I got an olympic white Jazz bass body, a 22-fret Moses carbon fibre neck, a pair of vintage noiseless Fender J pups and all the assorted body hardware. Now trying to decide whether to put a hexaphonic pickup on it for MIDI control. I really want to do it but it's expensive and I'm from Yorkshire. :/

I have to say it's a bit odd the way LFS is developed. I know the devs are very protective of their right to release what they want when they want, but commercially it doesn't look like a very good way to work.

On the one hand they've created a lot of anticipation for their next release, and typically that feeling seems to reach a peak beyond which no product can live up to the expectation of its consumers. Also it's clear that many of the long-term vocal supporters of the product have become frustrated and equally-vocally critical of the development process in recent years.

I agree with the statement that the devs don't owe anybody anything, and again I agree that LFS has always been a great platform and I spent many happy years being beaten in races by many of you, but I do think the lack of any recognisable release schedule has harmed it.

Having been working in software development for the last 15 years or so, I know that you can never stand still - or be perceived to be standing still. It's what kills a lot of great products.

The 'Rally Pack' was something the forum users were talking about when I turned up in 2005, so it's an idea that is ten years old and has not materialised yet.

I appreciate that there are features that are still expected to arrive that are many years late, but I would not expect any 'rally pack' to ever happen.

I enjoy the physics in LFS but when you look at what Kunos is doing the shortcomings of the LFS tyres are pretty obvious. I can understand why they don't want to release the new content without the tyre update.

Hopefully there's a visual refresh in the pipeline too because the sim is looking very dated these days. I won't be disappointed if that doesn't happen - it's not important in terms of gameplay - but I think if the sim is going to continue to attract new players it will need a spruce-up.

Quote from Fordman :He needs to be made to suffer like the families of the victims, but guess what, under the Human Rights Act, out of Brussels's this won't happen

Maybe we should let individuals opt out of the human rights act. So you, the conservatives, all the Daily Mail readers, you can all opt out of the human rights act and get a good idea of what it's like to get locked up without trial and tortured for a few years.

I guess Norway should follow the USA's example on punishing mass shooters, after all you guys have a new one to punish every couple of weeks.

Actually yeah the premiership football suggestion may be a good one. If Arsenal are still within spitting distance of the premiership trophy by April it would be well worth trying to get a ticket to a home game. They're one of the most attractive teams to watch in Europe and their home stadium (easily accessible by tube but it does get busy on match days) is a brilliant venue. They haven't won the league for ten years and they've been top of the table since... September? Really rare stuff for their fans so the atmosphere would be amazing.

Also see what's on at the National Theatre. Whatever it is go see it. And while you're in the neighbourhood spend a few hours at Tate Modern (free and along with NYC's MOMA one of the two best modern art galleries in the world, IMO). Also it's a short stroll up to St Paul's if you're into your sight-seeing. Within easy walking distance of parliament or Trafalgar Square.

Yeah it was like watching two England teams play eachother.

When Phil Jones stepped up to take his I thought he looked every inch the England player. Exhausted and terrified. When he missed it I thought yeah, you'll fit right in, you're off to Brazil this summer mate!

Quote from DeadWolfBones :Yeah, WPB is actually where I grew up (1983-2006). I suppose it's nice to visit, but I'm a bit blinded by the annoyances of living there.

I was supposed to go there for a week just before christmas for work (Office Depot are one of our customers and their HQ is down there) but some rat bastard decided I had to stay in the UK to meet some other lousy customer and they sent the guy who sits next to me to WPB for a week instead. *ANGRY FACE*

TBH the world cup has already been pretty weak for England fans, I think they'll be glad of an early exit.

I thought a few of the clips on that video were him just avoiding the contact but still going down because it was either get hurt or acknowledge you've been fouled without getting hurt. In a way that's fair enough - the club's paying you a lot of money to be fit, it would be irresponsible to let someone put their studs in your leg in return for a free kick.

But I have seen him dive like a knobhead at least twice.

Just get a gutless little city car, the insurance will be affordable and you'll be able to go wherever you like, whenever you like, for the first time in your life, so you'll love it.

I'd suggest you look for the least-fashionable Daihatsu you can find. Very reliable and cheap to run, totally gutless, very cheap to insure because nobody your age will ever want one. The money you save can go towards getting a 2L bimmer when you've got a few years' no-claims.

Quote from BlueFlame :Also you'd be suprised about the intelligence of the majority of football players. The football player now has to be intelligent, or they won't fit in to the tactics proposed. They have to be free thinking and understand the game generally rather than just kicking a ball about.

What I am surprised about is your intelligence, given that you believe that great intelligence is required to understand the game of football.

Steve Bruce has been a professional manager for years. So has Harry Redknapp and by all accounts he can't even read or write. If you can manage a premiership team and be as thick as Steve Bruce just imagine how thick you can be if all you have to do is take orders from him.

Quote from Matrixi :Is something like this totally useless? I know it doesn't have hammer action or anything, but it's cheap and has USB which is a must...

http://www.casio-intl.com/asia-mea/en/emi/standard/ctk3200/

I sometimes work with a singer who's got one of those. It sounds pretty good but doesn't feel like a piano, the key action doesn't feel heavy enough but I wouldn't say it feels like a toy, it's still quite convincing. I think it's good for the price.

Also IIRC it only had a sustain pedal. If you're playing classical repertoire you'll want a stage piano that supports all three pedals.

Quote from brandons48 :Haha it happened as I was playing, and then all of a sudden that string went super low. I think the core of the string snapped but the winding kept it together, apparently that's common with higher gauge strings. Got a new set on the way

I used to do this all the time with bass strings. I used to pick with my fingers right down by the bridge because I picked too hard and they would just flop all over the place if I picked further towards the neck, but it meant I would often break the core of the string where it passed over the saddle.

The worst one was when I broke an A string core and it stuck to the magnets of my pickups, but the floppy string was getting in the way of my E and D so I had to remove it. I grabbed it with my right hand and just ripped it away from the body, which did break the string but it also shattered the winding and left 13 pieces of nickel embedded in my fingers. Blood everywhere by the end of the gig and a long job picking all the shrapnel out with a needle when I got home.

I wasn't even playing in a metal band either so I got no respect for it whatsoever.

I don't think Suarez is a racist, but you can't have players biting other players can you, it's a bit much!

I think footballers just get a bit carried away too easily, because they're thick, and they sometimes respond with violence, because they're thick. Look at Balotelli - clearly a really nice guy in person, but not above trying to stamp his studs into someone's face if a football match isn't going the way he wants.

The 'local club' I grew up with was Leeds United, and while they had some success when I was a schoolkid their fans are the most abhorrent violent arseholes in the world, so I was never going to be a Leeds supporter.

I live in York now and City are a well supported team, currently struggling to remain mid-table in League 2, but their ground is a 5-minute walk from my house so I support them. I lived in Liverpool for a couple of years and their fans are the best football fans I've ever seen so I like to see them do well, and I also like to see Arsenal do well because I like the way they play and the way their club is run.

But I am pretty much neutral as far as top-level European football goes. So long as Chelsea and Man U lose I don't really care who wins. Although I am sick of Tottenham being considered plucky underdogs given how much money they've spent over the last 5 years, I'd like to see them consistently out of qualification for the CL, unless of course they knock out Chelsea or Man U.

Quote from logitekg25 :not trying to troll, or push this too far off topic, but being born and raised imperial (willing to accept metric, and prefer it for several units); why is it automatic for you to type it at 10mm, instead of 1cm?

Well that's the nice thing about the metric system. 1cm, 10mm, .01m, it's all the same. I guess you can't practically express 3 and a 1/2 inches as fractions of feet, or yards, or fathoms or whatever.
