I haven't looked at lapper for a long time. It's grown up nicely!

I see spin detection as an option in the config file. Would it be possible to add flag detection? Just yellows would be fine although blue would be good too.

I'll try not to turn this into the improvement suggestions thread...

I agree on the ovals, Stu. One of the complaints voiced in this thread about iracing content is that it's targeted at the American market. I don't mind.

If LFS were to add more "American-ized" content (a few short ovals, maybe a stock car), I probably wouldn't even consider iracing.

Quote from Hyperactive :You forgot few things. Most of the time the LFS cafe is filled with drifters and cruisers, racers are almost a minority. Sometimes when the cafe is filled up with people, a tiny touch with other person will get you thrown out. The cafe environment is a bit dull and the chairs are mostly uncomfotable. Service is great but when's the last time you saw the chef?

And all but four of the cars in the parking lot of the LFS Cafe are imaginary. At the iracing cafe, for some reason, there are only Solstices. (or is that Solstii?)

What you don't realize is that in real life, there's a Solstice-sized Burmese tiger trap at that very spot of the grass.

Quote from Mackie The Staggie :I myself know due to lack of skill it will take me forever to get to a level in which I need the extra contet, hell maybe I would have saved up enough Iracing dollars so that it would not cost me that much.

From what I've read, it's only the safety rating that determines advancement to the next license. When you got to the next license you'd be racing (safely) against other slow guys.

Quote from Shotglass :can you establish a community on a system that makes it near impossible to race with friends?

I hear that was Montoya's biggest complaint when he switched to NASCAR - he couldn't race with his friends anymore.

I think in that case it was actually a problem with the insim port from the LFS server. Like it forgot it was open or something. I've moved to a different linux box, still using wine and I haven't had the error again.

I agree Sam, that for me also goes back to a conflict of interest in managing the servers and removing the unqualified drivers...

Of course this is speculation as well, but presumably wreckers and unqualified drivers will have very low iratings and be sent to "wrecker-only" servers rather than being booted from the sim. If you want to pay $13/month to wreck people, you can do it with like-minded individuals.

Good times.

Let me be the first to say that LFS S4 is much better than Gran Turismo 12.

Quote from paddy_racer :Hehe my good friend Sean Edwards!

If you aiming that at sean edwards he doesn't play or hold a license in lfs, NOOB

Nah, just trying to make a joke that if he was doing that in iracing, his irating would suffer, relegating him to race with other course-cutters and ne'er-do-wells. Or so we believe.

I can see I failed.

I'm interested in the new version, although I still haven't managed to break the old one yet.

Yea, but you should see his irating now... He can only race on the noob and wrecker servers.

Quote from nihil :Danowat - we are the market. It may be that you wish to take a submissive posture in relation to how you consume, but others don't.

From a submissive position, obviously it doesn't make sense.

I'm struggling with the concept of being a submissive consumer. The alternative is to be an aggressive consumer? Do I have this right?

Submissive consumer
Evaluates the pros and cons of an existing product/service to decide if it's worth the money.

Aggressive consumer
Prior to a product/service's availability gives money to those who might produce it so as to influence the final product?

I didn't know I had a choice.

Quote from Christopher Raemisch :
http://web.ukct.net/ Have a read there and you will see what I am talking about.

Agreed, CTRA has done incredible things with LFS. And the potential exists for even greater things to be done with LFS (CTRA-X2, for example).

At one time some people were calling for the STCC system (prior to CTRA-X) to be fully integrated into LFS. I would be for that, especially if I could race Legend cars at South Boston Speedway and Spec Racer Fords at Mid-Ohio under that system. It appears that I need to buy a different sim to do that though.

Quote from danowat :It's (iracing) is certainly not for everyone, that is obvious

Indeed, it's like they're intentionally alienating the entire cruising community, the entire drifting community, and the entire wrecker community. How dare they make a racing sim without those people in mind?

That's not to say if you don't buy iracing you're in one of the above-mentioned groups. I don't know if I'll buy it. I'm going to wait for some reviews before I decide.

I did run into some errors tonight. Somehow insim got turned off in my LFS dedi, which of course brought down your app. I was able to restart it, and it worked for a while, then it started dying with this error...

LFS Admin & Race Rotator V1.0.4.3
Connecting to InSim....
Connected

Not sure if that's the restart bug you mentioned above or not. I tried to re-initialize insim on the dedi and restart the app, but the same thing happened again.

Quote from Crashgate3 :Carmageddon 2 was rubbish :P

EDIT: So was 3.

I have to agree. C1 was very promising. C2 added bells and whistles like polygonal pedestrians who tried to limp away if you just hit them with a glancing blow. But the driving feel (although I hesitate to praise its physics) of the original was lost. I never tried C3.

I've been using 1.0.4.2 and then 1.0.4.3 for a few weeks now and I haven't noticed any issues with restarts. I'm running it on Ubuntu using mono.

It all works as advertised for me.

My 4 year-old drives occasionally, but he doesn't seem to get the "steer left, go left" etc idea yet. Either that or he just wants to crash.

Given his personality, I'm leaning toward the latter.

Kind of OT: A racing game he really likes is Racing Pitch - http://secretexit.com/games/racingpitch

Quote from alland44 :WHY ??
Really WHY !

EDIT :
Americans just close their nostrals, and sing through their butts
Australian is the finest form of the english language, but swallow your cockney accent and send it through your ass - Then you are in bussiness

Ironically, there are Americans who try to sound British when they sing. Green Day comes to mind.

Regarding the song... great job on the lyrics!

Quote from Gekkibi :What if devs would remove autoclutch from all cars except XRR, FXR and one-seaters?

No, this was no rant. Clutch can be assigned as button, and usually wheels have several buttons that can be used... After all, blip was removed to make LFS more realistic. Next step would be to remove auto-clutch.

Agreed, that's not a rant, it's an interesting point. At that point I'd probably wimp out and set up upshift and downshift macros in my DFP software.

Of course at some point, realism gets ridiculous, i.e. when you click to go from South City to Kyoto, you can't race for another week.

I guess everyone has their own realism threshold.

I promise not to be hostile...

I don't have a clutch pedal either. It didn't take very long to get used to lifting off the throttle between shifts. In fact, I avoid driving the XRR and FXR now because you can (should) flatshift those, but I just can't force myself to anymore.

Give it try and I'm sure you'll find it's not that hard to adjust.

I also couldn't get this working under mono (Kubuntu), but there is a new restriction app that does...

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=749427#post749427

It also does some other things, like track rotation.
