Quote from deiwisxxx :yes but if they can't do dips and holes thats alright can they just make a arena with gravel thats all just add an arena to a new pach and we will do derbyes all that kind of stuff

p.s.

I wauld like to hear somthing from developers to (leave a post here)

I'd like a dirt arena too, but as was pointed out in the first reply, it's already on the list of improvement suggestions.

Also, don't hold your breath on engaging the devs in a discussion about any suggestion. LFS is not a democracy. The devs have their list of priorities. They might look at this forum to gauge community interest in a certain feature, or they might not, for all I know. They don't look at the forum and say, "Well, now that 500 people have asked for neons and bodykits, we need to implement them."

Damn! Had I waited three years to buy S2, I could have saved $13. Maybe my S2 is better than people buying it today because I paid more for it.

If it's a street car such as the VWS, then it should have limited setups. If it's a race-prepped car then the setups should be more flexible, although realisticly so.

The current road cars in LFS haven't been clearly defined as either though. Either they're street cars with stereos, back seats, and limited setups, or they're race-prepped cars with rollcages, racing seats, and a wide variety of setup options, although what we have now is too fine-grained.

Unless some kind of incompatibility is introduced, the ABS cat's already out of the bag. Let's say Z6 and the official patch remove ABS from the XFG. Anyone who keeps Z5 around still has it.

I'm curious to see the effect of ABS on all the TBOs. I'm an XRT guy myself and it's much more more stable now under braking, which presumably will translate to speed. ABS on the FXO may not have as much effect, being FWD and front-heavy.

In very limited testing, I wasn't seeing the ABS indicator come on nearly as much in the FXO as it did in the XRT. Mabye adding ABS to all three will bring the XRT and RB4 even with the FXO now.

Now why couldn't those Finnish guys have put ABS on the '02 Raceabout?

Quote from ORION :Mmh i hope the VWS default setup will not be understeery and boring :O

If you watch the Scirocco video, you'll see that the car gets loose under braking (external cam when it pulls to a stop in the autocross), and it even lifts the inside rear wheel off the ground once. I think it'll be a decent setup.

I have the exact same problem with my real car. I keep trying to change my final drive ratio by .001 but it won't let me.

Quote from Chrisuu01 :I mean non test patch so a version wich every host wil use

Test patch Z5 works just fine on a regular Z host. Try it. There's no need for the hosts to upgrade now because ABS and new FBM wheels are handled entirely by the client.

edit: ugh, beaten badly

With the plural in the title I thought you might need to buy presents for a wife AND and a gf. I was going to wish you good luck with that one.

It really depends on the woman. My wife isn't into perfume, jewelery, etc. A few years ago I bought her an MP3 player for her to listen to while she runs - she was training for a half marathon at the time - and loaded a bunch of her CDs onto it.

Find something she likes to do and think of something to make that better/easier/more fun.

I get what you're saying, but if his % of assurdedness (sp?) is > 100, then he'd just release it rather than saying, "hey I've got this great car totally done and you guys can have it in 8 days."

Sure, we're all disappointed, but it sounds like it'll be worth the wait. To help yourself get over the let down, go get Z5 and enjoy the temporary advantage (ABS) you have over people who don't read the test patch forum.

I agree it would be nice to force ABS (and TC for that matter) off at the server level.

What I was asking for though, was that the FXO not even have the option of ABS to balance it with the XRT and RB4. I admit this is artificial balancing, but there are plenty of real world examples of that in real-life multiple make sports car series.

Having said all that, I've realized that even if ABS was taken away from the FXO, people who still wanted ABS on it could just use Z5 instead of 0.6A. So to sum it all up, nevermind.

Any chance of taking ABS away from the FXO? It might be a quick and dirty way to even up the TBOs.

Quote from Zen321 :Very true.
It feels like driving on american roads. Every time you get pulled-up for speeding (1 mile over the highway 55 mph limit yay), they ask for checking your car for marijuana if you're young. If you refuse (which is your constitutionnal right), they threat you to take you to jail and call the canine brigade which will be likely to smell anything but marijuana (they react to fuel...), and you'll have your car opened and taken to jail for no apparent reason.

Wow. I'm always 7-10 mph over the speed limit when I pass police and I've never been pulled over, searched for drugs, or thrown in jail. I guess we drive on different roads. Please let me know which ones they are so I can avoid them.

Quote from plehto :realistic slip curves for slicks, undertray downforce, downforce relative to yaw

I like realism as much as the next guy, and I'd be happy to hear that any of the above have been addressed in a patch. But TBH, I don't think I'd notice very much difference from any of them. I wouldn't say, "Alright! This finally feels exactly like a real Raceabout!"

A new car, on the other hand, is very easy to notice. Bad undertray aero notwithstanding.

When I first got my glasses I was surprized to find that trees had leaves. Until then I thought they were just giant green blobs.

I did the contacts thing for a while, but I never liked poking my finger in my eye. Plus I would lose lenses in weird places - at the beach, down the sink drain, etc.

edit: I updated the first post with more current information.

Glad you could hop on, TB. That was some good racing last night. We managed to attract a pretty decent crowd during a traditional dead time (11pm Eastern US) last night. I even recognized some Europeans from the forum on, who were up way past a reasonable bed time. Maybe we were the last stop on the way home from the pub.

Part of the reason for the crowd last night could be that we switched tier 1 to those three little words that put a smile on any LFS player's face ...

XRT RB4 FXO

We intend to keep it that way at least until the 19th. There's something happening that day, but I can't remember what exactly.

It's usually Wednesday nights that we try to get the gang together to race, but the server is up all the time. Some people are on there almost every night (Eastern US time) of the week.

It usually only takes a few races on an otherwise empty server to attract a small crowd.

I'm finding myself strangely addicted to this server.

Is wrong way spectate enabled? I was on Saturday and people were driving backwards on the oval. I thought I'd seen in this thread that wrong way driving was "discouraged", but it should enforced too. IMO at least.

Along those lines, is there a guide on what's allowed/expected? I've started playing on this server like I did in the DD games, meaning I will take someone else out to advance a position if it won't slow me down. I saw lots of people going out of their way to cause wrecks that would obviously end badly for both parties.

I know too many rules can kill the fun, but wrong way driving, ramming a stationary car, intentionally wrecking by yourself, etc don't help you win the race.

I saw a lot of "it's DD, anything goes!" comments, but is it really? Maybe I'm off base here. It wouldn't be the first time.

Thanks for that, Straightsix.

We've made a few changes in the last few days that should help keep people around longer.

- Implemented a welcome screen showing the scoring system and requirements to stay on server 1. We were seeing a lot of people do the normal "pickup server" pattern of pit, crash, pit, crash, pit, crash, pit, crash and getting booted in their first race. Now people should know not to do that (if they read the screen at least).

- Throttled the yellow flags given for a single incident down to more reasonable levels. It takes a pretty massive crash to get more than 2 yellows now.

- Added some additional stats to the racer list on the website. We now show two additional statistics. Race completion percentage and yellow flags per lap.
