Why would you ever discuss nationalities here I wonder... The topic question is kinda acknowledged problem (no matter how bad it is put). But the attitude this guy shows is one thing and where he comes from -- another one.

I have seen a lot of such nationality rubbish here and it wasn't ever good.

First, developers do acknowledge that request and keep confirming their intention to make editor at some point in future (latest mention of editor I could find: https://www.lfs.net/forum/post/1912398#post1912398 ).

So what is the point of that thread? Are you implying that editor should be given top priority? Okay, I would agree myself to be honest, but that's not us who make this decision...

The poll here is pointless because I don't get what is the question? I would be really interested to find out if there is any valid reason NOT to release editor (and just throwing "rfactor disaster" argument here is not a valid point to me). I guess the ones who voted "No" are people who agree that first comes tyre physics, then graphics improvements, then editor (which roughly represents the plan Scawen himself revealed).

I post this because I really don't want this thread to be a place where people discuss whether we should or should not get the editor.

Quote from nacim :It is not. Wink And it's not flickering, there is just some point lights there, don't know why.

It rather looks like shadow glitches there, like if you're driving on the edge of shadowed area.

BTW, I found no bugs with Q3 so far.

For me it is good enough to know that "Eric has been working on tracks" Thumbs up

Quote from kagurazakayukari :Is it possible to temp disable the vote track function?

No, you can only disable it with track_vote_enable false in servers/<name>.cfg and restarting.

Today's graphics are all on the subtility, and trying to be the most physically based possible, now that we're getting enough horsepower to do so.

Hopefully, LFS will keep prioritizing simulation fluidity and low-latency instead of good look, even though I wish it gets better look soon Smile

Talking about Unity is kinda ridiculous here knowing how much care is taken on saving every single bit of performance. Yet it is also ridiculous that doing everything by yourself made LFS outdated in both performance and appearance aspect (still no track shaders, and also do u remember how many weeks Scawen spent on proper alpha sorting?..)

Fixed. Redownload through the same link.

BTW WARNING there is a minor bug in this version: you can not end/restart during the practice session even if you're admin (you can only do it if everyone will vote for the same thing, no mater if admin or not). To get around this, run /laps 1 command and then you can do the stuff you need (/end or /restart). If you need to get back to practice mode afterwards, you can just put /laps 0 when session starts

Quite a lot of MARUS WRs got wiped coz of handbrake usage.

What you should not forget is that whenever someone switches from mouse to wheel it takes a lot of time to get back to your mouse pace initially. I heard of couple guys who purchased wheel but keep playing on mouse because wheel didn't work for them.

...

Also, sometimes people use mouse for steering and pedals for throttle/braking - this one is good for hotlapping, and you can't check if those WRs were done with that combo, coz LFS would tell it is "W".

And there is also another thing into it: steering lock. If you have smaller steering lock then it is kinda best of all worlds - you have good throttle/braking control plus it is easy to counter steer. Precision can get worse but not too bad there.

There is no way to check everything of that from LFS WR database, so there is not much point in putting the question in "what is better"-way.

As of the points density, you might get some rough idea from screenshots

Former mouse driver reporting in.

Wheel is not necessarily faster, especially if you have eazy mouse track. But there are things that are significantly harder with mouse:
  • curved braking lines (someone mentioned ABS hacks?), trail braking and even normal braking
  • following another car or going side by side
  • being stable for more than ~5 minutes stint
Some people can overcome this to pretty high degree, but what myself gained with wheel is ability to do long stints which helped a lot to develop in this game. After I got better I can even switch to mouse with FO8 and be alright for couple laps. (Before buying wheel I couldn't drive FO8 at all).

Just keep in mind that you gonna have to learn the game from the ground up again Smile

Important bug fix (!pb crash) version 2.0.4 released. Download: Linux Windows

Changes:

2.0.4
+ Consider classes aswel when processing database query
- Will not write database when no new WRs were found
- Use /clear instead of /spec when initializing track voting
- Stop track voting if server got empty
- Fix crash on !pb command

vitaly_m

Version 2.0.3 released. Download: Linux Windows

Changes:

+ !stints command to show recent stints. They are saved to separate
database for each server in 'stints' directory. Configurable minimum
laps to save and number of stints to store.
+ You can create custom info windows, like !info, !rules and stuff
like that. See servers/srv1.cfg.example
+ In database query (!top, !avg, !tb, !tbs) you can type a number or
username to scroll to desired position
+ Settings window will open on SHIFT+I
+ Will query allowed cars from LFS server, therefore showing some of
the allowed cars on !top (and others) query
+ If server is set to practice mode, will cancel restart or end vote
until everyone requests that
- Fixed !pb command always displaying the user who typed it instead of
the requested one
- Will write a warning if can not receive UDP data from LFS
- Fixed the case where LFSTop started up while someone was on SC1 and
his lap could get valid even though LFSTop had no information
whether the whole SC1 was legit.
- HLVC invalidation data won't be displayed on outlap anymore
- Data export will now format message properly (will fill
%total_records with number of records in the table)
- Track vote is cancelled if admin selects a track himself
- Reworked user settings window (still ugly though)
- Fixed uptime print in !ver command
- Fixed improper data display when user presses splits/sections
switch, where database was updated between the moment he opened the
window and pressed the switch. Also switching is a bit faster now

Changes from release candidate:

- Fix bug where query would use previous track data for people who
were on server during the track change.

[RFC] Let insim program cancel the vote before starting timer
vitaly_m
S3 licensed
When vote is accepted by the game (Restart/End/Qualify), it can give some time to insim program to cancel that.

We already have similar behaviour with IS_JRR (join request response). That allowed us to filter joins instead of spectating a player if something is not fit.

That's the same case with my request. I send the TINY_VTC (vote cancel) right after I get the IS_VTN (vote notify), but timer still appears, which can bother people around.
Outdated info in SMALL_ALC after requesting it right after "/cars" command
vitaly_m
S3 licensed
Subj.

What happens step by step:
Admin executes "/cars" command
I get IS_ACR with such info.
I send SMALL_ALC to get current list of cars.
I get SMALL_ALC with outdated information.

Also, would be really nice if SMALL_ALC would be sent automatically after the "/cars" command (since it is already sent every time a player joins a track for example)

Offtop kinda: How I will overcome it for now:
I will use SMALL_ALC only for initial synchronization when connecting, and after that will just monitor "/cars" command.

Quote from Neilser :Yes, it is smarter - not just RPM-based. I believe we discussed this (much) earlier in the thread, no?
AFAIK, the built-in uses the "correct" shift point based on the torque curve and knowledge of the gearbox ratios. No idea if it uses a modified torque curve as the altitude varies, but I strongly suspect that the torque curve varies quite a lot with engine restriction and that would be pretty important for the shift points...

Ye, there is something smart going on.

It is easy to spot on the attached setup. Just look at the shift_up lights going from 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 gears.

For now I'll switch to builtin dashboard for GTR then.
