I own a buttkicker but wasn't really happy with how good it worked with LFS since LFS does not generate alot of bass. If I had time, I had an idea that seemed like it would work.
You have one PC running LFS (which I'll refer to as PC1) and another PC that has the buttkicker attached to it (PC2).
PC1 has a 5.1 sound system
PC2 has no speakers - but the buttkicker hooked up to its audio ports.
Write an Outsim application that runs on PC2 that detects when the car is started. When it detects this, PC2 plays a low bass sound which causes the buttkicker to vibrate. You can now programatically control the buttkicker. Since PC2 doesn't have any speakers hooked up, you never actually hear the generated sounds. So you can do things like make the buttkicker vibrate much more at idle and smooth out as the RPMS increase (and then maybe get a bit harsher as the car approaches redline?). I believe all this data is available in outsim. For example, if suspension travel is available in outsim, you can shake the seat if the car hits the bump stops, etc.
I started racing again in late December/early January and have yet to see that bug affect any of the ~300 races I've participated in I happen to like this bug - it adds some good comedic value after a long hard battle
Of course they're not real, they're virtual But they're damn amazing to drive and the "feel" very real to me - that's what's important. Even just cruising down the straightaway at lime rock you can feel tiny bumps and imperfections. It makes the track come to life. Same with the cars. I've primarily only driven the solstice but it "feels" real to me. Alot of it has to do with the track TBH. But also the sound is fantastic and definitely makes the driver feel like he's driving a real car (tone of engine changing at higher RPM's, random little pops from unburned fuel in the exhaust, etc). iRacing is not perfect and neither is LFS. Both sims can learn alot from each other For example, I find the net code in LFS is far superior.
ah, I didn't know that was you. yeah another incident riddled race for me. I passed two people at the start (following PMD haha), then rammed someone in T1 - not sure who. Car was damaged and wouldn't turn so I had to reset

1 - -:- -.- - - invalid, pitted, off track, car reset, car contact <-- doesn't get much worse than that I'll be stuck in the rookie cars forever!
Well most of the things you mentioned are scawen's tasks while the interiors were done by Eric so I don't think it held up any software development. I think the graphics updates are very important for people that don't currently own LFS. If LFS looks dated while other sims look much better who's going to want to play it? Standard road car interiors looked plain bad previously, atleast the XRG. I never drove in that FWD econobox lol... :hide:
I think it has to do with the amount of people that joined the race. I seem to be getting paired up with people running 1:05-1:06's. Last two races I was car #1 so I should technically have won both by a large margin but I usually screwup something..... for instance... jumping the start last race and getting black flagged... damnit!#! (then catching up to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and spinning....!).
XFG interior looks really nice. Can someone post a pic from the drivers seat in the XRG?
The only things I think could use improvement are the gauges. They haven't really changed and really take away from the experience of being in a real car. They look very "digital" for lack of a better word - even though they appear to represent analog gauges. I'm not an artist so I don't really know how to improve them
Here's a picture of the gauges from an early miata (released in 89 so its somewhere close to the age of these cars). Maybe if the needles had a bit more depth, the redline zone was shaded in, and the screws that hold the gauges in place were added in or something.. I dont know. Anyway, maybe for a future update
edit... in LFS's defense... LFS's gauges have more depth than iRacing's solstice gauges. But the solstice gauges have more detail such as "rpm x1000" and "mph" and "kph" which just makes them look more like real gauges.
Awesome. Scawen, thanks for putting up with all the whining recently I'm glad the road cars received updates because this is the first thing new users see when the play the demo
Nice. My heart rate is also out of control during these races (never had that issue with LFS). I find I have to take deep breathes on the long straight, lol. I just got my first win earlier today and it was damn exciting. I started 8th and went 3 wide into T1 at the start (by accident!). I spun and only took myself out. I got back on the track in last position with everyone way ahead and moved my way through the entire field and was in 2nd spot with one lap to go and I could see the leader in the distance. The leader went off track in the esses on the final lap and I passed him just as he got back on the track so I got a bit lucky - but I'll take it!
I don't know. I was rear ended in real life at about the same speed (in a tiny Miata). I slowed and then stopped to yield to another car while a driver coming down a hill said his brakes did not work and he hit me at ~25mph (I'm guessing..!?). The impact was really forceful and LOUD. My car leaped forward and my head whipped back. I thought my car was totaled. When I got out I was amazed that neither my car nor the car that hit me had any signs of damage. The damn bumper didn't even look scratched on either car Then again that was a text book accident - I was hit fairly square and both of our bumpers were at the same height.
In my iRacing incident, it wasn't exactly a square hit (my front right against his rear left).
I find the damage isn't really accurate at times. As I mentioned in a previous post, driving into the back of someone at the start will total the Solstice completely. I had to hold the wheel 45 degrees to the left to go straight after a 15-20mph (however fast I may be going in a couple of feet?) impact.
It's pretty easy to powerslide around the entire big bend (turns 1 and 2) at limerock in the rookie solstice so I would imagine it would be pretty easy for a drifter with the advanced solstice (where you can setup the car yourself).
Jonathan J-a-n-i_s_c_h remove the dashes and underscores. I don't want my boss to google me and see that I play LFS 24/7 instead of working. I added you and Tristan as friends in the myRacing section. I have no idea how that works though.
Unlike Hyperactive, I have a more manly black and grey solstice although I guess driving a solstice in the first place isn't exactly manly.... This is with Class 6 graphics - which is pretty crappy.
Speaking of crashing, I crashed twice in that 5pm (EST) race and still finished third.... not sure how that happened. I also got two tires into the grass several times (without losing control) collecting another 10 incident points, woo. My safety rating is garbage - 2.47
