nVidia released drivers that support 5040x1050 and DX10 today. 191.07 are out, and confirmed to work by many triplehead users. I guess it's nVidias temporary Eyefinity killer.
So go get it!

Quote from Intrepid : ...

I guess from a PR point of view its very nice if your mimicking a real track. no doubt phrases like 'It has the same little bump at x point on the track' impresses investors and customers.

And Tristan said it well on the importance of scanned tracks:
Quote :A bump slightly too large, in slightly the wrong place could drastically change a corner or sequence of corners away from realistic.

Quote from tristancliffe :
I sincerely doubt the ability for laser scanning to pick up bumps accurately. For starters the resolution of the scanning won't be that high.

Do alot of laser scanning, do you?

FWIW you can get sub-millimeter precision, and the resolution to match, given time and money.

Of course you need the photos for texture work, but the geometry can be derived entirely from the point cloud if you want. usually there is a bit of manual tweaking to get optimized meshes, but the raw data is pretty damn accurate...

Yeah, I have the Toyo on order and will hopefully get to test them next weekend.

They won't see any road use, except maybe the drive to and from the track (25km). I ordered the Toyos, we'll see how it goes.

Yes, I'd think they would be better. I was more curious about characteristics on the limit and over. How much more grip, and how they let go and regain traction.

Not to me!

Ok, I'll keep my experiences away from this forum, for your benefit.
I'll be datalogging as well, so both g-forces and laptimes can be compared, as well as any changes in choice of lines.

Just got a great deal on the r888, so I just couldn't say no.

Going to track 27th, and weather permitting I'll give an impression on semi-slick versus road tyre performance then.

it's a Mazda 323GTR, about 1100kg, AWD with LSD center and rear. Mostly tight slow tracks, but some higher speed. Running around 250whp in the real world.
Toyo r888 vs Yokohama A048?

Considering these for trackday use.

They will see many heat cycles, thus I tend toward the r888, but the more forgiving handling of the Yokohama is tempting. But forgiving handling won't do me any good if the tire is rock hard after a day's use.

Mainly 5-15minute stints with 30-60 minute breaks per day. And as many days as I can get throguhout the season, usually 6-10.

How much use can I expect to get from a set?

Napalm: It works in other games adn desktop, so it should work with LFS too. Could be a DX8 issue though, I don't have any other DX8 games installed at the moment.

I tried 16 bit modes, and I tried 16 bit z-buffer. Both fail.

Haven't got around to reinstalling rF yet, will do that as soon as I can.

They accept 57hz no problem, and the res is listed as 57Hz in the LFS settings. Like I said, most games work fine in this res. I am not sure I have any DX8 games that use that resolution, though, most are DX9.

I will try to force rFactor to DX8 mode and see if that works with AA.

It's also strange that the 4:3 (or rather 12:3) resolutions work with AA. Obviously the image is distorted beyond recognition, but they ARE triple screen, and the DO work. The 4380x900 use the same bandwidth (actually slightly less) as 3840x1024, only the aspect is different.

Good point, but what about downshifting under braking? If you're locking up or on the verge of locking up under heavy braking the sudden release of the center diff can be enough to break traction and lock up a wheel...

This wil definetly upset the awd cars when shifting mid corner. You are happily loading up the center diff, then flit into neutral and it's fully open, then fully loaded a short while after. Good catch.

Ok, some more testing...

The widescreen resolutions fail, the 4:3 resolutions are good even with AA.

I can run 2400x600, 3072x768 and 3840x1024 with 8x AA.
The widescreen res of 4320x900 and 5040x1050 fail.

Tried loading LFS and with the don't load track thing enabledwent direct to settings. Still failed as soon as LFS change the res.

The thing is, the new res get set, THEN fail, even if it is virtually instant. My screens switch to the new mode, then LFS fail and they switch back to the desktop res.

It works with any resolution as long as I don't apply any AA. AA can be applied to single screen resolutions, though. But any AA at any widescreen res and I get the 'LFS.exe has stopped working...' message.

I use a 8800GTX with the 182.50 nVidia drivers. Those are the only ones that work with Win7 and triplehead for me. All other drivers are up to date.

Edit:

I'll check the app for the crashlog. I'm not sure what patch version I'm at, it's one of the ones after Patch Z, I'll check it in a little while. Gotta get the kids to bed first.. You know how THAT goes...

Edit2: Running patch Z9, but I don't think there's ben any graphics changes since Z?

Hi!

Recently got my TH2G set up, and wanted to try it in LFS.

It works in other games, iRacing and FSX, along with ARMA2.

As soon as LFS tries to set the 5040x1050@57 the screens go blank and I get dumped to desktop, no errors.
I have no idea how to give any better info, please tell me ho I can help nail this.

My setup:
Q9550@ stock clock
Asus P5QL-Pro
Corsair HyperX PC6400 RAM, 4Gb
XFX 8800GTX, nvidia 182.50 drivers (latest that work properly with TH2G)
Win7 build 7100, all updates
Latest drivers for chipset and devices, latest firmware for TH2G.

My car has an open front diff and LSD center and rear, and it will turn in when off the throttle mid corner. When entering a corner off the throttle it will just plough straight.

Yeah, it's a bummer we don't get to play with our new toy. But at least we got to download it, and try it a few laps! 8)
