ARGH i think if i could see more it would have a "seperated" grille, ie two grille pieces, but i can't for the life of me remember which car has that...though maserati but couldn't find a match....wish i had my car books here

Can't find a pic, but MGA Roadster, with some kind of weird aero kit...Altho the swoop of the body before the rear wheel arch is a little bit different....
Trawling google image for old cars, and i can't find anything closer atm...

Edit: I think you were laying hints about it being a triumph, but i can't find anything that they made with a cooling duct like that on the rear guard...Hope this isn't some weird prototype :/

Another Edit: ARGH i really want to know the answer to this one...lol, i never was much good at classic/vintage cars

EDIT: Some fullscreen function would be nice. Using dash @ 1024x768 and it would be nice to use it at full screen space!

+1 running one of my monitors at 800x600 just so i can use LFS dash is a bit of a pain (both my monitors are the same size)

Also, and i don't know if it is because using 2 monitors slows the performance of my gfx card (XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog) But LFS seemed to be a little more jittery when using VD on 1 monitor, LFS on the other. Haven't noticed it with one monitor (LFS + VD on same monitor), so i think its a hardware issue....

Didn't really like the tuning system in PS, thought it could have been done better, but wind testing a car, running it on the dyno after tuning, if a little more involved...yeah that would be pretty cool It would also be nice if the cars weren't just assigned to one dicipline, ie locked to that set of tracks...

I have the 360 version, and haven't tried it with a wheel..

Quote from driftoner :hey ..

if its in a ff wouldnt that be more commanly known as a torque steer?

IIRC torque steer is when the torque being transferred from the wheels to the ground causes the steering to "tug" one way or another. Generally cars with high output engines and a FF layout are most effected, i can't remember which does it more tho, those with an LSD, or those with an open centre diff....i vaguely recall LSD's being worse, but it has been a while.

TMK it's not something you really want while racing.

a bit off topic, but why are you using such an old version?

Also IIRC you can only use 1 outgauge at a time (i think, for now anyway...)

of course, sliding of any kind is going to cost you time...but i'm still trying to grapple with how washing off speed by scrubbing the fronts is helping you...maybe its only if the track is cambered a certain way etc?? yeah got me stumped..

GENERALLY speaking FWD's will push understeer most of the time, i managed to get a corolla with modified suspension to snap oversteer, but i entered the corner with a fair idea that it would snap over on me....ie too quick. I think you'd have to be pretty unlucky (or have a dynamic load in the rear of the car, large fluid filled container, or unrestrained heavy load etc) to get it to oversteer...

RWD's (FR) if you set them up correctly shouldn't oversteer so much that you can't correct in time, unless you are pushing way past the limits of the car anyway, in which case tough titties :P (thats IMHO)

THAT SAID - i do run my G25 at 270deg in LFS, to get a quicker countersteer, as i find using the full angle of the cars to be too slow to respond. Maybe that just says something about my driving technique tho..

thats what i mean, it seems like a technique that is putting a car from a 2 wheel loss of traction into a 4 wheel loss of traction...it breaks with most of what i've been taught about driving a car (i'm not saying it's incorrect, just i haven't encountered it before)

Does it have any advantages? Any Disadvantages? Where is it best used as opposed to the normal correction techniques that are taught?

Quote from SamH :Hmm.. doesn't work that way then does it? LOL! All that engine and it's heavier at the rear?

Gearbox, rear axle, more bodywork, interior, all towards the rear. It's only a 1.9L inline six, not an overly large engine..

from what i can gather on the video, this essentially looks like using tyres scrubbing on the ground to reduce speed? if the back end steps out, why not lift a little (i'm talking Front engined cars here, with RWD, Mid rear and Rear rear are a different kettle of fish) counter, and if you have an LSD, attempt to power it thru (i'm talking race use only here)

I'm struggling to see the advantage of inputting too much steering, as, at least in that video, it seems to wash off way more speed that i would think necessary?

I might be wrong tho, if anyone can explain whats happening better that would be good..

Quote from Dj-Aeri :I don't see the XFG with 70hp...

The "road cars" of LFS are very tuned really.

XRT cuts 13.xx quarter mile IIRC....thats not hanging around. my pb is 12.9 but can't remember if that was wind assisted or shunted etc

XFG low 16's...it's what i'd expect from a Sports model car like that..

Quote from Bob Smith :I did start a re-write of this guide, which would just generally make it better all round. Essentially though, changes to the vehicles in LFS should not require changes to the guide. This is just one of many projects I started while at Uni, and now I have very little time to keep up-to-date with a full-time job. :|

No problems, i know what it's like when you get home from work and all you want to do is crash out for a bit

I'll have a read thru the old P2 guide anyway, i'm interested in making my own setups, as i'm finding some of the downloaded setups don't suit my driving style (lol rough as guts) And i'd like to know how to set them up properly. Cheers for the guide!

Hey Bob, are you still updating this as small vehicle changes are made (roll centres etc, and new suspension models - scirocco, multilink is it?)

Or does it not require updates due to it being a broad guide to making your own setups?

Canon IXUS > Canon Powershot.

Ixus is awesome, i've had my now old Ixus 50 for 3 years, and i've played with the newer ones, bang for buck they can't be beaten IMHO.
Plus the powershot is pretty bulky considering it doesn't REALLY have much over the IXUS (Ixus will fit easily into a pocket you can carry a wallet in)

G25, the only thing i don't like is the lack of more buttons and maybe the D-Pad on the wheel (the only thing i actually liked about the Driving force pro was the buttons on the wheel) But for feel, it beats everything else i've used.

Just remember not to be TOO hard on the shifter, it's not as strong as a real gearbox, use it gently

if they are being retarded, vote kick them.
ditto for spamming.

If it's just a new racer, as long as they aren't wrecking a planned race because they have no car control, perhaps suggest to them that a practice server or single player may be a good idea until they are up to a reasonable standard. I have no issues racing online with newer drivers, as long as they are willing to learn/listen/follow the basic rules. I also have no issues with helping new racers as long as they aren't being retarded and asking the same questions over and over again (it's hard sometimes when there's a language barrier.....or they're just not listening)

It's still the first quarter of the year. I'd consider "early" 2009 any time before July.

Kick back and wait.

interesting. What are the advantages/disadvantages to raising or lowering these numbers, or is it also totally dependant on the programming of the game itself?

People have been pushing their cars on open public roads, i would think since they first appeared ON public roads. Only now, the technology to catch them is more prevalent, and commonly available, and cars have a MUCH higher topspeed, that this kind of thing will happen.

Nothing makes me laugh more than all the old guys who crap on about how hoons these days etc, then talk about how they got from point a to point b in record time, with no seatbelts and 6 mates in the car.

This kind of thing is complete hypocracy. People will ALWAYS do this kind of thing, its human nature, the only way to eradicate it is to eradicate cars.
