Whatever it is, when the ginho thinks it's beast the most humane thing to do.. KILLITWITHFIRE!
On a different note, nice Washington plate you have there.
You can get a clean, US-spec Supra for around 20k here, though the cleanest, lowest mileage ones tend to go above that. Sadly we didn't get a "real" Skyline till the GT-R and importing/converting cars is WELL out of my budget, lol. Realistically speaking, the FD's beyond my wallet as well & as stated pages back, may well get replaced by a beefy supercharger under the Miata's hood. I saw an opportunity & had to strike though! Never been a huge S13 fan, though they've peaked my interest before.
TOO MUCH! (for me anyways ) Used, in the 50's I think, for a couple years old with real low mileage? (they can be had cheaper) I'd probably go for a Caymen if I were approaching those levels.. but I lean towards smaller, more nimble cars.
Well a GT-86 is out of my budget, but it's a helluva lot closer than some overpriced, 40-off luxury-mobile. As for Supra's, they still aren't cheap but nowhere near 100k here, for any model or any mileage. I'm not talking about imported RHD type stuff either though.. and I sorta already addressed old BMW's. (no offense, but there're probably a dozen or more cars I'd play with first)
My FD would stomp one hands down, beat it in the twisties & looks better IMO. Still, it'd be nice to have a new, comfortable car with a modern interior that's quick, handles well, looks good & has decent fuel economy. For me, there simply aren't many new cars that fit.. the 86 is one of those few. (that aren't super-car priced or headed in that direction) I'd definitely rather have one than a BMW.. (almost any model that's actually attainable on a realistic budget)
I know the feeling/my Dad's the same way for that sort of thing. (so far I've only bought two cars that were less than 5h+ away & two of the others were over 1000 miles/shipped) Luckily, when my parents were a factor of what I bought, I was living with my Mom. Good luck!
I know nothing of BMW's but did drive 5h one way for my current MX-3 & the owner, (also an older fella), drove 3. It was exactly what I wanted. I say go check it out at least.
Well duhh, of course you wouldn't necessarily want your offroad toy to also be your DD, (unless you had a Wrangler/something pretty reliable & versatile). I wasn't under the impression we were talking about mud holes, rock climbing and/or rally/trail type driving though. He went from a RWD, (that definitely couldn't go far off-pavement), to a peppy FWD with lots of room to haul stuff. All that being said, if I wanted a trail vehicle that could also be a sporty DD, I'd probably buy a Subaru of sorts. FWIW, my first MX-3 saw plenty of offroad action though! (and my first Miata surprised a lot of people who go "green laning" in the mountains behind my house, lol) Oh, and figure this one out.. insurance on the RX is a few bucks cheaper than the Miata?!
EDIT - not mine & but here's a silly vid of my buddy thrashing his beater Legacy, in an area behind my house. (usually dominated by loud 4wd's & cheap beer) please no hate, we were just messing around one sloppy weekend! it's a bone stock automatic with about 260k on the clock & cheap, worn out tires. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xMBWGbl22I he'd do that one weekend, then drive it 400 miles back to college Monday after only washing the windows
What is "green laning"? So far that one catastrophic failure is the only time I've had a real problem with a hobby/DD mix, and it was a freak occurrence that had nothing to do with how the car was treated. (at least not while I owned the engine) That said, I wasn't talking about a highly tuned track car as a DD or anything either. You've gotta choose wisely if you want to try going down that road & yes, it may bite you in the @ss.
And insurance does rape me, a little bit, but I've rarely got all three insured @ once either. Not being a young punk in the insurance co's eyes helps as well, haha.
Not necessarily/that's an area hatchbacks excel at. Before my first 2.5L swap into the MX-3 died, (loose conrod endcap = bad choice of used engines), that's how I rolled - hobby/daily in one. I had a really fun, zippy car that could do it all & achieve 35mpg+ if I stuck to cruise control etc. Then that engine kicked the bucket while loping down the interstate one day & I had to get a replacement, while I revived her. Now look @ my sig.. :cookiemon Before long I'll likely return to one car, as it'd be nice to spread the money I do have around to other areas.
I didn't even know/wasn't expecting a roundabout, (or even knew we had em yet here).. took the exit and all of a sudden there was a goofy circular mess of lines. (thankfully, with nobody but me & said cop around, lol)
(off-topic, but hey, so's the rest of this thread.. lol) Was visiting my cousin in CO somewhat recently, (who's about 1600 miles west of me), & encountered my first roundabout ever @ midnight after having driven 17 hours straight. End result was cop lights, haha. Thankfully dude was understanding/didn't ticket me for going around it bassackwards.
I hope somebody:bananadea'd that Celica down before the show was over and/or before it causes an accident & I'm not even gonna press you further ginho, lol.
(in the back of my mind.. look away from the train wreck, look away from the train wreck, look away from the train wreck!)
You're right, airbags can be a viable option, but we're in a racing game forum discussing small cars, not SUV's/vehicles trying to retain offroad abilities.
Me either, till he brought up winter tires.
Yeah, but low still doesn't necessarily mean fast, (especially on a mostly stock car), same as having too low profile a tire can negatively affect performance. As you said, race cars live on race tracks, but they've also had A LOT of tuning time put into them to make that low stance & treads work together. (on a track)
On a different note, nice Mini Btoryo. Personally, I like the black.
What's sad is the average peeps who do slam their car to such a level, actually think they've increased handling. Put them in any type of competition and they'd see otherwise. (not to mention the typically worsened handling in adverse weather conditions I mentioned eons ago) Now, that doesn't necessarily refer to lil ginho here, as he's already stated he could care less about handling, but it usually seems to be the case. So sad!
He can't help it, I think it comes with the territory. As far as his last dumbass comment, @ first I read it the same as you. Then I realized.. he was probably trying to say he has some kinda skillz when it comes to driving a lowered vehicle. riiiiight!
Haha, I was thinking the same. Of course, for those who don't care as much about handling & want to easily be able to raise & lower their suspension from the driver's seat, I suppose they're a viable option. Generally speaking, they tend to cost more than the vehicles that get slammed to such ridiculous levels though, (which says a lot about the people who do so ).
