Scawen, I'm not really technical, but rather practical, so here is a short list of things that are (seemingly to me) very simple (and seemingly practical) that could greatly improve LFS. They probably shouldn't be too high on the priority list, but these things I feel have decent support from more-or-less the whole community:
1. Larger Rallycross and Autocross on track "grids" - why limit the field to 24 or 16 when other tracks do have 32 grid slots. (I mentioned this already to support from you and a few other forum members)
2. Support for spectating/pitting/timing out and continuing race progress. How aggravating is it to do a 24 hour race and see the winner displayed as 24th 200 laps down because he timed out in the 12th hour of the race. Perhaps turning this feature on or off would also be a good idea. Many racers feel that endurance racing is LFS's biggest strong point, and this would only improve that. (PS: the driver who times out would be required to continue for race progress to be saved, so a teammate taking over would not be an option to escape time loss from a time out)
And, one NON-practical point:
Moving forward I feel that dynamic track surface conditions would be the best possible improvement to LFS's racing on all levels. Practice for 1 year and simply replicate on race day (because it will be exactly the same conditions) and you'll dominate. This means that those who haven't been around for over 6 or 7 years will always be behind the curve in speed and practice, and this drives away new comers with discouragement. If the track surface changed with traffic, temperature, weather, ect. it would constantly be a moving target, and this would encourage new comers to compete with the old "guard" of LFS, because they'd be more competitive in comparison.
I still feel that new content would be the best thing for the near future, but looking beyond that I think that from a marketing stand point dynamic track conditions is where the best improvement in profitability and quality of simulation is. Working on appearance is certainly important as well. I'd say go after the one that is easiest to complete, and I'm afraid the answer is appearance.
I think, if anything, this proves that the Cold War has simply been sleeping, and is far from dead. (But I don't think anybody ever thought differently for too long).
Geopolitics teaches us that Russia will continue to be an agressor (I have nothing against Russian people, no offence to those of you on here who are from Russia). At the same time, like all countries, the United States fears lossing its influence and wealth that it holds so dearly. The American people are more or less ignorent when it comes to finance (as an average), and we (as an average) go bonkers if our cost of living goes up (gasoline, oil, natural gas, electricity, clothing, ect.), but yet we moan if jobs are hard to find and moving over seas to where it is cheaper for companies to opperate. Our own people don't realize that these two tendencies are connected.
Also, I don't think many people realize that higher transportation prices would be one of the best things for our job market. Manufacturing jobs would not move half the world away to save money (because higher transportation costs would off set any manufacturing savings), and as Mexico's economy has improved thanks to NAFTA, so will all of Centeral & South America's if the FTAA goes through (very slowly, and Mexico's can still improve vastly from today's status)
Fact of the matter is that the American people are very greedy. They expect the government to be greedy for them, and it's only a small faction that cares about.. well.. much of anything moral until after the fact. History does show this. Vietnam, Afghanistan (2x), Iraq, Korea, ect. all shows that the US gets into wars for little reason that has little to do with the US other than economic reason.
WWII was the only time that we got involved with a war which we should have, and I personally think that was the United States' greatest moment in history. It's all been down hill from there even as we have esentially "lead the world" from that point.
I'm not at all a fan of Communisim; I'm not a big fan of Capitalism (it's just barely better than Communism), and I'm not real fond of socialism. Where does that leave me? I'm not sure.
Scary crash for Aleshin after getting trapped beneath Montoya's car in the rain. Tire stategy everywhere, and it would be interesting. Bourdais claimed his first win in years in Tornonto race #1.
Bourdais is my pick for race #2 as well. He didn't change over to rain tires, and I think that's the winning strategy.
Is there any way to move the grids of the rallycross tracks up to 32 capacity? (And Autocross). I'm asking this due to a few instances in which track capacity being increased at these places would have been useful. (NDR's AU1 LFSCART round comes to mind)
Not a major thing, but seems on the surface to be a very simple thing?
Thanks a lot for the update, and look forward to hearing more in the future
TK's strategist was betting on at least one more caution to help him save fuel, but it never came. TK would have been just fine running out front the whole race like he did, because even though he would have needed to pit before lap 176 the others still would have pitted on lap 194 or earlier. All teams would have made the race on 6 stops, and that would have been the end of it.
From TK's side it was a bad choice for their situation. Those guys in the back had the right idea though.
I was impressed by this race Ready for Iowa tonight after officiating some football (soccer) games
Great battle between Vettle and Alonso. Had Vettle not yielded to Alonso in that left right complex twice they both would have wound up in a heap rather than 5th and 6th. Disappointed in Alonso's driving with regard to that, but still a great battle. Vettle displayed great race craft in this battle.
I really enjoyed watching Pocono qualifying today. You could see the drivers really fighting the cars at speeds around 220-230 MPH. I also liked seeing 2 lap average being the time of record.
I do think we should look into preventing it if possible. Although I'd share a set-up (and did today before the Ky500 with a competitor) I understand those who do not like to. They put in the effort to make the set-up and have an advantage. Taking that advantage from them discourages working to obtain it.
I think the best solution to it in truth is dynamic track conditions (rubber, marbles, weather, track temperature, ect.) A "better" set-up will only be better in ideal conditions. Ideal conditions are constant in today's LFS. Beyond this it would make LFS more of a challenge and every lap unlike the one before it. This leads to more people racing more often, larger league races and events, (the snowball keeps rolling from there)
Edit: Great performance from the top two, and nice to see Isaac do an oval race.
Wow, I needed a lot more practice Sorry to #7 for the contact in the opening laps. I felt really bad about doing that. I miscalculated the space behind me and made contact trying to get the slip-stream from the car in front.
Then, I didn't know how to get rid of speed on a run into turn 3 while in the top 5 (between pit cycles) and ruined the race for a couple guys. Experience in a pack for me would have prevented this, but I hadn't drafted with more than 2 other guys at a time in FO8 for years until today's race.
Then, the long green flag run.. About a quarter of the way into it was was given (as deserved) a Stop-and-Go penalty for the aforementioned incident. I served it and found myself almost almost two laps down. Soon afterwards I was 2 laps down, but I had more fuel than most people, so I set-out to stay 1 lap down after the leaders ran into trouble. When the caution finally came out I only had 7% fuel remaining, but I was on the lead lap. If I simply followed you rather than drafting by, I was trying to save fuel, and the sum of my fuel saving actually did allow me to finish on the lead lap.
When we went back to green I thought between the 67, 36, and I we were going to take out lap cars as we tried to cut through them. Somehow, we didn't and a caution came out and allowed us to all group at the front of the field.
On the second to last restart I got a good start, but Majoor and Kapal were too fast on the jump. Eventually, 67, 37, and I caught Isaac. We had trouble getting back into any kind of formation, and I quite honestly was trying to leave at least one of my competitors behind in that group so we could get back into formation. The second to last caution was simply because I tried to get between the 37 and 36 exiting turn #1 after I saw the 37's mistake. I miscalculated it's severity and spun myself, destroying my car in the process. I was able to get to pit lane and remain on the lead lap thanks to the caution, but I should have started at the tail of the field to void any advantage I received by my own mistake.
Truly, I made a joke of myself in today's race, and I shouldn't have the 5th place result to show for it. All I had was pace, but skill, it wasn't there.
Sorry to everybody in today's race and the administration. You deserved better from me.
Would anybody (preferably somebody starting near me) like to practice drafting about an hour before the start of the race? This is my first Kyoto 500 and I'd like to perfect my set-up for drafting (and my drafting lines). I don't want to be the terrible drafting partner that holds all of my partners up because my gear ratios aren't correct or I'm down on experience.
Both sessions I participated in were basically just me due to the time difference
Great game between Portugal and USA. Ronaldo didn't seem in shape, but the US let their guard down just in the final seconds and squandered a great win away.
Advance into the elimination rounds still looks promising for the US, and it looks a little futile for Portugal. Ghana still has a slightly better shot, but their destiny is not in their hands. A Portugal - Ghana tie makes the US - Germany match for seeding only in the elimination round (unless Germany routs the US, which it could), but a Ghana win makes it all the more important as it could be for the US's survival. Germany only needs to not lose by a large margin (or not see Ghana win by a large margin) to advance.
The Ghana and Portugal match should be a quality one. US will likely fall to Germany, but it shouldn't be a blow-out.
Than again, nothing has been predictable about this World Cup
Really, all of these graphical things are cool, but I think the majority would prefer physics and new content first. Once that is all out of the system new graphics would be a huge bonus, but not presently to me.
