I always find what I want using the vB's in-built search function. Or I just Google it with "site:lfsforum.net". Is it that hard to find something in here?

Hello, that would require changing the shape of the car (i.e. vob modification), and this sort of discussions are not allowed in this forum as the developers do not support us changing the car-shapes.

You can make a skin (painting the outer skin of the existing LFS cars), but I dont think is what you want...

The speed is ok (slow, but playable) - the very high jitter (40 ms) might be the cause.

I would expect the line quality rating to be much lesser due to the jitter value. Sorry, I'm out of ideas - hopefully someone else would have better advice/help.

What do you mean by "lock up"?
Quote from Suvv :I cannot play multiplayer due to lag issues which result in being kicked or lock up.

PS: Are you having issues on most servers?
i.e. you might be able to play perfectly well on UK-hosted servers whilst not being able to play at all in GER/NL/FR hosted servers...

Anyway, good luck in sorting it out.

Hi

What's the ping to the server(s) that you connect to? And what do you mean by "result in being locked up?"

What type of connection are you using? Dial up - or broadband? Are you using wi-fi or tethering via phone etc.?

If possible, run tests from both www.speedtest.net and www.pingtest.net and post the results here. Might be able to see if this is mainly down to internet connectivity issues... When you get the pingtest results - have a look here: http://www.pingtest.net/learn.php

Some people might have missed this post from Jan 2011.
Quote from Scawen :I'm sure it would have been different if we had known in advance how long this development stage would take, I guess we could have tried to plan other releases in the meantime. But it has always seemed like I was near to finishing the tyre physics, so no change of plan was required.

Remember it was the Scirocco that showed up the issues in the tyre physics (there were already known tyre physics issues but we couldn't get the Scirocco to drive as safely as a real one does while restricting ourselves to a realistic setup). So, releasing the Scirocco has been out of the question until the tyre physics system is quite close to reality.

Releasing Rockingham has also been out of the question. We want to release a real track when the behaviour of the cars is right (not perfect, just close enough so the bumps feel right and the lap times are just like real ones).

Who knows, if I had known in advance that the tyre model would take so long, maybe Eric would have thought that he should focus on some S1 / S2 content updates. With the benefit of hindsight, it's easy to pick holes in what we have done and point out the mistakes we have made. But as I said, we always thought that in a few weeks or a couple of months, the new tyres would be ready to roll.

But the carcass simulation, which I had to look into because the tread simulation model clearly ignored too much of how a tyre actually behaves, took me in a whole new direction for a good part of last year. A long time of studying and finding out a lot more about tyres than I knew before, and had never thought I'd need to know. It made my head spin quite often, I'm not an eighteen year old on a university course. I couldn't even read this stuff for full eight hour days, had to take it a bit easy at times.

But still I usually thought I was near the end. So that is probably the reason for our dreadful "strategy" and lack of communication. It wasn't a strategy at all, and I didn't want to communicate until I got solid results.

I am fully aware that this post isn't going to convince many people. But I thought I'd write it anyway, to help you see slightly more from my point of view.

From May 2011
Quote from Scawen :That is quite apart from the fact that Eric is working on S3 content at the moment. I think it is ok for me to say, that he doesn't like being asked to switch from one thing to another. Some people like to switch tasks all the time - I have no choice - but Eric does not like that, he likes to stay focussed on what is is doing.

From July 2010
Quote from Scawen :It's up to Eric what of his work gets released, never have I tried to stop something of his being released!

But by the look of things, the tyre physics might be still months, if not years away - would it be in everyone's best interest for Eric to revist the idea of making/releasing additional S1/S2 content or to pursue the release of S3 (maybe without the VWS/Rockingham but with other fictional cars/tracks).

IMO, I think open-configs are "hidden" for a reason. Yes, you can easily reveal them by holding "X", but for a new user there arent any hints that open configs exist.

This is probably done because some parts of the drivable open-configs are not as detailed as the rest of the classic configs (i.e. the highway bit in SO); so its not best to include it as main content.

In the classic configs you cant easily go out of bounds/fall into the underworld (unless you try intentionally), but can do so relatively easily in open configs. We know that we've got the extra bits of road/off-road bits, half done as they were, since we were starved for content - but for someone newly coming into LFS some sections are not good enough to be introduced as LFS S1/S2 content.

So its better as it is; easter egg/autocross extra stuff.

Someone could add info (if its not already done) on the LFS Manual about info about open configs.

Thanks for the report. Wish all a Happy 2012!

Quote from Yuri Laszlo :Why does Scawen speak in the third person?

Although Scawen posted the message, the same message goes on the main webpage and (I think) the newsletters as a message from the LFS Devs, not just Scawen alone.

Well, in another thread Dave (cargame.nl) pointed out two of the main posts of 2011, they are quoted below.

As you may or may not know, the VW Scirocco (VWS) and Rockingham have been created for LFS - but are withheld until the tyre physics are improved.

The VWS will be included as S1 content, and Rockingham as S3. As part of S3 content there will be at least 1 more car (I'm quite sure about this).

Whilst developing Victor's LFS Record, Scawen found a way to open up the configs - i.e. not having to stick to a specific route. Along with those patches came many updates, mainly to do with autocross/layouts and hotlapping. The cheat protection has been improved.

From Jan 2011;

And more recently, on 30th Nov;
Quote from Scawen:1658569 :[...] but recently I've been continuing with the tyre model. Specifically I've been improving the non-real-time tyre carcass model so it can correctly predict the stiffness in various directions and contact patch width / length for a given deflection at various camber amounts and pressures, for all different tyre sizes. It's a long time I've been on that, I know, but the gradual improvements in that will make the real-time model much closer to reality, so I think it's the right thing to do.

Feelings of the community? I'm sure you know what its like looking at few threads that keep circulating... Obviously, people are not happy about the delay of the release of the VWS, Rockingham, new interiors, more cars/tracks, updates to exsisting cars/tracks and over 9000 more stuff. Some people are put off by the lack of communication from the developers. Eric was supposedly working on more content, but sadly that was it - nothing more was said (cant blame them after the "we plan to release the new VW Scirocco in Live for Speed" and the chaos that followed).

Part of the folk have taken up other sims, moved on with life or simply put LFS on hold. You can still see a lot of them around the forums or [thankfully] racing time to time.

Some are, again - thankfully, organizing leagues and events and keeping that aspect of the LFS going. The number of events and drivers are dwinding, but, I quote,

Quote from DeadWolfBones :Super GT, GT2WS, IGTC, and LFSCART were all really entertaining this year. It's been a good year for LFS league racing on the whole, I'd say.

The rest, including myself (a relative new-comer) are making use of what's available. When time permits we can be found in public servers having a grand old time. I'm still having fun as much as I did in 2008.

Hopefully, soon enough we would get more content or the much talked about "new tyre physics", if not, the patience of ye old faithful LFSers will be tested, but I'm sure some will stick till ends of time...

Join in for a race - you might have forgotten how entertaining LFS is, with the "same old" content.

Quote from Mustang20 :hy guys i have a lfs s1 game and server having a error and i dont say what is happing

The LFS forum shows that the "Mustang20" account is only demo (not S1). Make sure you are using the correct account for S1.

Take a screenshot of error or provide the exact wording of the error so someone would tell you what might be wrong...

Cant you do a fresh Windows install (reset to factory settings) and run LFS with minimum detail?

Turn down everything (turn off/lowest settings) in in Options > Graphics, turn off skin downloads, use low res textures, and if you have any other programs running in the background other than LFS - close all of them (browsers, media players etc.).

Hello, sorry about the late reply; I dont usually follow this thread. I hope you have already sorted it out - if not, as I've mentioned, the code Ive quoted can be found in the Airio.srv file.

Im not sure if you are using the latest version of Airio (or if the settings have changed alot between the version you are using and the current one), but I did download the latest one (a download link be found on EQ Worry's forum signature).

Merry Christmas!

Hi, did you upgrade S1>S2 with a voucher? If so, I think you have to manually enter the code after log-in to www.lfs.net. If you bought the code with the account "xxxlock1xxx" the code will be shown on that page.

Simply enter the code and click "upgrade account".

If this is not the case, have a look here: http://www.lfs.net/?page=faq

If you still cant find a solution - contact LFS Tech with as much detail as possible (https://www.lfs.net/?page=mailus).

Good luck!

Cant see it clearly - does it say "OOS CAR"?

Anyway, you can't go online with [most] vob mods (mods that change the shape of the original LFS car). Use the original car vobs (shapes) if you want to connect to servers.

If you didn't make a back up for the originals - you can re-install LFS or download them from here.
