Quote from Monkay :A proper Windows? Can it be?

I'm running vista Ult. x64 right now with 4 gigs of gaming ram, 3.0 duo core and a ATI 4870, sitting on a ASUS P5Q Deluxe and it runs smooth, but is that what it takes? That's ridiculous...:dunce:

I can't comment on Vista, but 7 is on par with XP, if not better - so upgrading from Vista should blow your mind...

May I remind everyone on the term "return on invest"? "One or two hired people" need to be payed, from normal wage to various taxes and health care fees... That amounts to quite a sum - are you willing to pay for that? For a marginally faster development pace? The only way to get noticeably faster is to go a lot bigger - and then we are at iRacing money, with the exception that Scavier don't have generous donor who might even out potential losses...

Give it up guys, even if it were possible - which is very unlikely - the devs stated numerous times they won't change their ways, and you should accept that... After all, they didn't do that bad this last years, now did they?

Quote from JeffR :The grip doesn't have to be exagerated to compensate for the fact that you can't 'feel' the car, but a grip model that is more forgiving would help. It's still my opinion that some diversions from reality will result in a better sim oriented racing game, so I'm not a member of the harder is more realistic club.

Ey? It's pretty widely acknowledged (even by utter fanboys) that losing grip in LfS it too LINEAR, thus too forgiving... Why the hell would you deliberately make it worse?

I am, which means I know better things to do than to write senseless retarded babble... The OT-section here seems more like a special ed class every day...

I'd strongly suggest a temporary ban for people who open such spamthreads...

Quote from titanLS :Be sure to set your in-game FFB strength at between say, 9 and 15. I think the default is 12 and I've found it feels better even a little lower than that.

I've got it down to 6 or 7, it a compromise between still getting the bumps and just feeling the tyres - still nowhere near optimal... Dunno, maybe I just expect too much...

Quote from EliteAti :maybe we can go and practise in some series practise sessions, they work well

I'll be running pretty much all races today, it's the last week for Rookies before the promotions, and I want to get a licence... Can you go straight to C if you've got 4.0?

Quote from Crommi :Well, if you adjust FFB based on Solstice which has powersteering, other cars will rip your arms off

I tried it since Tuesday, and I have some major gripe with the FFB: the bumps are coming through the wheel so hard they're drowning out every bit of Self-Aligning Torque there is... Maybe my setup is wrong (105% overall, nothing else), but as it is I have the choice between getting my wrist broken by all the FFB spikes (it's really 0-100-0 % in a split-second) or not having any feel at all for what the tyres are doing...

Granted, my RL car has no downforce and it's not on wide slicks, but I've yet to feel a bump that is (so much) stronger than SAT...

Quote from pb32000 :Ahh number 1 is a good point, but with the XP SP3 CD there won't be a problem with the SATA drivers I think, as they sorted it out by SP2.

I had to do it, otherwise it wouldn't find the HDD...

Quote from speedfreak227 :Hello,

I recently had a virus take over my computer and decided to reinstall Windows because things were getting cluttered anyway.

I bought a Western Digital 640GB 7200 RPM Sata hard drive to be used in two partitions. 200 gig for operating system, the remaining 440 for storage.

I have an Asus A8V deluxe motherboard. I know it will support this new drive.

How do I install win XP to this drive that is brand new?

Thanks,

Steve

1. Get (or make) a SP3 install cd, normal XP either doesn't recognize HDDs over 250 gigs or can't make a partition over that size...
2. Make sure you set your SATA devices to be recognized as IDE in the BIOS or you will need a SATA driver for the XP-setup to find the HDD...

Quote from TAYLOR-MANIA : Yup. Seems feasible too...
How bad could you make an engine sound anyway ? There's a challenge...

Your question should be "how hard can it be to make a good one?", then take a look at the engine sound sharing thread... *shudders*

Quote from VoiD :So you posted in the testpatch-section..? I find your lack of intelligence disturbing. Same goes for severall other members/posts after the last cleaning...

Quote from Chrisuu01 :At the least point me in the right way then instead of only mocking on me please...

Yeah, shame on you VoiD, you know it's hard to find the dastardly hidden and uber-secret LfS Hosts Forum, especially when it disguises itself with "a section for discussing LFS-host related topics, such as administration tips and tricks / administration tools / technical problems" right under it...

Quote from richo :Payment=expectation of service or goods.

LFS is a business , a different type of business model but a business none the less.

A very lucky business that gets to work from home, doing something they enjoy and making a kick arse product that people are begging for more of.

Except that in this case, you have to consider that the business does the same as the private life: moving... From that view, it makes perfect sense "the tools are laid down"...

And since you seem to like the comparison to companies and their daily business, think about that: the business itself is and was running without pause - just the R&D department took some time off, which isn't exactly unheard of...

I'm sorry to add yet more unnecessary OT to this thread, but this I have to say...

Quote from XTREMEPOWER :Majod thats right we are a demo racer and we are probably a customer i hope u get it. unfortunately things are going so slow and it scares me as a potential customer .

Come on, don't come here with pseudo-intelligent talk about you being a potential customer... Even when you recognize you haven't shelled out anything and therefore are not a real customer, your arguments make it obvious that you never had the intention of becoming one, so spare us the excuses...

I dare you to prove me wrong though...

Quote from [DUcK] :Fair enough mate, but that wasn't really what I was getting at. I was just saying that if you haven't tried the setup you have on LFS, in real life in the exact same conditions etc etc, then how do we know if they are realistic or not? Who knows, you might get some oversteer on a FWD at the exit of a corner with a LFS setup in your Suzuki Swift or whatever

You'd have to find a material with infinite stiffness first... No chassis flex is one of the reasons the inner wheel can be lifted...
