...I suppose a good way to control RPM would be to have the throttle hooked up to some sort of solenoid controlled by an amp meter, ie. the more the load demand the more the engine will output.
If it were me though I's steer clear the whole engine+alternator idea tbh, and look into solar if you could pick the panels up cheap.
Everyone is different, and living in different climates/economy's will only allow certain technology's to be used. I'm not sure what Gov. policy with agricultural diesel is and home generators in your area? if it was allowed I suppose an eco friendly Honda diesel setup could turn some good returns, maybe sourced from a scrapyard?
A good way to set up an extra power source for your home would be to use two to four HGV batteries at the correct rating, most of these batteries can sustain a load of ~800 amps for a couple of seconds(cold start) but have a running capacity of considerably less, so you'll need to do your maths to be sure not to overload them.
Be warned, fire hazard is a real threat with these systems so I can't express how important it would be to place monitoring systems and correct certified kill-switches and cut-off's to the batteries and monitor load, heat, and acid level every day.
Imo your only choice is to use a home-made system for lighting as general use power outlets and high amp stuff like showers and cookers/microwaves are too erratic in demand and would place too much load on the battery's. To segregate the lighting from the rest of the house you would need to install a seperate fuse-board beside your current one, a bit of trickery with relay's would be needed in case of a power failure in your new system but I assure you thats the easy bit.
...I'd say investing in a professionally built one would save you money in the long run
Ever seen the Planet Mechanics on the Discovery channel? , Those guy's go around building green alternatives for people using whats at hand locally, for example here.
First of all, I expect Dusten in here any minute...trolling as it may seem, but I do think he has a point.
Apple really are producing outstanding hardware, it doesn't matter weather if you are a fan of Windows or Linux the simple fact is that the hardware produced is all you should argue about.
Fcuk all the goddamn arguemants of fanboy this and fanboy that, at the end of the day it's hardware is what we rely on.
It's as plain as the egg on the countless IT managers faces; when in aprox. ~two months time the support for Apple's devices(ipod touch) mobile and airsnort(he he)will be available.
Simple fact is, everyone from kindergarden in Berlin to Fly-Lice school in Tokyo is going to be hacking AP's from their pocket.
It is a fact that reinstalling the OS is many times faster than trying to 'repair' the damage done, the time and hassle involved makes it a real chore too.
The first mistake many people make is to take the approach to learning about PC maintenance to forum, asking questions on the how-to's of PC maintenance will at best get you partial answers to the problem because explaining the problem to others is time waisted itself in the first place.
...The only thing you should be worried about is a partial connection(as the chances of a dodgy intermittant connection are near nil if you've twisted the ends of the wires round one and other). A partial connection will obviously get hot and pull extra load from the PSU not to mention the heat transferred around the board and to nearby components, and if your a real cowboy you could set fire to a CD or something.
If you think any of the connections are a bit iffy get a multi-tester and test each end of the cables in quistion in the miliohm's setting on the tester, a higer resistance than the unbroken piece of the cable will tell you straight away if the connection is not 100% and will fail under load.
The PS scores high on functionality like internal wi-fi and high deff DVD player but for me Sony's build quality let's it down hugely which was also true with the xbox at the start with the three ring thingamee's but the now it's cheap as chips and keeps on going.
Obviously Microsoft's Xbox 360 is the best choice when the PS3 weighs aprox. 20kg and the flimsey controlls that come with the console have the same sort of power cable that is bundleld with cheap electronic shite like $10 HD videocamera's.
Thinking back to when I used to watch JR Ewing making phone calls on his mobile I can't begin to fathom what the people of that time would react like if somehow by time-travel show them whats going on today with hand-help devices, it is truly amazing in every way, more so that our lives are being constantly networked in an ever easier and more affordable way.
To me the Apple ipod touch is a prime example of how through standards and inter-cooperative manufacturing we can show just how good things are going to get in the future, I suppose the same is true for all technology.
Fact is, without the Apple inc. devices being as 'closed' as they are they would not be able to bring such products in first place, as with everything in life there's a price to pay and with Apple you gotta buy only Apple and nothing else...and of course you gotta run it on Microsoft Windows too. This is not a problem for me, personally I enjoy and make very good use of both products, but like many others have become accustomed to Linux being a very important part of my daily routine, sucks balls doesn't it?
Who here has been around long enough to take a wild guess at what is going to happen with Linux and these devices, and how do you think Apple will react if and when this happens?
TBH, all I need is remote desktop running on this itouch, anyone*evilgrin*?
True, true - but anyway, personally I hold the up most respect for normal women like my GF and I don't think of or treat sluts badly IRL(covering my arse here LOL)
DevilDare. I think I'm in love with your avatar - spank you:bowdown:
