Hah hyperactive. I had a similar incident except all three of us were on the same lap. Two cars were fighting for position in front when I came flying around T6 going much faster. I had a thought of passing them but held back and was side by side with the middle car at the top (I was on his right side). I let him enter the corkscrew first only to find that the front car missed the turn or just stopped halfway off the track. I have no idea and couldn't see him until it was too late. All I know is that I rear ended him so hard his rear end flew up into the air and onto my hood.
Edit... ahhh I got all my turns messed up. Yeah I have problems with T5 as well. I've just started slowing down more otherwise I get too much understeer. I also have issues with T3. I have to really rotate the car there - sometimes getting sideways.
As long as you dont race with me you will like it. I just caused a massive wreck in my last race.... then... even though I drove up the rahal straight on the dirt, I somehow caught up to some people and rear ended them in the corkscrew. ugh.. I have no idea how that happened... it was like they were going 5mph in the corkscrew.. 14 incident points!
yeah... i know and right now it's up to 53. I'm going to race even though I can barely complete 2 consecutive clean laps. I have no idea how I survived the first race with only a few practice session laps.
Oh, great. There's 7 people total registered for races right now and only one for the crap I'm interested in... Alright.. I guess I'll erm... test offline again!
These hours definitely don't agree with the working folk. Let's see most people get off work at 5pm, drive home.. but since the races are scheduled for 5pm EST they have to wait until 7pm to race. That leaves them 2 races possible a day (7pm and 9pm) if they go to sleep normal hours.
also... from Dale Jr's perspective, he ran one race and now is in 2nd position. Why the hell would he want to participate in any more races in the Solstice this week? Since the races are averaged the only thing he can do is bring down his ranking...
My advice is to just get the $20 1 month deal to start. I was all set to buy a year subscription beforehand but us initial invitees were forced to sign up for the 1 month deal. Now after trying it I'm not sure if I want to renew.
It has great physics. Great visuals. Great sound. Great track detail. But I'm just not having that much fun. The online practices are really worthless unless you just want to observe others. The only thing online practices do is keep a permanent record of all your screwups when you're learning new tracks
Time trials. I guess I really just don't see the point. If you enjoy hot lapping in LFS than I guess you'll enjoy iRacing's time trials too.
Races. I don't really understand how they determine points. Dale Jr is in 2nd with 131 points after starting and winning one race. His fastest lap that race was a 1:48.7 which is pretty damn fast. Then we got Derek Wood in 9th place even though he's started and won all 3 races he's been in. His fastest lap in his last race was a 1:46.75 which is simply amazing - much faster than Dale Jr or any of the time trial records this week. The strength of the field was roughly the same. Why should he get penalized because iRacing can't match him up with better drivers anyway? That's not my main complaint though. I just kind of want to race for fun though. Like right now I wouldn't mind a nice points free race at Lime Rock that doesn't affect the standings. But that's simply not possible unless you like racing by yourself offline. argh.. it's frustrating
Download the demo and run "NetworkedPhysics.exe". Read the index.html page for the keyboard controls. You can increase packet loss, adjust latency, view the server side and client side cubes, etc. It's pretty slick (even though its an old article).
Let me tell you about the only accident I caused in iRacing. After the start, I rear ended someone in T1. As soon as I hit him, his car disappeared from plain site. I frantically hit "look right", I look in the rear view, but the car's just GONE. No he didn't join the spectators or enter pits (you have to come to a complete stop to do that). That car just freaking disappeared. I'm sure he reemerged somewhere out of my view. After the race, I wanted to see the replay so I knew who to apologize to, but no, after 5 years of development it only records the last 6 laps of the race (if you only have 1GB of memory like me)
Even when I started playing LFS in 0.1 or whatever in 2002 we had fairly solid multiplayer collisions and were able to watch an entire replay (and save it - another feature lacking from iRacing). So you guys may whine about development speed but I think it's quite amazing what one software developer can do compared to a large team with alot of money..!
p.s. I didn't mean to single you out I'm sure the bugs in iRacing will be fixed soon and the ability to view and save replays will be added.... development speed seems to be very good. But the fact remains we're shelling out a lot of money for a game that lacks a ton of features that LFS already has.
The Rookie Solstice in iRacing is a standard road car with a roll cage and hard top - so standard road car lap times should apply. The advanced solstice is the factory Z0K model, which I believe is their sport model intended for racers.
So... Eric spent all this time making nice looking interiors and now you're going to change them? I think you're making a big deal over nothing. Do you really want him to waste his time to cater to the 0.05% of people that want to change the new interior?
Yeah Laguna's pretty hard. I entered the first race there on Saturday after only doing two practices sessions - bad idea! PMD was running a full second faster than my fastest lap.
Biggest issue I had was getting two tires off track in the corkscrew. Not only do you get 1 incident point, you're forced to slow down to a stop or you get black flagged.... I did that twice in the race... argh.
It doesn't have to be just for the wheel though. Using a buttkicker or similar device to simulate vibrations in the shifter or seat can add to the immersion factor.
My system sucks and some of those videos were recorded at 1600x1200 resolution because I'm an idiot Fraps really slows my system down like mad.
It's an AMD 3400+, 1GB Crucial ballistix, nvidia 6800GT. You can build a really smokin system for ~$800.
As good as iRacing is, look how unrealistic those crashes were. That car that flew up high in the air looked like it was attached to elastic bands. It's also evident how the netcode just fails when it can't predict where the cars are. They just kind of disappear.
My car had a massive amount of damage to it. I could barely go above 15mph without spinning. There's no visible damage to other cars. That might just be my graphic settings ? I'm at level 6 graphics - the lowest.
Simple mistake I guess. No hard feelings towards him.. I just posted it because it was funny The crash physics seemed really bizarre. My safety rating dropped a bit. I collected 6 incident points for this. Person who initiated the contact received less incident points than me... I lost extra points because I attempted to drive the car back to the finish line at 15mph and because it was so damaged I spun and went off track on my way there.
