Quote from bunder9999 :apparently there is a big brou-ha-ha after yesterday's women's hockey game... after the game was over and everyone left, the team took to the ice for beer and cigars... except that someone was still there and photos were taken, so now the IOC is pissed. it doesn't help that one of the women is underage by BC standards (she can drink in her home province though)...

i don't see the big deal.

I for one was deeply offended. If you're not going to pull a Brandi Chastain and remove some clothing, at least have a no-holds-barred pillow fight at center ice.

It's almost comical if watch the replay (available from the results page http://s3racingzone.com/wbc), shift U and just watch that section of wall on lap 2. Literally everyone but T-Sho hit the wall there.

If anyone has any movie making skillz it would make for a good laugh.

Awesome Family Guy reference

Hey, congrats to Havoc on his win in the LOTA GTCC last night, also at South City Long. I'd like to think his laps in the RB4 here helped with his FXR prep.

The event organizers at South City have erected (hehe) a memorial in our honor after this week's race. It seems they've been working on some experimental magnetic wall technology and forgot to turn them off in time for race 1.

The South City chamber of commerce, city council, parks and rec department, and pothole repair crew are deeply sorry for any damages the walls may have caused. They've sent some pictures of the memorial, dedicated to the people who crashed under the bridge in race 1, lap 2.

The Judge has picked up the gavel for the first time... and brought it down squarely on the head of rsr.havoc. While the Judge appreciated havoc's sportsmanly gesture of giving back the position after the incident, he has nonetheless assessed a 5 point penalty for "bad touches"

On a possibly related note, [DSR] Gil gets this week's Rusty Screw award. It looked for a while like Gil would continue his pattern from the previous week (DNF in race 1, win race 2), but it was not to be.

Wear it in good health, Gil!

The idea of PMs is to avoid heated arguments that escalate into playground brawls in chat or the forums. But maybe we'll be able to keep it civil since most of us are older and wiser.

I'll send the last lap of race 2 off to the judge and see what he says.

As for the "new guys":
1) I agree that late-arrivers can be a problem, but so far nobody new has shown up and trashed the standard of racing, IMO. You don't have people showing up for just the last half of the season in F1, for example (oops, maybe USF1), but sim racing isn't the same level of commitment as that.
2) If we only had the guys we started round 1 with, we'd have a very small field. We'd have no incidents because there would only be 5 cars on the track.
3) The incidents mentioned above concern people who've been in the series for more than a few races.

And on the Cabby/Boothy block: I watched that a few times last night and I'm not convinced that Cabby had the momentum to pass before the line. On the other hand, I would have left more room than Boothy did and let things play out.

And finally, most importantly, the US should have walked over the Swiss hockey team yesterday. I'm a little concerned that they didn't. At least this year, they may not trash their hotel rooms if/when they lose.

That tailwind in race 1 into the bridge turn sure claimed a lot of victims. It took me half of the second race to even try that turn in 5th again.

The end of race 2 looked a lot like the BTCC. Whatever the opposite of a rusty screw is, T-Sho gets it. Please PM me for protests.

Quote from The Very End :This is just stupid, before you could say negros, but due to the fact it got classified as racism you HAVE to say a colored man / a black man, at least in Norway. I allways thought saying a black man sounds wrong, but it's the politically correct way saying it over here.

This has nothing to do with racism, and I hope your boss understand what you meant too, I see nothing that is out of line.

Well, if we canot say a colored man, a black man, a negro, what can we say? I know there is other ways describing someone other than their color of their skin, but often it's easier.

And no, I am no racist or anything, I just wonder what word I can tell to people without getting them to feel offended.

Here the latest acceptable term is "African-American." I've even seen some American newscasters refer to a black man from another country (Lewis Hamilton for example) as an African-American, which clearly, he is not.

I've always wondered if there are similar terms in other countries, such as "African-Norwegian" or "Afro-Franco."

Quote from Cabby :My pb from a quick 5 laps of practice last week was a 55.2.

I hope that's a 1:55.2 or we're all screwed.

Oddly like Westhill, I'm not having to baby my tires much at this track. Could it be that I'm figuring out how to drive these barges? I'm probably just not going fast enough. I did a 10 lap run averaging 1:56s and 1:57s. Please don't tell me I'm 2 seconds of the pace. :|

Please refer to rule 51.50, section F, subsection U

Quote :
... drivers may pull off the racing line and park ONLY in the event of:
a) extreme intestinal distress
b) severe car damage, although any driver doing so must convince his national hockey team to throw their Olympic game against team USA

So you see, in either case you're fine

The Rusty Screw this week goes to Boothy for his untimely connection problems. Serves you right for trying to piggyback your connection off glenh's 56K modem.

All of this has been said before, so I hesitate to jump in...

There are a lot of frustrated people in the forum, and that's understandable. But if every LFS license holder stomps off and never plays again, that costs the devs exactly $0. I suspect even the people who are fed up and have said they "will never race again" will buy S3 if/when it comes out.

This great race sim that we'll all so passionate about is the hobby of three talented people. If you want a race sim from a large commercial development company, there are lots of other options.

Quote from GilFisher :

Thanks for letting me win guys, that's a real morale booster.

There was no letting involved. You jumped out to the lead and Cabby and I were fighting tooth and nail all race. Even once I got past him, I still wasn't gaining on you.

Quote :I think you've shown me the key to getting the balance right.

The news just keeps getting worse...

Congrats to Cabby and Gil for the wins. Somehow I had a good chance at winning race 1, but I lost focus toward the end and Cabby didn't make any mistakes. You could make a convincing argument for lots of people for the rusty screw.

Gil for getting taken out in T1 of race 1, or he might have swept both races.

Boothy for timing out right before the lag lap of race 1 and right after the start of race 2, from the lead no less.

Me for giving Gil a setup that he drove MUCH better than I did

I didn't see the replays yet to see what happened to JayBee, but his parallel parking exhibition implies that he didn't have much luck either.

I've been working on a new lemon layout, this time for FE3. Because of the nature of the track, a DT only costs you 5-6 seconds here.

I kinda like this one better than the AS2 one.

Quote from glenh :just an idea

20 lap race
optional drive thru on laps 5, 10, and 15.
each drivethru is worth 5 pts.
only the 1st drivethru on those laps are points given.

so if the first 3 guys dont go for it, the fourth place car starts to think about it. Maybe the leader goes for it on lap5, and has time to get the time back etc...
1 stop at 50% works too, but make it worth points for the gamble.

That's very similar to the pizza delivery league that LOTA ran, which was a lot of fun. You're giving me something to think about...

Good point. That's assuming pit spots match garage spots. But also I don't think we're in any danger of having a full grid.
