LFS Benchmark Poll - Max Resolution
vari
S2 licensed
EDIT3: This has nothing to do with LFS development! It has to do with this: http://lfsbench.iron.eu.org/

What is the maximum resolution your monitor can display? EDIT: 1360*1024 should read 1380*1024^

I've planned on some changes for the next benchmark update and this is one them. I'd like to use highest possible resolution that's still available for majority of people but I need your help to figure out what it is so vote away

Other changes that are planned are:

-Dropping demo compatibility and using different track like south city. This also makes it possible to have a larger grid.
-Setting fixed amount of AA and AF for the 'max' (maybe 4'ish, will do some research to figure out what most people can use again).

All of these will hopefully half the frames for the old video cards (like my 850XT) while not affecting the newer ones much at all as some quick testing showed.

EDIT2: Poll has served its purpose, thanks for voting.

About the registration problems Vari, last night i updated my score. But at first i could not remember my password, so i went to the forgot/reset page.
Entered my email and got a similar if not the same error as Toki.
After closing down browser and starting again it seemed to work

The problem should be solved now. Thanks V

Sometimes it seems to work and sometimes not. Can't really fix it right now but you could simply keep trying in the mean time.

Quote from Gener_AL (UK) :One thing i find bizzare about LFS running this benchmark is the contrast between an Intel System and an AMD system.

Take a look at any of the Intel systems and compare it to rc10racers or my own.

http://lfsbench.iron.eu.org/?c=completemax

Somthing really not right here. I know AMD are slower but not that much slower.

You're right I suppose. Looking at this comparison table http://www.tomshardware.com/ch ... re,818.html?prod=on∏=on the C2D seems to be about 40-50% faster in games but not double like with LFS. However they've used much greater resolution in their gaming tests so the GPU might be more of a limiting factor there, dunno.

Quote from DHRammstein :True, this benchmark is pretty much stretching my CPU's legs, and memory bandwidth, that's about it. We're pretty much comparing CPU's rather than entire systems(CPU/GPU). Not many are posting, the majority of us should have 300-600fps. I'm running an Athlon64 6400+BE OC'd 3.2-3.5, still not a match for the high-end Intel chips, once I build my next system I'll post, my CPU will prevent me from doing very well...

LFS itself has always been like that. The GPU doesn't matter much at all, however with patch Z this has changed a bit it seems. The resolution doesnt matter much at least with my system but maybe someone can confirm this? edit: Doesn't matter with AA/AF disabled but does matter quite a bit with them maxed out.

What do you mean with 'the majority of us should have 300-600 fps'?

This isn't a competition btw or at least never meant to be one. The idea is to provide some information what kind of systems do well if someone is planning on upgrading and also to give some idea for the devs how LFS performs with various systems should they need it. Therefore a result posted with a low end system is just as valuable if not more than with a high end one in my opinion.

Quote from Töki (HUN) :For some reason I can't register. It sais: Error. Failed sending e-mail to <address>

Confirmed, we'll take a look at it. Thanks

Here's the url just in case http://lfsbench.iron.eu.org/

Quote from VoiD :Why not mixed with XFG, XRG and FBM..?

There's the speed difference. XFG and XRG would be so much slower that pretty soon there'd be very few cars to render?

Maybe it's time to change it a bit though (resolution for example) for the next update. I'll make a poll before that.

Quote from Töki (HUN) :A benchmark site already exists, its creators are looking for a host right now. That's why it's unavailable now.

Site isn't up just yet but here's the new replay file for patch z we're going to use if you need/want one now.

http://vari.1g.fi/lfsbench-z.zip

Still FBM/Blackwood for demo compatibility.

Quote from AndroidXP :Wasn't the LFS benchmark horribly outdated anyway? Not that I didn't like it or anything, but what is its use if it's not compatible with the latest patch and therefore graphics engine changes?

Last update was for patch V before the site went down. If you mean that the site wasnt updated when it was down you'd be correct.

We've made new replays after each major patch. Sometimes it has taken longer than it should but we've still done it eventually.

We got a new host and the site should be up in few days. We'll update to patch Z of course.

Quote from Töki (HUN) :Sorry for the huge bump, but it would have been useless to open another topic...

I've noticed that LFS Benchmark site is down... I wanted to check how much FPS would I get with my new comp..

Any news? Being updated or what?

We don't have a suitable host at this time

edit: seems that there's hope now though

JeffR: I believe I agree with you with the clutch not being realistic. The macro is an issue which definitely should be looked at as well. It won't be possible to get rid of them completely in my opinion but perhaps it should be less tempting to use one.

You made some good examples and explained things in detail yet the response is more or less 'go back to NFS'. Such a shame

Quote from Vykos69 :The elite drives on private servers, or where slowpokes are kicked automatically (right, vari? )

That's right although the 'slowpoke' in this case means slower than newbie AI with a caravan.

I find the thread a bit strange. There are ~600 hosts which means one host per user usually. Surely all of them aren't elitist?

Variety is good, pick a host you like.

Please use Private Messaging with things like this, answered there.

Quote from Bladerunner :Yep...tested it out today and there is a definite truncation of messages..I think that the text string limit isn't cutting in on the entry side, allowing you to type longer messages, but it is still truncated in the display side...but NOT on your own screen...you still see the whole message.

Yep, thirded although I think it's on the display side. If not, longer messages would actually be kinda nice

Quote from Kid222 :Yeah, nice racing with 31 other racers, this OLT server is very good!
Edit: This text on picture makes me laugh. (Even my mother can win in FXO.)

It was true fact before balancing Now she'd need an empty server hehe

Quote from Misko :But bad thing was our fps. P4 2.53 ghz was at 100% and stuggled to keep up (graphics card was fine, 7600gs). Very often we got almost slideshows and had to talk about that, how demanding LFS became with lots of cars, and how this is only a test patch, things are always improving and so on. But I don't want to go OT with that. Thanks again for being there.

With 32 cars on the grid some settings should be tweaked a bit imo. Here's a pic shot from my point of view (last place on the grid) with full AA and AF. I've increased dynamic lod reduction to 0.7 while putting mirror lod and dust lod to the minimum. Whether you find blocky wheels ok or not is a matter of preference but 60 fps sure makes it easier to race with

Thanks for all the racers, was great

Full grid (32) and even full host (47) at some point I think

Heads up!

Autoplus TV in serbia is going to show some LFS action tonight @ about 22:00 CET (2 hours from now). They're gonna be on the OLT Pro Racing server so be there and make a crowd

It'll be usual racing in one of the Aston configs (probably Historic) with TBO cars.

The Host can be a bit unfriendly towards new people so it might be best to try it out a bit in advance.

P.S. Host is W17

Quote from Scawen :That's really strange... was there a host control program running? I can only think that somehow it got into a state of loading autocross objects at the same time as loading a track, but that should be impossible. Maybe through InSim it can be done...?

Yes, the insim program rotates tracks whenever the race is ended and some of the tracks in rotation have autox objects by default like barriers and bales to prevent cutting.

edit: confirmed, insim was connected at the time. (The dedi didn't crash.)

Quote from Hyperactive :Well, it might be better suited thread on the "LFS Hosts Forum" than here but I'm not really bothered.

Quote :LFS Hosts Forum
A section where hosts can discuss server administration. This is not the place to let people know you have a host up & running.

We'll consider those reverse's. Westhill and Gold Rev was only added today so no idea how they work So Classic (too many accidents in chicane) and Blackwood (done to death) were removed.

Bunch of new stuff has been added like !fuel which will tell you an estimate of the fuel consumption (seems to be pretty accurate)

Quote from Becky Rose :Sorry but I dont bend every time some prima donna throws a hissy fit because his mate broke a finger nail whilst a crow was flying west at 18 degrees lattitude.

Quite what the problem is with keeping your licence intact I dont know, but seeing as you do nothing but complain and waste my [very precious] time over some personal vendetta, i'll go wipe your points now and apply a lifetime ban.

Happy now?

EDIT: I'm loosing track of the list of people who hate me because I tried to give them something good.

Yes, thank you

I don't feel like I'm responsible for your time wasting since removing the points would have been less typing then the numerous PMs and posts made about this. I could say that you've wasted mine but as it isn't as precious as yours I won't! I don't understand what's the problem with agreeing to disagree and parting ways in a quiet manner. Don't tell me I should have added an AI

Now I got the ban anyways so I guess that would have been the easier route than to ask for the points to be removed in a pm! Not that it's a big deal but slightly amusing nevertheless

Thanks again.
