Nice, is the e-brake functional? Did you take a saw to the G25 shifter?

Two wheels off is not outlawed in iRacing. It just affects your safety rating. If you keep doing it lap after lap you'll be demoted to a lower class where your stuck with wreckers Atleast that's how I interpreted it.
Remove max braking force from setup options

Threshold braking is a necessary racing skill. In LFS, people just set the max braking force so that they can slam the brake pedal down without locking up the wheel. This isn't very realistic. If I use a realistic setting, I'm at a disadvantage. I think this option should be removed from the setup screen.

I'm not quite sure what to do about mouse and keyboard users though... they won't be able to complete a lap if they lock up the wheels around every turn.

I didn't see anything like that. But if you pay for a track, there's a chance iRacing will lose the license to that track over time and you can no longer race it online. You will "not" be given a refund but you can continue to race in test mode by yourself. The FAQ says the chances of them losing a license is slim but still I don't really like the idea of paying for a subscription AND renting content. I'd prefer either one or the other. Either subscribe and get everything or pay for the initial release and for track/car packs.

Cool topic... here's mine:

My movie making skills are almost as bad as my driving.... might have to turn up the volume.

It looks like they took down the knowledge base articles. Maybe someone leaked it? Either that or teh internetz is busted..

One thing I found interesting was your safety rating is not only affected by contact with other cars, it's also affected by:

1) Rotating more than 90 degrees
2) Coming into contact with wall
3) 2 or more tires off the track

In LFS most people don't care if they hit a wall or go off the track since it's just a game. I'm guilty of this too. I think iRacing's system will encourage better driving. People won't jump into a new track and attempt to drive it at 10/10ths.

A nascar is not similar to my own car though... My knowledge of rFactor is lacking, but I was under the assumption that the physics are only good in a few mods (good meaning acceptable but not as good as LFS).

Surprised to see so many vettes in that picture. I didn't think they were popular in other countries. I think I've been watching too much Top Gear Nice lambo behind you too..

I don't want to get screwed. But the idea of racing at Limerock or Watkins Glen in cars similar to my own before I do my first track day at said tracks is appealing to me.

I thought this was good news... It's not exactly an "offline" mode, but it's close. And you can race any track for free!

Can't quote, but he, Mckee, said you could test all cars and tracks at any time. I think this means private practice. So you'd need buy cars and tracks to race online with others. That's how I understood it anyway.

You are correct, in the 'Test' mode you will be able to drive any car on any track, but if you want to run a competitive race, time trial, qualifying run or practice with a certain car or on a certain track you would need to 'own' them is what was stated. That's their version of a 'test drive'.

Quote from Electrik Kar :I wonder how the safety ratings work? If you hit someone and it's not your fault, would you still lose rating, and be eventually forced down the servers into a perpetual wrecker hell of no return?

That might actually be fun..! If it wasn't so damn expensive, it would be fun to see how low I can make my rank...

Quote from xaotik :I wonder how large a margin they'll have for the division because generally you need to race your betters, at least once in a while. Everyone needs a good ass whooping to get the picture back in perspective.

Agreed. It's hard to improve if you're only racing against people marginally better than you.

However, the FAQ does say that more experienced drivers are free to race with people with a lower rank:

Quote :
You'll start getting paired up with similarly skilled racers fairly quickly, but it can take a while for your rating to sort out.

You can always race down in a series below your current level.

Quote from PwrSlave :I did not mean it like that. And i said it few posts down. And if you cant understand what i mean im rly sorry for ya. If indeed is gonna be very great sim we shall yet see. Superman Returns, the movie was suppsed to be da sh1t and what not and look how rubish it turned out. Maybe youre some tester or somethin and you know more than i do, but its just i dont believe it if i dont see it, thats all. Now give me a brake with all this that im anti US, couse im not, im just anti politics. Get it?

Understood. I'm anti-politics also. I'm not quite sure what that has to do with iRacing though...

This all sounds very interesting, at least to me. To me, it sounds like this is gonna be some real hard-core simulation of the racing experience. That it will include track temperature/grip varying, track warming up while racing, dust/grass/gravel throwing on the track if you fly out, thus reducing grip on that places, that it will simulate rain racing, with wind changing, air preasure changing, ..... Of course it will have track/car modeling like never before seen, we dont wanna forget that.
And it will simulate racing experience as no other. Maybe it will somehow simulate Gforce on my ass, so i will be able to see how HARD it rly is, not just how hard it rly is, as we can see in our current non simulations -> all just games. And offcourse iRacing is not something for all people. Its for households of yearly average income at least 71,400 $.

"Yea. Only they are worthy of such a product, thats why we shall charge them. Fook it, they got the cash! Why should we be left out of the huge online games market business? FFS, we're da sh1t, we be having laser mapped tracks, and RL cars most of them have never seen. Our product is gonna be worth so much, that they will pay us just to be able to try it out and see if they have what it takes to participate in simracing. We be big, eat most expensive caviar and drink the expensive coffe that some animal shits out first."

What i think of this, no thank you. Naturally most of this type of mercandise arrives form the US. And as i said somewhere b4, I secretly wish for someone to come around this silly little Earth and slaughter them capitalysts Conan style.

Translation: Americans are fat and elitist and I want to slaughter all of them. Oh, they also might have made a great sim but I really don't care. If I do play it, I will just pirate it so I don't support their economy!

I'm sorry but no where does it say the required annual income is $70k to play. You can work at McDonalds and still afford this game. Seriously.... but atleast the folks at iRacing have given some of you new reasons to hate Americans!

Quote from Shotglass :so if 100$ is too much... have you tried calculating how much youd have paid in the ~4 years youve been playing lfs with the iracing subscription prices?

People are more accepting of paying a little amount of money over a long time than paying alot up front. It's as simple as that!

I'm not trying to defend them, I'd much rather own the dang game.

Quote from GFresh :I have to say, if it was a 100% finished/polished SIM that i was very happy with, didn't look like a cartoon, had no bugs, had as much or more content than the Gran Turismo series, and had no stupid rFactor-like diluted mod scene, then i would happily pay hundreds of pounds to own it tbh.
Perhaps i would even consider venturing into the four figure bracket...

Even if it had no online multiplayer mode? With a $500 price tag, you're not going to have a community to race against!

Quote from three_jump :*I'm ignoring the more here

That's the problem. If they're charging ~$125 to rent the game for a year, I'd imagine they would charge even more to "own" the game either to cover their costs or because they're an evil money grubbing company.

As I said before, $100 seems reasonable but anything more than $100 and no one except moose is going to buy it.

Quote from srdsprinter :If it was great I'd pay $100 for it. Without hesitation. I would have paid $75 or so for each S of LFS.

But to charge me $20 to see if its good, another $130 for the rest of the year, large chunks for various other bits, and to never own it is absurd in my opinion.

$100 seems to be that magical price - anything over $100 is viewed as unreasonable and I think that's the problem with PC games. The Logitech G25 and iRacing are both targeting the sim market - yet one is hardware the other is software. I have no idea which one cost more to develop, but I know which one has more value to me.

How many people would spend more than $100 to buy iRacing?
How many people wouldn't mind paying $12/month?

The bet the second option is much more attractive to most people even if they absolutely loathe the idea of renting a game.

There's a bunch of people here that disagree with the subscription pricing, but what are the alternatives? How much do you think the game should cost if it were not subscription-based?

$50? $100? $200? How much would you pay for iRacing?

Finally, how much did you pay for your most recent steering wheel? How many wheels have you had over the course of your LFS career?

I'm not saying I agree with the pricing structure. But many people have no issues paying $250 for a G25 but I seriously doubt many people would pay $250 for any sim racing game.

Yep the CXC cockpit is pretty cool.

I'm building my own sim right now and it's not cheap... I bought every piece individually and I just made the mistake of summing it all up $1800 ouch. What was I thinking... It's not as nice as CXC's, but it does share many of the same components.

I don't mind the cost at all - I just don't like the idea of paying for a service. I don't lease my cars - I don't want to lease a game If iRacing goes bankrupt in 4 years I still want to be able to play the game offline without resorting to a pirated/cracked version.

I wouldn't mind paying to race online as long as my initial purchase allowed me to play the game offline with all the content (even if I cancel my online subscription).
