If your going for a corsa B then your just aswell going for a 1 litre, most of the 1.2's are only 8v, the 1litre has 12v meaning they are actually a little faster.

They are both group 2, however the 1.0 get's 50mpg when the 1.2 only does 41, it would actually be quite pointless to go for a 1.2 when the 1litre beats it everywhere.

If you want something that's going to have a bit of go about it then it's gunna be a 1.2sxi corsa, or a 1.4i VSX saxo. Both doing 0-60 in around 11 seconds.

The saxo is group 5, the corsa group 3, but if you want the cheapest to insure then your better getting a 1.0 12v corsa, it's a group 1, 0-60 in 16 seconds. My first car was a 1.2 corsa trip, 0-60 in 16.8 seconds and that felt nippy enough, had it on some long journeys and it overtook cars ok, was easier with a run up though.

Motorsport in Switzerland is non existant is it not? That's why Michael Shumacher lives there, because when he was an F1 driver, it meant he didn't have a job title over there, so he could sign on for benefits and his house tax and stuff would be paid for him.

The thing with those cars is their popularity with young drivers, so the insurance still wont be cheap enough for you not to grumble at it, beggers can't be choosers though.

As for FC over FPTF there really isn't that much of a differnce, when I was looking for my first insurance the differnce was no more than £100.

On elephant it was actually cheaper going FC, you really should be going FC anyway, you do a lot of backroad driving, which no doubt are going to have farm animals and deer running accross them at night, and they sure as hell aint gunna be able to give you their details after you send them 30 feet through the air.

Backroads also suck for other idiot drivers parking, only yesterday I went over a hill on my local backroad to Falkirk and there was a van and 3 cars pakred on the road with car coming the other way, only doing 60mph and I couldn't stop before the van, so had to slip by the van and between the parked cars, not fun.

"dpalonso" ie Martin Kronke uses clutch and H-shifter all the time, he's hellova fast in LFS, but more so he still holds records in rFactor using this setup...When he uses the padels etc he is slow because he's not used to it.

Well, if you find a rover which has a replaced head gasket then your in luck tbh, it's performance pisses over the 316 anyway..

I'm close to taking a green 214 16v, only because moneys so tight atm, but still, i'm at the stage where I don't care what I drive, i'd rather have money in my pocket.

Quote from dougie-lampkin :That's going to make matters far worse when he realises that petrols are far better and tries taking off at the lights

If you just want a shedload of power, get a Hilux. Ours can physically throw you into the seat if you put the boot down in 3rd from as low as 1000RPM, even going uphill. It could take off in 4th if you wanted to, with just a touch of throttle. They're RWD for some dorito action, AWD for off-road action and there's plenty of rear space for all of your audio equipment and chinese deliveries. They're also dirt cheap to tax and insure as a commercial, and there's no rear windows to have to board up for that either. We have ours registered as a farm vehicle (same as commercial as far as I know) and it's ~€100 per person on the insurance, regardless of license/age, and something like €60 to tax it for the year.

Plus, they'll murder any of your Audis in a straight line race. Ours is 3L turbo'd and intercooled, putting out about 140BHP with 350lb/ft of torque according to the manual If you drive it sensibly (you won't though, you'll find yourself redlining to squeeze out every drop of torque :shy you can get up to 30mpg according to some people too

Something to think about anyway, only problem is price. Ours is '06, no idea about the earlier mark

...

Older ones are just as awesome! A friend of mine borrowed one to go onto Mull last year from his grandad, took some mad videos of him drifting it around the single track roads, they rolled another one too, pulled into what seemed like a massive grass verge to let a car go past and it just sank into the ground and topped over, was totally fine though.

Quote from dougie-lampkin :Why are you even thinking about getting a 1.9 TDI Audi as your first car? How do you think you're even going to afford it, with tax, insurance, petrol, tyres and the regular panel-beating you'll need? If you did want something with a bit of poke, get a nice clean (on second thoughts, good luck with that :razz 1.3 turbo Glanza. They're a complete ricemobile, but at least you can learn to drive in it. A big turbo diesel is not at all suitable to learn to drive for the first time. Believe me, I learnt 6 months ago with a 1 litre (68 BHP, quick for a 1 litre though ) and it was perfect.

There's a reason why only rich, spoiled kids get to drive big cars. Because they cost so much. Remeber, only cocks drive Audis anyway

Diesles are actually easier to learn in, they can practicly go in first gear without any throttle.... My big brother learned in a very old audi 80 diesle with over 200k on the clock, was the easiest thing in the world to drive.

316 or 1.9tdi A3, is that a test? A3 all the way, though the prices of them start rather high, if your looking for something like an A3, look at seat leons or ibizas, practicly the same car but cheaper.

In XFG I wouldn't really think it's going to help much because it's front wheel drive, though it might help your corner entry depending on the type of setup you have.

Heel toe is more helpfull in RWD cars that will break loose under braking.

By all means learn it and see what it does to your driving, because it's a good habbit to have and will mean learning the higher powered cars (Like XRT, LX6 etc) will be much easier and faster to get comfortable.

Well 700 miles using 57 litres of fuel (Generally the red light will have about a gallon or so in the tank) gives 55mpg, which is good.

On parkers at 110bhp 95-02 A4 says 53mpg, and this is usually a general mpg, not long journey stuff, so i'd say your getting what you should be out of it.

I had 47mpg on my last £20 of fuel, because it was all long journey stuff, but generally it's about 38, which is good considering I do lots of short journeys. (Parkers has mine at 41)

Quote from sam93 :A VAGcom hasn't touched it for tuning. It's a tuning box that plugs into the ECU and stays plugged in, if you unplug it, the car is no longer chipped.

It is very good on fuel, like most Audi's are including the A8 W12 which Jeremy Clarkson I think got something like 800miles out of the tank.

I know what it is, but what i'm saying is, remapping the car can be done by plugging the VAGcom in and changing values, perhaps someone without a clue has tried this. I'm not really sure but i'm guessing that you either get the car re-mapped, or plug in an ECU chip, as they both achieve the same thing from the engine?

If not, ignore this.

This thread rocks.

My 1.4 produces 75bhp, which is about average for a 16v 1.4, but you get all these other cars like MG/rover 1.4 16v's producing 100bhp, which is why they're allways in garages having new head gaskets fitted.

If you do happen to find a way to push 20bhp out of your 1.6, (Which is going to have what, 100k miles on it?) then your gunna encounted the same problems.

Cars are made as fast/slow as they are for a reason, that reason isn't to give 17 year old wet dreams before they pass their test.

As for the audi getting better MPG, work out how many miles to the gallon it gets in comparison to what it should get (Check parkers) because you might find someone without a clue has allready tried to remap it with a VAGcom and done it wrong.

I've been in a few takeaway cars and they smell disgusting, a few of my mates used to do it aswell and they eventually stopped because of how bad it made their car smell.

Yea, I don't mean for all cars, I just mean in general some people have had problems with them (rough idleing etc) and yea, remaps i've saw are about 250-350, which if you've got a gttdi 150 then it's gunna be worth it.

All this talk about cars, turbos and re maps has got me annoyed that I went back to college, coz now i'm stuck with the 75bhp turdwagon.

Yea, FZ5, pretty much every car in LFS can brake at the 100m mark for your average corner....not the FZ5 though, more like 150, or 200....

Party down to its massive speed too though, on aston historic reversed im sure it was within 5mph of the fxr on the main straight....

From what I can see the tuning box has the same effect as the remap, but less stable.

Regardless, I wouldn't waste any of your money doing the things you would like to, especcially if your gunna be delivering takeaway food, the cars gunna smell like a busted onion.

Re mapping non turbo cars is pretty pointless when you consider how much it costs to remap your car to how much gain you get from it.

Remapping a 1.4 16v golf adds about 4bhp. Full stainless steel exhaust system and induction kit (this guy spent about 500 euros on this) and it added 6bhp. So yea, I doubt the 1.6 is gunna be much differnt.

Who cares what it sends his premium, spending all that money on a car worth under 1500 quid is like buying a chocolate teapot.

Oh yea, forgot to add, remapping a 1.9tdi golf adds about 40bhp, so it's no wonder that the audi feels a lot faster, because it really only benefits turbo cars.

Quote from sam93 :So you think because a car is cheap and old it's going to be unreliable, what a load of bull lol. This is not always true.

A lot of E36 316i's are £500-£1,500.

I don't have the money for the insurance, will pay monthly so each months wages, most of it will go on insurance money. My 2008 Aprilia RS50 aka chicken chaser will buy my car as I am going to spend at the most, £1,000 on a car as that's what I should get for my RS.

Sure it's not allways true, but if your buying such a car cheap then you have to wonder why it's so cheap, older cars are allwasy going to give you some bother.

As for paying your insurance monthly, bad idea, a quote of say £1700 will come out at 2k or more, when I got my quote of £700 from elephant if I payed it monthly it ended up at £1150.

I saw some advice on here, take out the lowest interest credit card you can find, pay the insurance with that and then pay money to that every month, it will end up far cheaper than doing it through the insurance company. There's also those cashback websites, who refund you money if you buy your insurance through them. (Up to £100 iirc) Though i've never used them before, lots of people have and it seems to work.

I still think a 316 under a grand is just gunna cost you money with parts etc, but I hope i'm wrong.

Polos are good as long as it isn't the 1.4 16v because they are group 10 insurance which is facking loads for such a small car.

A 316 for under a grand is probarly gunna cost you more on the repair bill, as is any "decent" car you can get cheap.

You obviously have the money for the insurance so why don't you go for say a small 2k car and half the insurance of some BMW? Atleast with a newer car your not gunna worry about reliability, or the expensive road tax, or the tyres, or the fuel.....well, not as much anyhow.
