Awesome, I was able to get it to work with my DK2, I had best results with no vsync and no limiter (my fps was around 175-200), otherwise I would see a bit of judder while looking around. With the needed fix for chromatic aberration it will be great

Quote from Bob Smith :News is posted when there is something to tell. Any regular blog would quickly get repetitive and boring. Just like popular server combos.

No. You are ridiculously wrong. How can you pretend to have enough insight to know that everyone would find regular developer oriented updates repetitive and boring?

Can you provide a single example of a development blog that is repetitive and boring and of no interest to people who care about the product? Would you consider a blog like Carmack used to do to be repetitive and boring?

Quote from dawguk :This is just one aspect of why, in certain cases, it would be significantly less efficient to just throw more people at it.

While there is more overhead with more people you clearly have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to software development. There is no doubt that making the programming team 2 or 3 would would speed up development(ignoring the headache of finding/organizing a new developer at the beginning). The problem is that is simply not what Scawen wants to do, he wants to work on the program at his own pace by himself. This of course conflicts with most people who don't care about how Scawen wants to work and just want more LFS immediately.

Quote from mcintyrej :Am I the only one who doesn't see this as a big problem? As soon as a speed hacker is on a server, surely they just get banned by vote/admin? I don't see why admins would sit and watch a speed hacker, just ban them. Once their banned from so many servers in a week or something they get a perm ban, afaik.

But what about when their times get recorded on LFSworld?

The slow development pace can be blamed on Scawen refusing to expand the number of developers. I know all about the mythical man month and adding programmers to a project, but adding one other competent person to handle the more mundane things like working on the AA/AF support would leave Scawen to work on more interesting updates and probably more than double the progress. Not to be too critical of Scawen when he obviously knows what he is doing but how does anyone benefit at all from such a long development cycle?

I too have taken a long break from LFS, hopefully new tracks and content(1 new layout in how long?) will come sometime and I will be interested again.

It's funny how some of the same people who are calling him just a fanboy are just LFS fanboys. A lot would probably still be defending LFS as the best ever even if development hadn't progressed past S1.

I'll wait to actually drive in gt5 but it being a console game I wouldn't get my hopes up. I'll just keep waiting for more content for LFS.

Well said BBT, people like Gunn add nothing to this debate and personally I find people like Gunn much more frightening than CueBall.

In a perfect world we wouldn't ever need a gun, but we don't live in a perfect world. I would rather not live in a nanny state where the government takes everything away that it thinks might potentially cause a problem, because going down that path leads to a state that takes away a lot more than the ability to own a gun.

People keep mentioning these atrocities that were committed with guns and then saying that if only we banned all guns those would never happen. Like I mentioned before, if the world was perfect and banning guns meant *poof* all guns are now gone that would work, but people who want to will still be able to get guns even if you outlaw them. To say that banning all guns might save some lives from one instance is not enough to justify the action, you could also save a hell of a lot of lives by making all speed limits 30MPH or banning public sale of cigarettes, but I don't see these same people advocating those things. Why not, you want to see people die in car accidents?

The likely response is that the greater good is served by allowing those things to exist even with the associated negative consequences, isn't it possible that a certain amount of gun ownership can operate along those same lines?

Quote from Gunn :You have misread the quote entirely and your example makes no sense.

It was a sarcastic remark trying to make the point that making something illegal won't necessarily make it vanish and if you outlaw guns only outlaws will have them. Meaning the people who you are trying to prevent from having guns are the criminals that will use them for illegal purposes, and if they were already going to commit a crime they likely aren't going to respect the law that says they shouldn't have a gun in the first place. So what does the law achieve? It removes the ability for law abiding citizens to own guns. Of course that largely ignores the difference between the types of guns(concealed hand guns vs shotguns) and what a person would actually need a gun for anyway. Is the public better served by taking away their ability to do something if it might increase their safety somewhat?

Rather than rehashing the same arguments, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gun_politics seems to have a good summary

ie what I just said above is summarized in the wikipedia article as:
Quote :
Supporters of gun-rights consider self defense to be a fundamental and inalienable human right and believe that firearms are an important tool in the exercise of this right. They consider the prohibition of an effective means of self defense to be unethical and to violate Constitutional guarantees. For instance, in Thomas Jefferson’s "Commonplace Book," a quote from Cesare Beccaria reads, "laws that forbid the carrying of arms . . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes . . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

Quote from thisnameistaken :This is an important point which you seem to prefer to ignore - if people don't have access to firearms on the day they totally lose the plot, innocent people don't die.

Kind of like how since drugs(narcotics, marijuana, etc) are illegal regular people don't have access to them?

Quote from P5YcHoM4N :That and keep slaves so everyone can be equal and free.

You do realize that Republican is the party of Lincoln, who freed the slaves. The ideals of a particular party can drift and change over time, which is why I hope there is a chance the current trend of Republican opinion can be changed.

Quote from thisnameistaken :How's that national debt going BTW?

Exactly why one should support Ron Paul, he supports limited government and a sound financial system instead of just printing money and going into debt. As he has said his views are more in line with traditional republican values, so I think he has a shot.

Not sure how many people here have heard of Ron Paul, but he is certainly an interesting candidate(anti war, pro limited government, pro freedom republican). There is another fundraising drive for him today, the last one had over 35k people donate over 4 million in 24 hours. If nothing else it's at least interesting to watch the live graphs of donations: http://paulcash.slact.net/

Quote from March Hare :Didn't try it while online but I doubt it works.

No, currently you can use it while online.

I'm not sure I'm convinced that it should be limited to only local practice sessions, it seems like it is exactly the same kind of thing as the shift+l screen showing the suspension and camber in real time or the f9 menu showing the tire temps in real time, both aren't strictly realistic but they add to the sim and help the driver.

I didn't see any other threads talking about this, what do people think of the green racing line available in the test patch? Personally I have been leaving it on and racing with it, so I can better see how consistent I am.

How is it generated? Is the line dynamically computed depending on what set your car has? Or is it just static per car and was precomputed?
