It's bad enough that you're posting at all. Please don't assume that everyone else is on the same wavelength as you. It's a great disservice to the community...

Quote from CrAZySkyPimp :<parachute experience>

Why is that funny, exactly? Should every person who wants to be a parachute packer have previous experience? I see a bootstrapping issue there...

I thought the officials did a really poor job (again) on the weekend at Sydney. Even if you put aside the fact that Winterbottom didn't get a penalty for tapping Lowndes into the barrier (dismissed by McConville with a wishy-washy answer that goes against precedence and veers towards "We wanted to keep it entertaining"), the fact that he didn't get a mechanical black flag despite the right rear window being dangerously unsecured was a complete joke. Additionally, Will Davison didn't get a pit lane penalty for refuelling the car off the jacks in race 36, despite it being shown in replay on TV and the commentators specifically mentioning it.

Anyway, second time Lowndes has been knocked out of a title fight by contact from another car. You could argue that even without the contact with Winterbottom he wouldn't have won the championship, but it would have been nice to see a fair fight.

Quote from BlueFlame :12C is most definately faster than the 458 though I think.

Yes, it definitely is. However, outright laptimes don't really mean much for high performance road cars (despite what Top Gear might want you to believe). What would you rather drive: a car with predictable handling, great front-end precision and sublime power delivery or one with a poor front-end, unpredictable high speed handling (ready to spin up that inside wheel even at 100+mph just because of the diff design) and peaky power delivery? Ultimately we may get the chance to race them against each other in AC and most people will pick the 12C simply because it's faster and despite the shortfalls in comparison to the 458. However, given the choice of which to drive a few laps on my own I know which set of keys I'd be picking up.

I really wanted to enjoy driving the 12C (because I think the road car is generally an interesting concept that's been executed well), but even from the first few laps it was clear something is wrong. I hope it's a problem with the simulation (I remain unconvinced that at least one of the systems in the 12C is actually simulated in AC) that can be fixed in future updates.

Quote from JackDaMaster :12C is glorious. They seem to have got the electronic diff working well in game.

Have to disagree there. The 'open' diff feels really bad for me in high speed sections (e.g. the Beckets/Maggots complex at Silverstone or down the hill towards Aqua Minerale at Imola). Also the initial turn-in on the 12C feels so clumsy compared to the 458, which is much more precise. The gearchange times on the 12C (especially the downshift!) are very slow compared to the 458. I assume that's based on data McLaren have supplied the dev team with, though. The power delivery on the 12C also feels very peaky compared to the 458, especially out of slow corners. Yes, I appreciate that the 12C has twin turbos and the 458 is NA, but I'd be surprised if the real car was as brutal as this.

Driving the 12C and the 458 back to back it's difficult to find any category where the 12C is better...

Another possibly difficult one from me. I've got a small fragment of this song stuck in my head and I can't identify it. I think it might have been used on a film score, in the classical/modern classical genre. No idea of the original instrument. Here is a very short clip of me whistling the only fragment I know. As ever, TIA for any input.

Quote from Bmxtwins :so 2014 f1 cars are gonna be slower than GP2

Quote from Enrico Scalabroni :I would not be surprised if a GP2 car is as fast as a F1 (car)

The two statements are not equivalent. The truth of the matter is that no-one will know for certain how F1 and GP2 cars compare next season until... <drumroll please> ... next season! Sure, Scalabroni is in a position to speculate, but it's wrong to say with certainty that GP2 cars will be faster than F1 cars next season.

It must have been great driving a 458 on track. Where were you?

Quote from BlueFlame :Every race a 911 is in that it DOESN'T win it challenges for class victory and has done ever since it was put onto a race track.

...and that makes it the most successful car in motorsport how exactly? Also, you haven't defined whether you're counting all 911s together for this purpose.

Quote from BlueFlame :Forget single make series as clearly I'm not referring to that....

Given how poorly you stated your assertion it was impossible to know exactly what you were referring to...

Quote from BlueFlame :Sorry, I didn't specify - in motorsport.

Thanks, that's much better.

Seriously though...how exactly is it the most successful car? Is that if you include all iterations and you count all race wins equally? Wow, 911s have won every single race in the Porsche Supercup!

Quote from BlueFlame :Every car has 'flaws' but no single model of car is as successful as the 911. FACT

If you're going to spout nonsense at least try to qualify what you're saying. How, exactly, is the 911 the most successful car in history?

Quote from Boris Lozac :In Huayra the cockpit would have probably separated from the rest of the car, don't know how that exactly works in real life, and does any other car have that?

This was what happened in Stefan Eriksson's Enzo crash in 2006. The carbon tub/chassis split from the engine during a crash that occurred at anywhere between 125 and 170mph, depending on various accounts. You can see a few pictures of the aftermath of the crash here. It split because of the way the engine is mounted to the carbon tub/chassis (in a similar fashion to how engines have been mounted to chassis in F1 cars since the Lotus 49). You can also see the principle in action here, as Watson hits the barriers hard at the 1981 Italian GP.

This sounds like an issue about the display of the value of RaceLaps for timed races.

Source:

Quote from InSim.txt :// RaceLaps (rl) : (various meanings depending on range)

// 0 : practice
// 1-99 : number of laps... laps = rl
// 100-190 : 100 to 1000 laps... laps = (rl - 100) * 10 + 100
// 191-238 : 1 to 48 hours... hours = rl - 190

191 'laps' = 1 Hour

Quote from Kristi :I don't think that the Abarth on Vallelunga is an exploitable laptime, on instance. I would love to see those 1.31s there though. I mean, on youtube they didn't really look that fast, I'm still half a second off that though.

'Cheating' in a different way then

Let's just say unofficial modding arrived a little early.

I wouldn't worry about times which seem impossibly fast. It's pretty easy to 'cheat' in at least a couple of different ways with the Early Access.

No. You're attempting to cram as many false generalisations into a block of text and ColeusRattus is patiently trying to point out exactly where you're going wrong.

BlueFlame: for a start, you should look into the US prison population for the proportion of non-whites in comparison to the total US population. How do you explain the massive disparity?

Quote from tikshow :Can someone tell me why there is basically 0 difference with the 458 on semi-slick vs street tires?

Street tyres are also much easier to overheat than the semi-slicks. If you haven't already got it, take a look at Danny Giusa's excellent tyre temperature app.

Quote from WhizzkidOne :Has anyone tried this with a ATI 4850 or similar?

Don't want to get it just yet if it won't run on my system.

Thanks

I have a 4890 in my system (more specs below) and the performance isn't great, but it's certainly playable. At 1080p I've been getting between 70 and 110 or so fps with V-Sync turned off. That's with basically all the eye candy (AA/AF etc) turned off or at the lowest settings. My best advice would be to try out the Tech Preview, if you can (you need an existing Netkar Pro license). If you can run the Tech Preview decently well the Early Access should be better. Of course, neither of these have other cars on track, so you can expect when they get added (either in the form of multiplayer or AI) you'll take a performance hit from those.

CPU: Intel Q9450 @ 2.66GHz
Motherboard: ASUS P5K-E
GPU: XFX ATi 4890
RAM: 4GB GSkill DDR2
SSD: 128GB Samsung 830
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

It could possibly be the left-hander that you can see around 1:39 in this video and around 1:01 in this video. Thanks to troy for the second video link

The raised section of the kerb inside on the apex of the turn and what would be in the background from the placement of the camera in the shot from AC both look about right to me. Still just speculation though, until confirmation comes.
