at the front when the engines in the rear. It's even more stupid to have the air intake in the rear engine bay with no vents to feed it cooler outside air (or let the hot air escape at least)... a well placed air intake vent in a car can feed loads of air into the engine at speed - thats a good thing. Just like people, engines need to breath decent air - imagine breathing in very very hot air all the time - no thanks.

I think its very odd the FZ has no inlets/outlet vents... actually I was thinking about this the other day too

I agree with Tweak. If realism is LFS goal, then it needs detail to be convincing.

Here's some screenies to show where a Porsche (which is a rear engine car) has vents.

Side air intake on a 911 Turbo.

911 Carrera. Has no side air intake vents, but does have this vent above the engine.

Quote from ColeusRattus :Just press Esc after crossing the finnish line, and - whoop-di-doo - all the forces are gone

And people, dont get all offensive over such a small matter! Sure, it sucks if your hardware gets damaged by being crashed after race. But chances are that it would have broken quite soon anyway, possibly during a race, which would be little bit more inconvenient. So banning for crashing AFTER the race is not a solution, if you dont like such a behaviour. Rather go to the pits, or at least try to park somewhere not easily accesible. (like at the walls inside a sharp turn behind the apex...).

And as a final word: You all are childish! Take that!

ouch!

PS. Don't make the solution to simple!

Quote from Slartibartfast :Just out of curiosity...

How do you feel about cigarette smoking?

Urm ok, not sure where that question is leading? However, Its the individuals choice to smoke. Similar to how it is my choice to play demo derby after a race the has finished

Are you saying I need a smoke to calm down?? LOL

(I'm a non-smoker BTW)

Quote :Childish:

1. Marked by or indicating a lack of maturity; puerile: tired of your childish pranks.
2. Not complicated; simple.
3. Affected mentally by old age; senile.

Who wouldn't be offended by someone calling you childish for things different to what they seem acceptable?

I can play the dictionary game as well... lets take a look at the word game shall we.

Quote :Game:

2 a. A competitive activity or sport in which players contend with each other according to a set of rules: the game of basketball; the game of gin rummy.

LFS "simulates" car racing and car racing is known as Motor Sport. LFS is a game that simulates racing or a simulation of the game called motorsport played on your PC.

Maybe you need to look up the word simulates as well?

Thanks to www.dictionary.com

Quote :Now, if you where slamming into an opponents car after the race is done and over with, you would probably not only be facing charges of unsportsmanlike behaviour and a lot of costs for all the damage done. You would probably allso face a life time ban from the racetracks across the globe.
If you must crash into poeple, do it on a server where it's meant to crash into each other for fun. Do not do it on the average race server.

Thank you for stating the obvious about the "real world" situation - now I know why it never happens when I watch motor sport on TV.

Oh, I will do what I damn well like in the average server thank you very much. You are no-one to tell me or anyone here what we can and can not do. If you don't like it that is your problem. As you can see many people in LFS enjoy it, many don't. Lets all get over it and accept each others differences, OK?

Quote from X-Ter :Ramming into other drivers on purpose is chilish and just not fun. Those who find amusement in that sort of behaviour doesn't belong on a track, be it real or simulated.
I try my best to "live the simulation". After a race I like to cool down and bring my car back to the pits, like in real life. Getting hit during that lap is just as irritating as being hit during the race.

Oh sorry, looks like I've spent the last 2.5 years or more of LFS racing somewhere I don't belong, my bad. Thank you for your enlightment. I promise to follow the straight and narrow and not step out of the box that is considered by you to be "normal". Please send me the bible on being you so I can correct my ways and learn to not be myself and become one with your way of life.

It's a matter of opinion, learn to understand others have different views on what they can and can't do based on their own life experience and its up to them to make decisions. You are not our parents, get over it. Don't like it? Tell the person who hit you, spectate, change server, start a kick vote.... wow, so many choices yet you'd rather try to say people are childish because they don't enjoy life the way you do.

Sigh, now we have after race smash up prevention nazi's... Christ I'm sick of all the "You can't do it because I don't like it" cry babies in these forums.

Edit: Yes, I may be immature in some respects (meaning others see what I find as entertainment to be childish) but in the real life issues that actually matter I have a very healthy attitude (such as starting a family). LFS is just a PC "simulation" game FFS. I can't believe I let this stupid thread get to me!

Quote from Barroso :i only saw him once and as himself, it was a test for 16 player server i think, he asked in the forum for people and i joined in

I've only seen him once as himself and I believe it was then. I remember racing XR GT around FE Club reverse... I was a little laggy (more like very laggy) as I was on 56k in a euro server, but apparantly that was a good thing for the testing reasons. Most the time I spectated when there was a lot of players... I do remember beating him in a couple of races when my lag was minimal

this 'worrying trend' as you put it, has been going on since LFS has existed, i've NEVER seen a problem with it. as long as it's with peeps you know wont throw a wobbler over it

If you're afraid of breaking you're wheel turn the FF down to sensible levels, or get off the road entierly

Maybe make it like resetting the car - only works when stopped (or is it up to 5km/h?)

That way they have to either spectate or wait for the car to stop. If spectate, then there should be the option to stop people rejoining the track until race end.

Quote from Scawen :OT : I find that spelling "tonne" for the metric version, a bit annoying. If the word is pronounced the same, why did they make up a silly spelling for it?

OT: That's our English for you... words such as invalid are interesting though. Work mate needed to explain in a report that the client was an invalid. Very is easy to misread; "... which is difficult for Mr X as he is an invalid person"... "I'm a invalid, not invalid!!".

For the confused non-native English speakers:

invalid (in val'id) = not valid, null or void
invalid (in'və lid) = one who is chronically ill or disabled.

... and it looks like one won the race. He went to the bar for two drinks, his mate is coming along too. Should I sell my cell phone? We went there to steel their clothes. For Sale, one four year old who is at the fore of his class. ... and Rots finished a second behind second place!

It's all silly... and then theirs those parts of the world that have their own versions of English.

Sorry for OT and digging up the past
