"The Town"

Highly recommended, very good film, well worth the watch.

Saw the Mechanic also, typical film but what else do you expect.

And, forgive me but, "Faster" with the Rock in it, was actually quite good, much better than expected.

Dare I say it, but the new F&F film actually looks quite good, god knows i'll regret saying that though.

Quote from Klutch :Wasn't debating the fact that his figures are bullshit, was more just pointing out that different chassis/drivetype/overall weight/weightdistrubution/suspension type/gear ratios/diff ratios/torque/powercurve all play a part in a quarter mile time, outright HP means ****all.

Sure it does, but that would mean it wasn't standard....which is bullflames argument, that a 150bhp bog standard diesel can do the 1/4 mile in under 14 seconds.

Jamie....What!? you buy a turd corsa and the first thing you do is put a pic up here? Then you buy a decent MK5 golf and you haven't took a pic? Come on son!

In saying that, I bet the difference in pulls like that changed dramatically, i'm losing pressure somewhere, or a dodgy Maf/N75 valve, when i'm on the boost it sometimes has a mind of it's own. Still pulls well though, not that i'm saying my car is fast but it is quick.... :P

Like what, one of NASA's rocket ships helping? That's really the only thing that will make a stock 150bhp car weighting around 1.4 tonne do the 1/4 mile in under 14 seconds.

Look at the scooby I posted for example, that car looks rapid, yet it "only" does it in 12.5 seconds. It's doing 0-60 is around 4 seconds, yet a FWD diesel with half the power and a 0-60 time of 9 seconds will only be 1 second slower?

It's massively lol worthy, sure, some drivers are better at getting cars off the line, keeping the boost up, shifting at the proper times, but these alone are only worth tenths.

Stock GT TDI can do 1/4 in under 14 seconds?!?!?!?!?!? HAHA

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5Kws7h3OpY

Does that not look slightly fast? You never commented on my Leon TDI 1/4 from earlier either, 13.6 and that looked fast, he shifted quickly and got the power down very well.

The bugatti veyron does 1/4 mile in under 10 seconds, I know it means nothing, it's not meant for the 1/4 mile.

But a car with 150bhp (assuming it's the PD150 your on about) is never going to get a car down the 1/4 mile in the same amount of time as someone with 100bhp more.

I don't know where you get your figures from, but they're crap.

A 90bhp TDI? What model, a go kart?

The car barely hits 60 in 14 seconds, i'm not believing it does it in 16 seconds, not standard anyway.

Klutch, just a daft automatic and he was "running in" his turbo, he wore a baseball cap....

Any pics of it Jamie? I'm after either a 2.0 TDI 140 A3 of Mk5 next, I like the A3's a bit more but my GF likes the golf. Also seem to get more stuff as standard with the A3.

Anyway, as for the clutch, my flywheel is fecked, my idle is like a bag of spanners, but it's smooth as hell when driving and the clutch never slips. It's also quite rough when reversing (like you described) new clutch is on the cards if i'm keeping it for another 6 months.

Nathan, best way to know what flywheel they have is that they started with the PD engines (2000's+)

Blueflame, i've no idea what dragstrip you go to, or how much of a downhill it's on, but the TDI in the video I posted has about 300bhp and that's doing 13.6. How on earth is someone doing 11 seconds with 270bhp? I call bullshit.

Quote from Nathan_French_14 :Nothing to do with a "lifetime" of experience. It's just that from what I have seen, VAG TDi's running mild remaps do not need an uprated clutch.

Mild? I would hardly say a 35% increase in power/torque is mild...

Unless your friend actually got a 'mild' remap to preserve the life of other components.

Like I said above, if your kind to the car in the lower gears and rev range then you'll get away with a standard clutch and a harsh remap, but if you want to use the car properly then...yea.

I don't get it, you say 13.6 is poor by any standard yet you then say that the car isn't standard?

It's got 240bhp, which isn't a great deal, but it's 90bhp more than when standard, not a great deal?

You obviously don't understand what the car is, which isn't there to be zomg amazing 4 sec 1/4 mile, because what use is that when practising things that you will use on customers cars?

This car is just a limit to what can be done, sure it has a few mods but considering just how standard it is, it's crazy to see it under 14 seconds. Which is what customers want, how big do you think their customer base is with cars they use for the road and for fun? Then how many customers do you reckon they have trying to push sub 10 seconds on the 1/4 mile.....

I've been in a car doing 15.5 seconds on the 1/4 mile, then a car doing very low 14s, low 14s was a 2.5T soarer with over 300bhp, to think of a 1.8 golf beating that being "piss poor".

Lol worthy.

Piss poor from a almost standard Mk4 golf with 150k miles, your kidding me?

This car is just for them to test their maps on and as a bit of a toy.

On the day it beat a LCR leon which is pretty highly tuned, about 300bhp, seems decent to me.

They're helping a guy tune a 1.8T 4motion, it's at around 350bhp just now.

Anyway, if 13.8 is slow, then what is this cupra?

I tried to have a look in this thread for your car Jamie but what VW have you got?

Nathan and his lifetime of experience in remapped cars coming out here, trust him, he's not driving your car, feeling what you feel, but you still should trust him.

From all the remapped VW TDI's i've seen on standard clutches they all experienced some sort of slip and eventually needed a new clutch.

If you don't rag it around at the peak torque range then sure, normal clutch is fine, but generally after 10k miles the clutch is replaced by a Sachs clutch.

As for Rtech, i'm jealous you live close enough for them to do work on your car, those guys do some awesome shit, especially on that quattro GTI.

Or their very own "toy" which has about 150k miles on it and does the 1/4 mile in 13.8...

Quote from sam93 :2 year probation period is a stupid law. Tot up 6 points in 2 years, license revoked. Crashes etc. It's stupid.

As I've now been banned, I'm off of it apparently and can now have 12 points. But for some reason my 3 points didn't come off of my license which is stupid. Usually do

What's stupid about it, so many idiots go out just after passing their test and cause accidents as it is, imagine what it would be like if they could get 12 points in stead of 6?
Bawbag

Well not really, it gives new drivers (well, you'd think it would anyway) a reason not to fly about on the limit, as one accident will see your licence revoked.

Which isn't a harsh rule to be honest, if a new driver crashes out in the back roads on his own then your not gunna put it down to bad conditions or unforseen circumstances are you?

It's not a new rule, it's been in place since the 2 years probation rule, which has been in place since before I passed 4 years ago.

If your in any accident on your own within the first 2 years and police find out you get a ban, though simple 28 day ban is a good result.

Though, knowing "loads" of people who have been banned is just lol worthy, that's like a guy being jailed for murder and shrugging it off because he knows plenty of murderers.

My car hasn't changed much.

Quote from pb32000 :But the Golf probably cost 4 times as much as the 106 Jamie, not everyone can afford to spend £1000s on their first car.

Anyway I would definitely start off in a cheap car, then it doesn't matter so much if/when you crash it (assuming its just into a ditch and not into somebody else).

Yea, a decent MK5 TDI will set you back about 5k, i'm wanting to upgrade my MK4 GTTDI to a MK5 but hell, these stupid VW's hold their money....Suppose it will help when selling mine.

As for the insurance, apparently mens will drop by 10% and womens will increase by 25%, dumb thiing to introduce because they will just find other ways to pull our panties down each year.

ADAC 1000km Classic Nordschleife BMW 325i, one lap

I like the zip-tied voltmeter on the dash

Good video but I would much rather of been watching from the yellow mercedes, seems although he was pushing a lot harder in the turns to make up for his lack of power.

Btw, what kind of car is that on the left at the start (The big muscle car looking like thing) Because it absolutely whores them all on the straights haha!

Yea it was the roof Vain, that car got absolutely thrashed by John and he didn't manage to kill it, somehow!

That video was from his 2nd year doing the rally (First year wasn't so good, the car broke quite early on) and this was his attempt with his own car. He was only 18 at the time. He finished 13th out of 160 cars and the top 30 was full of WRC cars, machines with triple the BHP.

He went on to win the 205 cup, then got a drive in a super 1600 fiesta, I think he finished 2nd in the series last year and will go on to drive it again in the next season. He was also in a competition for a drive in the ST fiesta but finished 3rd, the guy who won it was a young up and coming Finn.

So yea, if you watch any of the rallying programes on TV he usually gets some coverage, in fact the ones I watched they had a clip of him for the intro.

I can't say I was too impressed with that polo, this is how a small car should be driven ^^.

205 GTI 1.6, standard engine and quite a lot of other parts standard too (So it could enter the 205 cup)

The above video was his first run through, this video was part of the second run through.....

Brings it all back for me....

Those were the days when it was fun to come online and practice for the OLFS, when a round in the OLFS series meant that the WR would get smashed EVERY time, when racing at the top was so tight you could have the full field covered by 3 tenths in quali.

Nowadays, ugh, LFS has stuttered to a halt, I think MoE is in it's 3rd season on this patch, hell I remember at the start of last season they left 1 slot open for Rockingham..HAH!

LFS was fantastic, LFS had lots going for it, in the amount of time we've waited for a scummy VW I would have expected S3 to be released, or at least in the works.

Come on, not that I even care what your girlfriend looks like nor do I really care about seeing her, but were on the bloody INTERNET, regardless of the hotness of your GF I highly doubt she's going to be better to have a chug over than the MILLIONS of porn sites over the internet.

This thread is epic though, talking about diets n stuff, in a way it's related, if your diet comes off then you might end up getting a GF to post here?

Haha, ok so it turns out that was utter BS about the police giving out 3 points, though it is a good idea.

I did love driving last year when I jumped straight onto the motorway with 2inches of powder like snow on the bonnet and roof, as soon as I went over 70 it was like it was snowing all over again.

To be fair 'mate' those cars have bonnets, bumpers and wings so they actually qualify as a "car".

I like your pictures though, scrapheap challenge is one of my favourite programmes anyway, i've just never seen them build a missile yet..

My snow missile, had it out last night and it was completely free of snow (Because the police are handing out 3 points and £60 fines to people with snow on their roof...) and this is how it looks today.

I love this thread btw, but why are we seeing pictures of scrap cars?
