I'm having even more thoughts about what car to get, gladly I have a good few months before i'll be getting one, but still, confussled much..
Liking Leons too, more so on the outside, but the interior seems a bit dull, so it's still an A3 from a VAG point of view, since that came out first in the model i'm looking at (A3 was 03, MK5 was 04 and leon was 06) and then BOOM, a shocker.
New civics? 2.2diesle, 140bhp with better mpg figures than the VW 2.0tdi... interiors are mega cool, though no idea about their build quality and yea, the car generally looks cool as hell to sit in.
The exterior has grown on me over the years too, opinions? Maybe i'm just going through a faze, but since they seem a little cheaper in comparison to the VAG's it might well be a good car to go for.
For sure, delivery date is tomorrow, refurbish wheels tomorrow, hopefully they come before I leave.
As for the MK5, I really like the GT TDI from 07 on, as it actually has a nicer kit, but from any Mk5 before that they just look so plain and i'm not impressed by the kit level if i'm honest.
The A3's seem a bit more refined for about 05, since they came out a year earlier and the kit level is similar too, seen a nice Red one with DSG gearbox and lots of nice toys like cruise control and dual climate control and all that tosh for 5k.
Very fair price since a similar MK5 is a bit more and they don't look as good.
Will just see what is close by when I come to buying one though, will be a few months away yet..
The car won't be getting any special treatment for 2 reasons, 1. I don't have any money and 2. When I start my new job which is hopefully soon i'll be selling it anyway.
As for swapping a A3 sport for a MK4, thats mental, though you can still find some 03ish MK4's up for sale at around 8k which aren't even R32's or anniversary's.... Still, around 5k for a decent A3 or MK5 GT TDI seems good enough for me...
Insurance, I guess your at the stage where the gap from 105bhp to 140 is huge? Mine was around 1k this year, renewal on this car is just over £600, quoted £800 for a GT TDI 140.
Even though we're raping this thread, we're probably talking less smack than half the girlfriend pictures anyhow..
Good, been giving her some treatment lately, new discs and pads when they arrive too, the only thing I have to do now is sell it and buy a A3 TDI 140...
As for Becky, I'd love for anyone to find me one of my posts which says Becky is a man, just one post, never mind a "relentless" amount of posts. IIRC if it was even hinted at that back then the ban hammer would be lurking..
She claims she wants to come on here and have a laugh etc, then at the hint of 1 bit of humour, she turns into terminator, talk about flying off the handle.
Was more the sound I was on about, that little sound of a bomb dropping is a little hint.
I was sitting just now, thinking wtf are you on about, then just thought that's how people treat Scots nowadays. Then I remembered, epic video. Was a couple of years ago, still with her yet.
Maybe I'm reading this wrong but Bullflame said 13.6 down the 1/4 from a modified golf (150 to 240bhp) is piss poor and claimed a standard PD150 could do it in the same time.
To which pretty much every calls bullshit to, 240bhp going under 14 secs is impressive, but 150bhp getting anywhere close, lolz.
All the figures you've came up with are absolute tosh, under 14 is decent, sure it's nothing compared to a damn drag car, but try driving them around a corner. You should maybe go look at some 1/4mile times on facebook, like the cupra I posted earlier, if that doesn't look fast to you then fine, you obviously come from somewhere which is just a big downhill everywhere you go!
Looks nice Jamie, nice and clean. I might give it a go in mine tomorrow, but turbo lag? I barely get any unless i'm under 1300rpm! I'll try a 6th gear pull from 30-70 too. It shouldn't be too bad for a standard car, just a decat and EGR delete.
It did have sticky veins but it's been cleaned out a few times and hasn't been back in a while, used to come after 15 mins of driving on the motorway, slight throttle increase to overtake or keep speed up a hill would set it into limp mode.
No more thankfully, put some Dr Magic oven cleaner in through the EGR-Turbo pipe and it sorted it out. Not bad for 99p.
The 3rd gear thing, tried the whole Italian tuning thing as well, done 40 miles pretty much ragging it to try and blow the shit out to no avail.
Cleaning the turbo like I did just helps the problem but it will no doubt come back in a few months, i've seen a guy who done a innotec turbo clean (similar to what I done but from the outlet pipe) and it only cleaned a tiny part of the turbo, doesn't quite get into the important places. Rtech have done a how to on dismantling the turbo and how to clean it properly, though they only take £100 to do it, which would be my choice!
