Quote from Töki (HUN) :I mean.. of course warm tyres have more grip. It was very easy to take Alonso over even from the outside. What's so awesome in that? Someone please explain because I really can't understand!

As someone has already pointed out, Webber failed to do the exact same thing to Hamilton on the previous lap - that should show you that it was not an easy pass.

Quote from Töki (HUN) :Well I still don't get why was that overtake so freaking awesome. Simple physics.

When was the last time you saw an overtake that defied phsyics?

I like Billy Bragg a lot.

Shame about Amy Winehouse, she had an incredible voice, and she was a talented songwriter too - I don't think most people realise she wrote those songs as well as singing them. There's some clever stuff in there too, harmonically, for such a young songwriter to come up with.

Whenever I see wolves I never have any bones with me, I've got a chest full of bones that came out my mob grinder. So it goes.*

The wolves I did tame got stuck in my house and just judder up and down like lunatics anyway.

* Points for anyone who appreciates that.

A friend of mine (well he's a mac fanboy but I've known him a long time...) asked last week what - after six months of using a Mac for work - would be my next computer purchase "If money was no object".

Could Zazzle.co.uk actually deliver a computer made out of tits?

Looks like OpenGL. You'll have all sorts of Carmack fanboys wanting to talk to you about occlusion.

It's so frustrating because their computers are so nice. My Macbook Pro honestly it's a great little box, runs quieter than anything I've ever had the fan only ever comes on when I'm running Windows in a VM The screen is really nice, aluminium case is really nice, the trackpad is miles ahead of anything else I've used, but my god their software decisions and their single-mindedness about their UI is infuriating.

The next time I need a computer I will probably end up on Ubuntu. But every time I evaluate Linux for a desktop OS I come away thinking 'Oh it's nearly ready'. It's been nearly ready for about ten years now.

The scrolling is the biggest bit of bullshit about the UI. Typical Apple bullshit - like the way they decided their keyboards should have a few symbols in different places just for the **** of it, and the hash key shouldn't even be printed on the keyboard presumably because it's not a pretty enough symbol to be on an Apple keyboard.

There are a few things that make me want to keep Lion though. Mission Control shits all over Expose, Mail works better, Finder works better, Resume is handy. Whereas the things that irritate me are the pointlessly stupid scrolling reversal, the iOS-style scroll bouncing at the end of documents (don't waste my time with bouncing the ****ing content I'm trying to do some ****ing work), the swipe history transitions in Safari - all the pointless eye candy that just slows you down.

They also turned on autocorrect by default. Why? If I didn't have it on in Snow Leopard I'm not going to want it on in Lion either, leave it the **** alone.

Oh and my network drive no longer works as a Time Machine backup, unless I hack it again.

I think I put redstone torches every so often to remind myself how long it was, so if it was dotted with redstone torches then yeah that would be it.

Feel free to plough through it if it's in your way, I don't use it. The plan was to dig until I got to some unused territory so you can imagine my disappointment when I came out next to a massive project like yours.

Quote from Hyperactive :Well it's mine if there were two lava towers nearby. Glad you recognized it to be a submarine. I think I should have made even longer because it looks a bit obese but I've already lenghtened it once so meh.

Haha.

Yeah I saw the beginnings of it months ago - I dug a tunnel for an hour or so and when I decided to surface I came up in the sea right next to it, but then it was just the outline. This time I was taking the long way home from my second home and BOOM - giant submarine!

Very impressive.

Whose is the giant smoothstone submarine? It's impressive considering that you couldn't have duped the blocks for it, it's massive. :jawdrop:

Quote from mamoru :Why? If you mine in tunnels you mine straight which means that the lava would flow towards you. Since the lava does that really slowly you can place blocks to prevent that from happening. That is also why I do not mine up or straight down.

When I did mine...

With water you can turn it to obsidian, and if things do go wrong you can put yourself out. It's easier to make progress through a lot of lava by turning it into something you can walk on than it is to try to place blocks all over it.

And anyway if you were going to use a block against lava you'd be better off with sand or gravel, so you can fill up the lava pool from the top and then mine it out to see if there's anything good underneath. It's a lot easier to fill up a lava pool with blocks that have gravity.

Quote from dadge :ah, up tu-bastard-tu-north. I used to live in Bradford. Many moons ago though. Mick Mc Carthy put me off the North. I was watching the world cup and he was commentating. He made an outrageous remark and I still haven't recovered from it. He said (and I quote) "Do you know what I hate? Tu-Mexican waves." but with all the Northern-isms included. Now, I'm fine when it comes to hating something that can harm you. But WTF has a Mexican wave done to Mick for him to hate them so much, that he has to proclaim his rage on national TV.
I don't even watch Emmerdale now because of him.

I thought only old people watch Emmerdale?

I thought Mick McCarthy was hilarious at the world cup. It's just so bizarre having a Yorkshire commentary, really helps to bring some working-classness to a field full of millionaires kicking a ball around.

Are the Irish still mad at him for sending Roy Keane home that time?

Quote from Killer Beast :Damn, just lost lots of stuff again, thanks to lava

This is why you need a bucket of water (or two) when you go mining.

No I think you need an iron pick or diamond (or gold, but there's no point making gold tools they aren't very durable).

The lower you go the more redstone you'll find, but it's quite common in the layers where it's present so no doubt you will find it if you just keep digging down, long before you hit bedrock.

Bear in mind 'lava' isn't the bottom of the world, lava can appear pretty much anywhere although it is more common lower down. You know you're at the bottom when you hit bedrock - a darker stone that can't be mined.

Quote from Lible :Slaughterhouse-Five

I read that recently, been meaning to read it for years.

Last book I read was The Book Thief, before that was Dorian Grey, currently reading a massive collection of JG Ballard's short stories, most of which are really good.

Quote from Killer Beast :How can i make wires?

Select your redstone dust, click on the floor - that's a wire. If you don't have redstone dust, take an iron pick to a redstone ore block, there are plenty of them in the lower levels.

Quote from djgizmo68 :WTF Submarine! lol

i spent 3 HOURS! at Level 16 and under, and i found NO slimes!!! WTF!

They don't spawn in some chunks apparently. I'm quite lucky I get them spawning regularly in my basement (although it was just an irritation before pistons came along).

Quote from Forbin :My dad's a big fan of Talisker.

I've had some of his single malts before and I can kinda appreciate them for what they are, but I don't particularly enjoy them.

There's a lot of bullshit talked about scotch. A mate of mine regularly buys £60 bottles of islay malts of a certain age but to me there's nothing different compared to the immature bottles that you can get in any supermarket. But I suppose it gets money out of people with more money than sense, like all premium brands are designed to do.

I usually have a bottle of scotch in at any given time (Oban at the moment) because I enjoy it, but it's for drinking, not 'admiring'.

Quote from Stefani24 :I'm playing single player so everywhere is virgin land for me. Yeah, I haven't played in some time, but might focus on that strategy if I play again.

Also, I never found Iron that I didn't use for tools.

Fair point, but buckets are essential tools. Besides, you can use diamonds for picks, that will save you about a stack of iron per pick, plenty to use for buckets.
