Now thats the kind of answer and explanition I can work with.... superb - thanks very much
Great - major coincidence that the issues has started along with the master server move tho.
I was thinking about how the msater server reacts and interacts with the my pc and the servers hosting "LFS sessions" and it did occur to me that it only provides a link essentially - then maintains a link to the master server. It really only points my pc in the direction of the "session".
I have tried not to directly point a finger any where - I just couldnt find an answer - when everything was working absolutly bang on - and no one was giving a clear reason.
Your words are greatly apprieciatted. Ta very much.
Ive been in touch with Pipex and they are not quoting any system outages or issues - but they are stating that there web systems are being updated. They have said this should not cause any issue to my connection.
I have upgraded to a bigger line - so if there are any band width issues - in 7 - 10 working days - they should be history.
I have been driving on line this afternoon - and all was good up to 5:30pm - then suffered 3 disconnects during races - Had a few could not connect to server issues - did not recieve "ok"? did not recieve messages - the same.
I have had 3 plus years of online game play with with LFS - on line service has been awesome. This master server move is either conincidental - and my system sucks - or there are issues.
Im hoping that this is just a settling period - and Im happy to go with it - or Im happy to post up daily issues until a fix is found - at my end or the Devs.
Although probably not the most common net provider - but they provide unlimited internet - and Ive been with them for nigh on 5 years - and Have had very little issue with connection - very minimal outage - and an extremly competative rate.
I walked round the block last night - after posting - so see if BT were working on the lines anywhere - and I have found the junction box just down the road - with the doors ripped off. This is exposing the connections to the elements and it was -6 last night.
Im still banking on the side of a issue with "traffic" at peak times through the master server.
Ive checked - and double checked everything on my machines from firewalls (software and hardware) to system issues and I cant see anything causing an issue.
Well - amazing what a nights sleep can do - got up this morning at 9 am, and can now connect to all servers - no issues - no disconnects - consistant frames - no lag - all good. I bet it was my ISP having issues.
Before I have posted this thread - I have tried everything I know of to fix this problem.
Since the master server move - I cannot maintain a connection to a server with more than approx 10 cars for more than a lap. When connected on my own I can run for hours....
I have reformatted - once because I didnt realise it was the master server had moved. I have reformatted again this morning - as the Master server move thread has gone quiet so a presume I am on my own with this issue.
I have just optimized my TCP/IP setting using the Win xp Patch for PPPoE connections as that what I have - yet I still have the same issue.
I am on a home Lan - and my Lan setting are unchanged but to eliminate this from the situation - I have disconnected the other pcs - (essentially disabling the Lan) - and connected direct to the internet.
I have a wireless axcess port - which I have confirmed is disabled - (so that no-one is robbing my connection).
Ive rebooted and reset my router.
Ive checked my ISP site for network issues and there are none reported.
To ensure my pc is not lagging in game from to much processor operation - I limited frames to 50, minimum sleep is set to 1.
Im at a total loss, dont know what to do next.
Any suggestions
Apart from installing another driving game of course to see if the issue is the same - but it was not before the reformat/s. I dont want to play anything else - I want to drive on LFS and enjoy my pc time
Ive been trying to connect to the more popular servers - to get a bit of a race on - but I cant even get into the server - some times returning error message says - cannot connect to master server- other times - not recieving player inofrmation. Some times I just dont get it.
Sometimes - I will connect - but then on joining race- it wont allow me to join and boots me. I can see my connection bar going up into the red - then I get kicked.
I have however just connected to a host - running with 2 or 3 happy racers - and all was good.
Conclusion
Looks like my 2 meg line can no longer hack a full server..... Time to call my ISP and upgrade.
For clarification purposes - I was on the server 5 mins before I typed the post - but no issue as they are working now. It was my first connection on the new master server, and I was the only person in the server - ran 3 laps - then resest to pits - then ran 3 more laps. fastest time of 1:57:45 -
First time Ive tried to get on line since last night - connected no problems.
Excellent stuff....
Allthough - I have done a full reformat cos LFS did not work before reading this thread....
However - only thing I have noticed that isnt functioning as before is the fact that PB's are not registering..
Just ran some laps in the FOX at AS Nat - I config Ive not run before and no laps Ive run have recorded - It didnt even tell me I have driven the first lap on this track.
Its great to hear that you guys have got things on track.... Best of luck, hope things pan out as needed -and that the CRC does reach its full potential.
To add more to this - Ive discovered something further with a lil help from a friend...
The above issue has happened again - with no installation of any further new hardware..
Ive had to do a total reformat... but then the issue happened again. It was suggested that I start to retrace my steps of what Ive done.
Installed windows, grpx card drivers, installed all the windows updates - basically got the pc back to a stable platform. Started to install games, of course this meant LFS first.
Plugged in my USB controller, joystick, and wheel. Installed the wingman drivers, as all my controllers are logitech. This is where we started to notice the similarity to the above post. My mouse is also logitech.
I went into LFS and adjusted my forcefeedback from 0 to 50, and the game ran at the double speed again - lagging in severs and the replay was incompatible. Reducing the forcefeedback to 18%, made it come back to a working game online, no lag, and a compatible replay. However the FFB was almost none existant.
By removing the controller and the joystick, I can have as much FFB as I like and all tickity boo.
Glad were at the root of the problem... no more reformats and I can use FFB, but it dosent make me any faster lol.
So - route of the problem.... LFS does not like more than 1 controller plugged in when using FFB. IS it a bug or a compatibility issue?
This weekend I purchased a new mouse as the last one cooked itself to death (its over 5 years old.)
Ive upgraded to a G5 Logitech Gamers mouse.
Now although strictly this is not a bug, it does mean that LFS will no longer allow play on line, I do not appear in servers, all I see is everyone else lag.
The mouse comes with a software package that allows you ingame to change the DPI/sensitivity and mouse speed, which is excellent for first person shooter etc, so on installing I didnt think anything else but to allow the "engine" of the software app to seach for all game exe's and auto configure each one. Thats was the mistake...
It was only on starting up, and running an offline race, which I do to calibrate my wheel prior to going online that I discovered, that the changes to software app made to the exe file, allowed the UF1 to do sub 35 sec laps of Aston Cadet...
Easy fix - re-installed to another path, and moved my setup and Skins folders across....
Not strictly a bug, but, reading the logitech readmes, the mouse doesnot change anything on the exe files, it just reads for common info, like keystroke presets etc...
So the question is why would this corrupt the exe? and make it incompatible on line?
Ive just shown this to the loverly lady in the footage, not telling what it was before she saw it!!!!!!!!
We had a great day yesterday, going along to the meet was in the way of supporting Franky500, meeting some more members of the ATC and CRC teams The added bonus was meeting every one else as well. It was great to put faces to names, not just for me but Gill aswell... The music was damn loud in that place, just to cover the engine noise and I couldnt hear a damn thing most of the time, just nodding to encourage conversation, not wanting you to repeat yourselves too many times....
I was never supposed to race, but it was a nice suprise to have the opportunity. It was noticable on the day, there were all standards racing, at such a high quality, (I never expected Scawen to go that quick!!!) It wasnt hard to work out the track, and it was easy to loose pace if you got too slow in a corner.
Bob m8 - I hadnt a clue what stratergy you wanted to run, went for 15 minute stints and you left me out there for ages. My arms were so numb after the stint that I could not hold a bottle of drink, pins and needles in my hands, and nearly poured it down my chest, so I left you out a bit longer.....
It was great fun - And no - Im not allowed a Cyber Seat.....
There is a small area on Fern Bay - that looks like it was considered for future track configurations... but in all track variations its not used.
Banger racing in the UF1 - seems to be becoming really, really popular... When ever I go on its almost always full, and its a real ltreat to be in a server where, everyone is getting on. Wreckers dont rule here, because everyone is doing it.
Would it be posible to have this area of track so it can be driven on - currently I fall off the end of the world about 1/2 way round it.
There are lots of little banger racing circuits starting to poop, up, with people making them using the autocross tool.
This area of track would be an excellent purpose made small oval track, ideal for banger racing.
On So1 - town course - when entering the pits, theres a nasty lil kerb around the outside of the turn, right by the wall....
No its something I have to get used too I know, but I keep running into it - I just clip it slightly and it throws me over the wall.... with potential disastrous results for other competitors....
Its there as a hazard I know... but I find its just to easy for it to flip the car over... even at low speed..
Could it be removed - theres a wall there after all - which is punishment enough... or just smooth it a wee bit - like a normal corner kerb..
I have not seen this requested before - apologies if its a double post.
