Quote from Simpson :Hello
I think "drive trough pits" instead of "30s" penalty when falstart would be better (if we want to make game more realistic)
30s would be good on 1 lap race.

+1

This is a very sensible suggestion

Ive been thinking alot about the "no space Bar ressetting option". I agree this is realistic and that there should be this option. I however see numerous reasons why there should be a middle option. The middle option being how it previously was.

Not every server is full of hardcore racers in full on, full blow league racing, not every server is demo, or introduction racing. There are those Friday night servers where racing for fun - is ruined by being rolled and having to reset, cope with the damage struggle to the pit and go out and join your mates again.

With a server with 48 people, all they are going to do - is shift+S, go back to the pits and re join the race but however many laps down - real angry and then possibly wreck some one else race, when really if you want to go the whole realism thing - they should not be able to shift+S at all - and go straight to spectate.

Because there are 48 connections, racing - some people will sit waiting to join the race for ages - then to be flipped on to your roof by an inocous, nothing of a tap - then have to restart from the pit is abit lame - when its a friday night, out for some fun.

Another reason - Rallying - on how many occasion do we see rally cars righted by the crowd? OK - in this circumstance we dont have a full rallying setup yet -but if it is to be introduced, then so should the space bar reset (I believe).

I also feel that if it is realism that we are aiming at - then why do we have multiple racing views? Why are we not locked to driving from in car only?

I do feel that the old space bar reseting should not be ruled out and that it should be left as a server side option, for the server hoster to decide.

One mans view - that could possible do with a spin off thread??

No, canreset should be "no" for all hosts except arcade hosts for beginners. This is supposed to be a purely "arcade" option, it fixes damage and takes you out of the gravel, that's good for example if you have LFS set up at a show and the public are using it. For sim racing, canreset should not be switched on at all. I'd prefer not to add a middle option.

So in all essence then - Space reseting on normal online servers for day to day racing 5 lappers etc/club/league racing - is no longer an option. Thats cool. You roll it and stop on your roof - thats race over.

Fine by me.

Space Resetting

Found that if you are on track with resettting enabled - that it will not allow you to reset - due to causing yellow flags - Thats the message I got anyway.

I thought I should raise the fact - that although in the first instance this seemed ideal - Rests are allowed anyway - but it should reset you off the track egde - rather than back on the track.

The scenario - Ive gone through the first chicane at blackwood - hit the barrier and rendered my car undrivable in the center of the exit to the chicane. Reset is enabled - but I cant reset because I will cause yellow flag. SO the next car piles straight into me as I cant move away from the racing line.

If resetting is enabled - why disable it on the racing line?

The above post is not a critisism, it may come across that way - but its asking the question rather than saying its wrong - cheers

Excellent New Patch Gonna be great for the leagues....

Have found the following small issues

1) With space reset enabled - it resets damage (changes tyres for fresh and clear all damage)- it should not do this - as you should have to pit to repair damage (this was in Multiplayer)

2) in F9 wheel view (in RB4)- the connections tab now covers the left hand rear wheel so I cant see the outer band temp -

3) False start issues but reported in other posts.

The video brings back some memories..

However - niot really that good an example of marbles on the tracks.

Not a real good example either as there is a mix of graveol in it - but its the same effect but exagerated.

Quote from orange_boy_uk :Not having a go but i do find it funny when people get soo worked up because some one has their skin then say it's copyrighted... it's not copyrighted, the actual game is but the skins.. not.

Have to agree - Ive been skinning for years - made a fair few - some good - some not so bad - some in LFS some in NAscar...

I dont see the point in getting worked up about it - Take the fact that its a compliment that some one uses your skin..

I did get a lil bit vexed when some one took my Clio V6 skin - and Riced it up by writing v6 power down the side... lol

But all in all - your never gonna stop anyone using your skin - whether it says Copyrighted/do not use/this is mine not yours or not. Its not as if your going to be able to prosecute them for it... cos I would like to see anyone try - Thats one hell of a lot of cash to fork out - for something that would not even make it to a court.

Dont get hung up on it - move on - lifes to short.

Quote from KurtG85 :My FPS has now dropped to often unplayable levels now with this latest patch and everything is set at lowest possible settings allready. Im afraid I may be bumped off this game entirely due to system performance, and dont tell me to just get a new system. I've got a wee bit more important things to spend on at the moment and for awhile. :'(

Kurt - this new patch carries more benefitsd to system performance - you should not be suffering system performance issues.

Essentially give the pc a full check up form the neck up - defrag, clean up - remove those unnessercary programs etc, create some room on the hard drive - aand give it another go.

This patch was an improvement on performance - nothing new added except for sound configs etc.

Just d/led V5 - and ran some checks on the last version I ran which was V2 - been working alot and havent had chance.

The name drawing over cars seems to be fine - a big improvement.

Just whacked everything up to full - highest possible settings on everything, bet restricted frames in game to 50 (tested and it runs at 80 - 90 unrestricted)

Im running a 3htg setup
AMD 4600+
2x Nvidia 7600 GT in SLI mode
2 meg mem

When I look at a car from side on - I get square wheels at approx 10 ft. = turn the car slightly and wheels show as round.

Reducing the various settings does not change the outcome.

Is this an issue?
Has this been done as a frame rate saver?
Should it be doing this?

It detracts from the eye candy somewhat is all -I can live with it but just looks weird.

I was actualy just driving round thinking how awesome LFS looks now - Cracking job well done!!

I didnt notice that to start with... I am also on a TH2Go set up, and I have my draw distance set to max, every thing runnng full, and have experienced the same. I only see the player name when almost on top of the car in front.

Its not really a bug - but would prefer to see the name earlier (at a greater distance)

Wireless normally operates at only 10mb/s - which is the same as a normal 10/100 nic connection. I dont suffer because my broad band is only 2 mb/s but it does lag....

I used to be wireless, and found it laggy as you describe. Now I run an ehternet cable and gain the maximum benefit so usefull my full broadband capacity - however - where I gain is on my lan - I can run upto 125 mb/s when transferring files or info.

I only now run wireless when I move my pc to areas where I can use the ethernet - ie when visitors come and I have to vacate my pc room.

Go for the ethernet if you can.

Just to point out tho - have you read the threads on loosing connection to the master server, currently there is a lot of people suffering with this issue - but its only seems to be temporary while BT sorts out its excahnges. Might be worth reading the threads and seeing if thats where your problem lies.

Have a read of the technical section threads.....

Bt are upgrading their networks - and they havent told the ISP's.... You are suffering poor connection due to the excahnge upgrades - and each one is taking about 2 weeks - your connection will be ok in a fortnight...

Press - select + R3 + Right button behind wheel - (option gear change button)

This will illuminate both lights at top of wheel and give you full 900 degree - to change back to 180 - press the same buttons.

Quote from SamH :Did it fix itself or is it something you did that finally cleared it up? Knowing the solution will give this thread some extra value for future reference.

All I can say is that it came back to full service just the same as it went crappy.

Ive had a response from my ISP - they said they didnt recieve an email from me - I replied giving them all the info I had 0 including the Lycos Page that was posted above - and they said they knew nothing of the work going on.

I am about to go online and check that all is stil working now - Ill edit this post if it isnt any good.

Cheers

I can at last say my issues are over...... I can connect at full speed with no lag issues - or disconnects. The master server list drops in within 30 secs - no issues...

And still no response from Pipex.......

Thanks for all your help chaps - even though it got damn frustrating during the weekend - I can spend this weekend - happily blasting around the servers (hopefully).

Ive done the same a few times - but never checked if anything changed apart from the pings and nodes.. however Im still on #4... but my line speed has changed from 1.8meg - to 2.2meg.. hmmmm

Many thanks....

Thanks for the comments guys - I am frustrated - thats clear but the last thing I want to do is have "beefs" with anyone - so I am attempting to keep the thread constructive- not spamming - but putting up what I consider to be usefull info to other users of the forum. (if they choose to read it of course.)

Ive just read the other post regarding a congested exchange and Im kinda hoping the issue is the same with me.

For now - Ill leave this thread here - I think more than enough people are aware.

Thanks...

I understand your point AA - no issue there bud.

No - I am not hoping the problem lies within LFS - it's only because thats where I am in my break down of where I am in realtion to sorting out my problem... for the following reasons.

1) the LFS Dev are superb at there job - but there not infallible...
2) Having a fix within LFS would the easiest and most effiecient way to go - because my problems have only occured since the master server move.
3) Sticking ones head in the sand and ignoring an issue is not the way to go.
4) The 1 defining factor between all parties is the fact that they are all having the same issue .ie connecting to master server and not being able to play consistantly on line - not just at peak times (like myself)

Although - I am currently still awaiting a formal response from my ISP.

You seem abit vexed though AA. No need to be.

Just raced for a happy almost 2 hours on the STCC server... Upto 15 people in a race.

I was not disconnecting - but several others did.

Bear in mind this was between 7:30 am - 9:30 am on a sunday - hardly peak time.

So over the last few days - I have had little success at peak times - good success at none peak times.

So to deduce from that -

Either its my connection/ISP that is the cause - band width shaping/throttling - or just not able to compete with other connections trying to get to the laster server.

Or - its the master server now being over subscribed.

Over the past few days - the server has been relocated to a "Server House" - away from its old location. The move seemed to have gone well. As part of the move - all the old version users - were asked to patch up to patch V - meaning the whole community would now be on patch V. (I dont know if that would have a significant factor - but its a point to consider.) The U30 and previous users were running on the old server - asking them to patch up would increase traffic though the new master server.

Yesterday mornings shut down showed an interesting graph on LFSW world - showing 250 users like ghosts in the server - personally I dont think they are "ghosts" I think the stats board read that as it last reading and due to no stats continued to read that figure (however I hope to be proved wrong.)

All in all...

There are a couple of factors that I have no knowledge about.

What is the capacity of the master server?
What are the band width limits within the server house its in?
Has the move putting all the "online components" togethor, actually brought to the surface a couple of floors in the system?

Regardless - it seems a bit strange that lots of people have the issue... its a good thing to check out the tracert, and pinging the server but - provide info for the devs to use.

They are either quite happily not knowing theres a problem - or they are working behind the scenes like mad - burning the mid night oil - trying to fix the issue.

Im hoping they will provide a statement soon that will clear up the issue.

there are 5 similar threads associatted with this issue - see below in Technical threads.

As yo will see I have a long post regarding it.

Anyone who reffers you to your ISP, is probably giving the correct advice - however... I really dont think it is.

There was a server shut down yesterday, Scawen and Victor were onlnie - and they mentioned in passing that there was a technical issue with the server - which meant they had to shut down.

My impression is that they are aware of something amis - but if its related to your and my issue - then I hope they can fix it.

Other wise - thats nothing that can be done at this point in time until the Devs come out with a statement of some form that says - they have an issue of not.

Please bear in mind - no official statement has been made - and my comments above are assumptions based on what I have read.

Last bit of advice - read through the other threads and follow the checks that are emntioned.
